24.01.2022 The germans made a gas attack late last night, we felt the effects of the weeping gas but very slightly. #AnzacLive

21.01.2022 One hundred years ago, the greatest tactical success of the entire Gallipoli venture took place - the final evacuation from Anzac Cove of thousands of soldiers, right under the noses of the Turks. These are the last days at Anzac, in the words of our beloved Archie Barwick. #AnzacLive

20.01.2022 I went for a walk with a couple of mates into the upper part of the wood today and had a look through the trench defences of it

19.01.2022 Dear Mother, very pleased to receive your letter ... well no doubt you have seen the casualty lists and seen that our lot have been in action, well once again I got through alright and probably it will be some time before we are in action again. Our unit suffered more than any other Fld Amb, we lost 3 killed and 16 wounded which is an extremely high percentage considering that we had only about 75 men in the field ...

14.01.2022 The weather is extremely cold and today it has been snowing slightly. We are in old buildings of any description. I was in an old loft for a week and it was awfully cold, I was not sorry when we made a move, our present billet is much better, it is in an old school but it is pretty warm and dry, although the windows are all out owing to shell fire. #AnzacLive

14.01.2022 We had a spray of the good old wattle given to us last night ... and it was good to see a little of old Aust. once again, although it was only a spray of the golden blossom. #AnzacLive

14.01.2022 We have a cat, and had a hedgehog here for about a week until he ran off, we called the cat Anzac and the hedgehog Achi Baba, he was an extremely comical customer, if you brushed his spikes backwards he would unroll himself and scoot off into some dark corner and roll up into a ball again. One night we put him into one of the Corporals beds, I guess he got some shock when he put his foot on old Achi Babas prickly back. #AnzacLive

12.01.2022 A mail arrived today, received letters from Mother, Stan, Eva and Ciss.

12.01.2022 We only lasted 3 days out in the vicinity of the fighting , it was a veritable hell and shambles. We would not have lasted a day at Anzac against artillery such as we are facing over here.

10.01.2022 The scenery in this country is beautiful. We passed through Amiens and Versailles and stopped for tea at Abbeville, after leaving there the country is very marshy and evidence of the war became more and more pronounced... #AnzacLive

09.01.2022 Four enemy planes flew over at a great height about midday, they are the first enemy planes we have seen up since arriving here

08.01.2022 We washed out our hut this morning and gave it a good cleaning out. #AnzacLive

08.01.2022 Well today is a beautiful day, the finest that we have had since arriving here. We were paid a little while ago and tonight we will be able to celebrate the first anniversary of Anzac Day by having a decent feed for once, our rations are terribly cut down to what we have been used to... #AnzacLive

08.01.2022 Struck camp this morning, the tent section and transport moved off and left us behind ... we shifted across the road and fixed up bivouacs for ourselves in an orchard.

06.01.2022 H.R.H. The Prince of Wales paid us a visit and inspected the camp this morning, he rode through the camp amongst the men who gave him a fine reception. #AnzacLive

04.01.2022 A biplane made a beautiful spiral dive from the clouds and came down almost to earth between our hospital and the ruined town of Levant. #AnzacLive

02.01.2022 I started work in the hospital and before the day was out, I was a patient in it. I was bringing down the dinner and almost got to the foot of the stairs when the ship gave a rather violent lurch and I slipped down the remaining couple of steps, getting the contents of a bucket of stew, or to be more correct soup with meat in it, all over my face and right arm, my mates put olive oil all over my face and put me to bed. #AnzacLive

01.01.2022 I spent the morning putting up shelves in the transport cookhouse. #AnzacLive
