25.01.2022 Planning is well under way for the Remembrance Day Commemoration ceremony on Sunday 11 November. Flag presentation occurred last Monday where new flags were presented to Tony Galpin, Secretary of the Rotary Club of Flagstaff Hill by Nicole Flint MP and Steve Murray MP.

25.01.2022 It's recently come to my attention that some parents although they would like to attend a dawn service, wont because of the likelihood that their little ones ma...y make noise or fidget during the minutes silence and cause embarrassment or offend someone. Let me tell you as a returned service veteran of 2 tours of Afghanistan, that when I close my eyes during that minutes silence it's the cries of the little ones in the crowd that make it so special to me. It's the reason why myself and so many of my fellow veterans & ultimately our fallen heroes gave their time, service & lives for. Their families. Their countrymen. To not hear the babies/children's voices and cries and the tutts from their mothers and fathers during this special occasion would not be, and never has been an offence to myself or anyone I know. How will we Remember Them if the little ones aren't there to carry the memory? So, this ANZAC Day please bring your little ones. Bring them that they may see the men & woman with their fathers, mothers, uncles, aunties, brothers, sisters and even their own medals worn proudly on their chests. So that they hear the stories told of long ago battles & heroic deeds. So that they will remember and carry on their stories to their own children's children.

21.01.2022 Joshua Dyer (aged 14) was tasked at school to write a poem for Remembrance Day. An hour later (without any help) he produced this. One Thousand Men Are Walking ...One thousand men are walking Walking side by side Singing songs from home The spirit as their guide they walk toward the light milord they walk towards the sun they smoke and laugh and smile together no foes to outrun these men live on forever in the hearts of those they saved a nation truly grateful for the path of peace they paved they march as friends and comrades but they do not march for war step closer to salvation a tranquil steady corps the meadows lit with golden beams a beacon for the brave the emerald grass untrampled a reward for what they gave they dream of those they left behind and know they dream of them forever in those poppy fields there walks one thousand men Joshua Dyer 2019 (aged 14) Goes to show that the young can still surprise us. Lest we forget

02.01.2022 Lest we forget Today is Remembrance Day and at 11am we will have one-minute silence to remember those who died or suffered for Australia's cause in all wars... and armed conflicts. In case you didn't know, at 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted allied terms that amounted to unconditional surrender. On the first anniversary of the armistice in 1919 two minutes' silence was instituted as part of the main commemorative ceremony at the new Cenotaph in London. The silence was proposed by Australian journalist Edward Honey, who was working in Fleet Street. In 1997, Governor-General Sir William Deane issued a proclamation formally declaring 11 November to be Remembrance Day, urging all Australians to observe one minutes silence at 11am : Annette Green via Australian Silo Art Trail Devenish, Victoria
