17.01.2022 NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK 2020 NTPFES FORENSIC SCIENCE BRANCH Did you know this week is National Science Week? From 15 to 23 August 2020, National Science Week is an annual celebration of all things science and technology in Australia. We thought this week would be a great time to show you the science behind policing in the Northern Territory. The Forensic Science Branch (FSB) is a branch of the NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services (NTPFES) which provides scientific and techn...ical support and advice to the NT Police, other government agencies, and to private organisations by arrangement. The role of the FSB is to deliver a nationally accredited specialist forensic science service to all levels of the judicial system. The FSB is under the management of a civilian director and a Senior Sergeant as Officer in Charge (OIC). It is comprised of six Darwin based units along with regional crime scene units in Alice Springs and Katherine. Sworn police, auxiliaries, scientists, administration, and quality assurance staff make up the units in the FSB. The units include Crime Scene Examination Units (CSEU) and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) along with the Fingerprint, Firearm, Exhibit Liaison, Forensic Chemistry, and Forensic Biology Units. They undertake specialist forensic roles to effectively respond to the crime environment and towards keeping the community safe. Throughout this week, we’ll give you a brief insight into each of the units. Stay tuned! #ntpfes #scienceweek #forensicscience

17.01.2022 Working in 12-hour shifts seven days a week, they made sure the bodies of the thousands of COVID-19 victims were handled safely and with dignity. Because of the severity of the pandemic, responders were challenged with handling, at times, hundreds of bodies each day. A forensic science professor reflects on weeks spent on a COVID-19 disaster mortuary response team in New York. https://www.forensicmag.com/565496-Forensic-Science-Profes/

She was a good friend of ANZFSS NT Branch and travelled to Darwin and presented to our membership, which was an epic effort! R.I.P https://news.aafs.org/aaf/in-memoriam-carol-e-henderson-jd/
