18.01.2022 Being out in the Australian bush, experiencing it's beauty, sights, sounds and smell is something I think is lost to a lot of city dwelling Australians these days... Sure, they might go to a place, a location that is surrounded by bush, but few actually venture INTO it... and it's a pity. They won't see and experience it the way a hunter or an in tune bushwalker does... and they won't have noticed the difference time and these pests have had on it. I first started walking aro...und in the bush with my father at around 3, started hunting by myself at 9. Getting close to 40 years ago now... I can remember the cacophony of noise daybreak would bring as the native birds would come to life for the day. The sheer volume of it was astounding. And yes, my memory is maybe a little exaggerated by my age then... but not that much. Today there is, well... less. Back then you couldn't have picked out an individual bird amongst the background chorus, save for maybe an especially loud or close kookaburra. Now, you can almost pinpoint where each bird is because of these noxious pests, the introduced European Fox... and cats, both wandering domestics and feral. As a hunter with an open to the public social media account you expect the antis to comment. Best of luck to them. Go your hardest. Opinions are like assholes and everybody has one. But fox and cat hunting pics seem to draw the most ire. Because they have no idea the damage these things are doing to our country and it's native species. Natives, birds both nesting and ground dwelling, small marsupials and small mammals are dying by the MILLIONS each night. Australia's feral cat population is estimated at above 18 million now and over 8 million foxes. So if you're an international viewer that's bothered to read this and was ignorant of the situation in OUR bush hopefully you'll educate yourself a little before you comment. If you're a dyed in the wool anti, this post was pointless because you'll spew your vitriolic rants and threats anyway. 05.01.2022 A nice video of our Apex Fox Whistle in use by @alpine_deer_hunter. Volume up to hear the Apex in all its glory. 'After not being able to catch up with the pigs and not seeing any deer I decided to whistle some foxes on the walk home. Tried my hand at self-filming again and managed this snippet before the camera battery died. Mental note.... I had whistled this fox 5 minutes earlier around the other side of the hill however he came in from near downwind and caught a whiff of me... however didn't flat out bolt, just turning and trotting away. I thought if I came over the top of the hill and got the wind right, the @apexfoxwhistles might prove too tempting again. I let rip and after the second series in he came. He propped about 40m out after I finished on the Apex, so a few mouth squeaks and in he came. Whacked at 6m. Arrow ended up on the right side of frame after exiting and hitting a buried rock.
