16.01.2022 Today, my friends and I are very proud to announce the launch our awareness campaign called #removethebarrier People with disabilities spend their whole lives ...overcoming barriers, but there’s one that is tough to get past without everyone’s help and that’s getting a job. That’s why the Dylan Alcott Foundation has launched Remove the barrier, to raise awareness of high rates of unemployment among people with disability and encourage all Australians to remove the visible and invisible barriers that prevent people with disability finding work. People with disability have high productivity rates, lower absenteeism than able bodied people and higher retention rates, yet only 54% of the 4.5 million people with disability have a job in this country. Let’s try and change that together. We want people to share this campaign online, at work and on your socials using the hashtag #removethebarrier and show your support but also tell the world of positive stories of people with disability kicking arse in the workplace (pardon the pun ) This is just the start. Please share the video! xx See more

13.01.2022 In line with recent Federal and State announcements, banks will remain open as an essential service for the community. We do ask however that you avoid visiting... a branch or phoning our contact centre unless you really need to. Right now we are prioritising customers experiencing hardship who require access to our recently announced support measures. For more information on how we can help business and home loan customers during this challenging time visit anz.com/covid-19. If your enquiry relates to account balances, transaction details, making a payment, cards and pin numbers, please use internet banking or the ANZ App. We are increasing our resources to help with the high call volumes, and appreciate your patience in the meantime. We know this is a challenging and distressing time for many people. We’re here to help and will get to you.
11.01.2022 Thoughts, prayers and love to all the brave firefighters, volunteers, locals and animals as we brace for our 'worst day' Hot temperatures, strong winds and d...ry thunderstorms will combine in Tasmania today to create what is expected to be the worst day of the fire season. Tasmania's fire agencies are bracing for the worst, with 28 out-of-control fires still burning and 77 fires in total across the State. The Tasmania Fire Serivce (TFS) is warning about of the possibility of embers sparking new fires up to 20 kilometres ahead of existing blazes. The West Coast is now (as at 8am this morning) under severe fire threat. Zeehan and Renison Bell facing emergency situations, joining Central Highlands. TFS says: "You need to start taking action now to survive. The SAFEST thing to do is go to a safer location now well before the fire hits." Strong, gusty and hot north to north-westerly winds are expected to develop this morning, with gusts up to 90 kilometres an hour in the afternoon and temperatures to hit 37 degrees. Severe fire danger is predicted for the Midlands, South-East, Upper Derwent Valley and East Coast, with very high fire dangers across much of the remainder of the state. There is also the risk of new blazes sparking due to dry thunderstorms. For current 'alert list' fire information click below: http://www.fire.tas.gov.au/Show?pageId=colCurrentBushfires

07.01.2022 Registrations for the City of Launceston’s 2019 hard waste collection campaign open tomorrow. The City of Launceston's annual hard waste collection service prov...ides an opportunity for Launceston residents to reuse, recycle and dispose of larger items that would not normally fit in the weekly kerbside collection bin. Whether it's an old desk, couch, fridge or hat stand, the annual hard waste collection is a fantastic chance for Launceston residents to get rid of those unwanted larger items cluttering up the house. In 2018 there were 1000 registrations for the City of Launceston's hard waste collection service. More than 82 tonnes of hard waste were collected, with more than 60 per cent of the collected material either resold or recycled. Make a positive impact with your waste disposal this year, and sign up for Council to collect your large hard waste items to be recycled and avoid landfill. Registrations for 2019 are $10 per household, with sign up available from tomorrow, Friday, February 1, online, over the phone or in person with the Council's Customer Service at the Town Hall. To register, visit: https://www.launceston.tas.gov.au/Natu/Kerbside-Collection

01.01.2022 A new recycling hub has been installed at the City of Launceston's Customer Service Centre at Town Hall. The recycling hub offers the public an easy and free o...ption for upcycling and recycling items like batteries, CDs and DVDs, printer cartridges, small e-waste items like digital cameras and mobile phones, plastic terracycle packaging like toothpaste tubes, unwanted medical x-rays, plastic bread tags, aluminium coffee pods and even eyeglasses. Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said the installation of the hub meant some more problematic recycling items could be easily dropped off in a central location. "Some of the items we can recycle through the recycling hub can't be recycled in our kerbside recycling service, so this is a great option for those items," Mayor van Zetten said. "We estimate as much as 2000kg of recyclable materials per year could be collected through this hub. "The hub also includes information about recycling in Northern Tasmania, so it's also a great opportunity to educate people." City of Launceston Waste and Environment Officer Michael Attard said the recycling hub was a joint project between the City of Launceston and the Northern Tasmania Waste Management Group. "The materials collected through this hub will be processed at the Launceston Waste Centre's recycling centre, with assistance from organisations like Mobile Muster and Planet Ark. "We hope it will be an easy and convenient location for people to recycle some more difficult recycling items. If you're not sure where an item can be recycled, check out our A to Z Recycling Guide: https://www.launceston.tas.gov.au//2019-a-z-recycling-guid
