However, your metabolism may stay elevated for longer after weight training than cardio and can increase calories burned throughout the day. Weight lifting is better for building muscle and maintaining stronger healthier bones. While it's true that doing steady state cardio probably will help with ...weight loss, experts say it's totally unnecessary if your main goal is fat loss. In fact, you can lose weight, just by lifting weights. If you have an overload of cardio in your routine and you're not fueling your body, then the body may turn to break down muscle tissue during your sessions. With less muscle on your body, your resting metabolism will drop. This refers to the number of calories your body burns when resting. Therefore it may increase fat to store if calorie intake isn't adjusted or increasing more calories burned in order to continue moving forward with fat loss. Despite how much we want to stay lean, lose those last 5 kilos, or 'work off the weekend' to much cardio can lead to injury, stress on joints and failure to meet muscle building goals.
