25.01.2022 Gummy Smile Transformation! This lovely patient came in during COVID looking to improve her gummy smile. We used clear aligners to intrude her upper anterior 6, monitored remotely with Dental Monitoring all the way through her treatment (and lock down!). Once intruded we performed a gum lift, using our Virtual Interdisciplinary Smile Simulator (VISS) tool to help plan. Finished up with some whitening and minor composite bonding on her laterals and canines to balance her smi...le. A beautiful, natural result! 24.01.2022 From the AORTA Case Archives This is about an 8 year old case. This patient presented with a gummy smile and gaps between her teeth. She wasn't concerned with her 25-26 crossbite, however she was very unhappy with her gummy smile and anterior diastemas. Doing restorative solutions to resolve these issues weren't aesthetic options, however with 6 months' worth of aligners we closed those gaps and reduced her gummy smile. The finishing touches were whitening and replacing ...class 4 composite on the 11. Patient then wanted to know what options were available regarding improving the shape of her laterals, which had become more noticeable to her from the aligner software. She had developed that emotional connection to enhancing her smile. We then decided to provide four porcelain veneers. Case completed in 6 months: 20 Aligners, whitening & 4 veneers. 24.01.2022 Nothing better than reigniting a patient's confidence in their smile! This patient presented with a smile cant and anterior crossbite with 49 degrees of rotation on the 12 and 4.5mm of extrusion on the 13. As such, these teeth were classified to be in the complex (red) zone under AORTAs SAC (Simple, Advanced, Complex) Protocol. However, with a highly motivated and compliant patient, this case was completed in 16 Months - 49 Aligners with 1 Refinement (15 Aligners). See below ...in the comments for the software! 22.01.2022 Case of the Week! This patient presents wanting an alternative to fixed braces. She had always hated her smile, but was told by one orthodontist that jaw surgery was the only avenue to correct her posterior cross bite; or that only veneers would do, by another. On evaluating the third party orthodontics software we decide to leave the 26/36 cross bite as is. The objective was to broaden arches to reduce buccal corridors through uppers 15 to 25; follow the lower lip line ...and ensure smile line as parallel with the interpupillary line. The patient was then advised that the incisal edges with the butterfly effect of the 11/21 would need either composite augmentation and/or porcelain augmentation and in chair whitening. After 18 months of aligners with one refinement, this was the result with anterior composite augmentation on 12/11/21/22. See more

14.01.2022 An inverted smile and asymmetrical buccal corridor correction! Our patient presents wanting to enhance his smile. He had fixed orthodontics as a child where tooth 31 was extracted. He has an inverted smile line and buccal corridor that is wider on his right side, with the maxilla vertical fifths wider on his left side. Our objective is to not only align his smile, but to use the clear aligner software to broaden his arches non parabolically; with the ultimate goal of balancing the asymmetrical buccal corridors and ensure his smile line is parallel with inter-pupillary line. 13.01.2022 Continuing with our theme of missing laterals! This patient wanted to replace his cobalt chrome removable denture, after several sporting incidents. Having discussed all his permanent options, he wished to pursue an ideal aesthetic result, but with minimal restorative treatment on his existing teeth. After a Bolton analysis of his smile it was determined that the width of 12/22 was asymmetrical and wider than his maxillary central incisor ratio.... Therefore an ortho software simulation was conducted to re-establish the proportions and provide an interim restorative solution for the missing 12/22. After 12 months of aligners, implants were placed and a gingivectomy on the 12 / 22 was completed with laser. See more

13.01.2022 This patient presents with severe crowding on the left hand side of his upper and lower jaw with buccal erupting 23. After assessing the ortho software and using the Aorta SAC protocol analysis and principle of path of least resistance approach, it was determined to extract the 25 and 35 to reduce posterior teeth mesialisation. Class 2 elastics were used from 23 to 36 with precision cuts. 20 months later with one refinement, this was the result. See the side-view clincheck in the comments!

11.01.2022 11 Years ago to the day, Dr John received his very first iTero scanner, which was also the first scanner in Australia! Incredible how far the new models have come. Before using an intraoral scanner, Dr John recalls doing 50 cases. Shortly after the introduction of the iTero scanner in 2010, this number quickly catapulted to 150 and even recently celebrated 3000 completed Invisalign cases over his career. Since gaining access to this incredible technology, Dr John hasn't lo...oked back and it continues to be a cornerstone of his workflow. Long gone are the days of PVS impressions! 02.01.2022 A case from the archives! Buccally erupting canines can often be difficult to align when there is also multi plane rotations, root angulation issues and crowding. This is an old case, circa 2013, where we managed it as a non-extraction case by utilising: Aorta SAC (Simple, Advanced, Complex) protocol to correct crowding, careful software planning, ‘path of least resistance’ protocols, use of IPR, arch expansion, and vertical correction by ensuring maximum relative extrusion ...to avoid the more difficult absolute extrusion. The finished result was achieved in 25 months.
