23.01.2022 Today marks the 79th Anniversary of the Battle of Crete. A battle that changed the course of World War 2. Today, we stop and reflect on what the Cretan people endured in 1941 against all odds. We remember villages like Kontomari, Kantanos, Viannos, Anogia and many more that were burnt to the ground. Furthermore we pay tribute to the ANZACS that served many of whom paid the price and did not return home. They lie on Cretan soil.... One of those ANZAC veterans that served with distinction is 101 year old Arthur Leggett who resides in Perth, Western Australia. Arthur was kind enough to share his story with us. So we pay a special tribute to all those that didn't return home with part 1 and part 2 of Arthur's video. Lest we forget.

05.01.2022 Today the Shrine Guard will lay a wreath at the Stone of Remembrance in honour of the Battle of Crete and Greece, the American Ex-Servicemen Association and the... RAN Recruits. The Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand (@cretansofaustralianz) hold an annual service in remembrance of the men and women from Australia and Greece who fought and fell in the Battle of Crete in May 1941. The American Ex-Servicemen Association hold their annual service on the Sunday closest to Memorial Day (an American Holiday) to remember all those who have died in military service. The Association promotes the welfare of American ex-servicemen and women in Australia. Each month the current RAN Recruits make a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Remembrance to honour the contributions of past sailors and to link these recruits with the long history of service and sacrifice in the Royal Australian Navy. The Shrine is a living monument, a building with a soul. Throughout our closure period, we will continue to honour the service and sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of Victorians with a live-streamed wreath laying on the days when services would have taken place.
