24.01.2022 Weight Training Myths A common strength training myth that women are led to believe is the use of weights during any form of physical activity will cause them to build bulky, manly muscles. Women who refuse to weight train are typically worried about looking too masculine and developing overly defined muscles on their bodies. The truth is, between the oestrogen levels in women and the absence of testosterone in their bodies, it is highly unlikely that any woman will ever build muscles like men do unless they considering a profession in body building. When women strength train, their bodies ultimately become leaner and more sculpted.

20.01.2022 Posted @withregram @thefitnesschef_ The point of consuming food is to remain alive. The point of controlling our intake of food is to manage our physique and overall health. The point of consuming fewer calories is to reduce body fat across our composition. But one constant in all of the above should be our enjoyment of the food we eat. When an individual embarks on fat loss, each of the above are important. One must enjoy their energy consumption, be aware of energy... intake in relation to their energy output, and consistently ensure that they are in a state of caloric deficit. To ensure progress, one may have to change and adjust their dietary habits. But instead of completely radicalising the diet, adherence to change may be more likely if one makes subtle changes over time. For example: consuming the same volume of lower calorie foods and drinks that replicate higher the calorie versions in experience. This graphic shows two groups of foods/drinks. One group contains more calories than the other, yet quantities remain the same (apart from the Freddo & bagel thin). Crucially, the lower calorie versions resemble similar, or the same palatable offerings as their higher calorie counterparts. Whilst consumption of lower calorie versions may not be immediately significant, they can be over a period of time. For example, if one swapped daily consumption of Greek yogurt for 0% fat greek yogurt, over the course of a year, they would consume 56,210 fewer calories. And their yogurt experience would be minimally compromised. We must make such choices with the knowledge that lower calorie items may contain less of a particular macronutrient. And in the case of low calorie beverages, awareness that sweeteners are included. Losing fat is not straightforward. It requires behaviour change. 13.01.2022 Posted @withregram @thefitnesschef_ You do not need to accurately measure your calorie intake to lose fat as much as you don’t need to accurately save enough money for a holiday. But if fat loss and significant holiday savings occur without conscious awareness, they do so by accident. If one does want to accurately track, doing so via heaped spoonfuls, knives and unknown handfuls of food may not be wise. Much like saving numerous 5p coins instead of numerous 1 coins w...ouldn’t be wise practice to save for the holiday. Many regard measuring food as excessive or obsessive. But would the same individuals place the same stigma on an individual who accurately saved enough money for their holiday. Because winding up 750 short on the eve of a holiday isn’t much fun. And neither is the perpetual, everlasting struggle to lose fat. Accurate measurement of anything takes one closer to reality. In the realms of fat loss, a negative energy balance is the sole means by which fat loss occurs. Therefore it makes sense to categorically know that this energy balance is being achieved. To eyeball food and estimate calories is only applicable to those trained in calorie counting. To those with vast experience and understanding of caloric density within the range of foods they eat. If enough knowledge is attained, it can become automatic. But only then. For the untrained individual seeking fat loss, it may be short sighted to forego accurate tracking of their calorie intake. Obstinate refusal to measure accurate quantities of food may disarm their ability to portion accurate quantities of food that support their goal. The accuracy of the energy balance required for change may therefore be compromised. If fat loss is the goal, unmeasured quantities of food can be consumed if desired. But it may be a good idea to invest in temporarily educating oneself on portion size in order to permanently adhere to caloric requirements over time. Such basic education can allow one to adjust and stay on track. See more
