24.01.2022 We have had some questions as to whether or not veterinary businesses are likely to be allowed to be open if there is a lockdown. Looking at Europe the answer is yes - clinics over there are allowed to work. Remember this is a good time to be getting some sort of telemedicine going as well for those clients not wanting to risk coming in or to reduce the risk to your team seeing too many clients face to face.
24.01.2022 Are vets going to be declared an essential service? We have just had notification from one of our clients on the NSW board. The comment was: The AVA has done a submission for vets to be declared as an essential service. He would be surprised if vets were not declared as an essential service. Vets are currently declared as essential in Spain, Italy and Belgium.
24.01.2022 What type of leave in Australia if staff need 14 days self isolation? many of you will need to be processing leave for staff members that have travelled so we have checked with Employsure. We have been told that you should process it as sick leave, once that is used up then annual leave. If there is no leave left then either pay them if you want to or it's unpaid leave.

12.01.2022 Important change to your Wage Reports: We have updated wages reporting in Profitdiagnostix and many of our other benchmarking processes. This category will now INCLUDE superannuation based on popular request. This means that you get a true reflection of what you spend on staffing, but also means that it will jump to 10% higher than what you are used to seeing! This brings the 'average' wages to around 44% as a percentage of revenue as the national KPI. Previously we reported wages as being just over 40% of revenue exclusive of superannuation. This will also now allow more accurate comparison of the cost of staff resourcing globally as Australia has one of the highest compulsory superannuation contribution requirements.
12.01.2022 For those needing to get their team members to agree to reduced hours this is a link to a fairwork document for this https://www.fairwork.gov.au//Full-time-hours-of-work-agree and for part timers and a different one for part timers https://www.fairwork.gov.au//Part-time-hours-of-work-agree
11.01.2022 JobKeeper Payment update: They are busy making all the rules, but note the most important one is that they can change, cancel or amend this payment at any time! Employees currently being paid paternity leave in the fortnight that JobKeepers is available to the business do not get JobKeepers. You apply before the end of a fortnight where you will be eligible eg. 30% decrease in revenue from last year same period. JobKeepers first fortnight ended 12 April (but you only need to ...apply by 24 April for that one). You only apply once you are eligible and then dont need to reapply, however they are just finalising what information they will want from you monthly once you have applied - this is an ongoing obligation once you get JobKeepers until it is finished (end of September) You will be able to apply online from 20 April via your business portal using MyGovID - so make sure this is working for you in case you need it. You need confirmation from your employee that you can claim JobKeepers for them so they need to complete the nomination form https://www.ato.gov.au//d1aab7f2-fbe8-44b8-9ec1-4885ded108 See more

09.01.2022 Reminder regarding JobKeepers (particularly Melbourne). Some of you are concerned about decreased work with the current regulations in Victoria. In order to qualify for JobKeepers (until end of September) your monthly revenue needs to be 30% lower than the same month last year (or reasonably projected to be). As many of you have had a good August to date and are now looking at reducing procedures you may find that you don't actually qualify for August, but only qualify in September. Important to note if you do qualify for Jobkeepers in either August or September you still have to qualify again for October onwards. In order to qualify after September your actual July to Sept 2020 revenue must be 30% lower than the same period 2019.
09.01.2022 As the Corona crisis continues, we are being exposed to some good ideas which we will continue to share with the veterinary profession. A few days ago we were concerned that when our bookkeepers work from home, their personal internet may go down due to high demand, so we gave them business mobiles with a business 4G plan Today one of our customers had the same concern and decided to upgrade his business plan, there is already a 3 week waiting list. So if there are any veterinary clinics out there running on basic internet plans, we would advise that you upgrade before the demand gets any higher and use business plans not personal plans.
09.01.2022 For those of you who want to learn about the government support packages and Australian veterinary environment during the covid-19 epidemic, here is a podcast we recorded with 'The Vet Vault'. 06.01.2022 So for those of you trying to avoid the news, one good thing is some more money for businesses with the latest stimulus package. You will get 100% of PAYGW credited back from March to June up to $100,000 and a minimum of $20,000.

05.01.2022 As of today our facebook will no longer be updated. Our website www.aplaccountants.com.au is kept up to date. Please view our website for monthly newsletters and any new information. We have taken this decision based on Facebook banning with no notice the sharing of news from media companies in Australia, but also removed posts from the Bureau of Meteorology, state health departments, fire and rescue services, charities, and crisis services such as Suicide Prevention Australia, 1800Respect and Break the Silence Against Domestic Violence. This also effected a number of animal rescue organisations relying on Facebook to find foster homes for animals in pounds with only days left before euthanasia. On these grounds we cannot ethically support Facebook regardless of pages subsequently being unblocked because damage has already been done.
05.01.2022 This is part 2 of the podcast on valuations where Anne and Paolo discuss valuations with Joanna Oakey. If you missed part 1 we posted it on facebook in February. https://www.aspectlegal.com.au/valuations-and-ma-in-the-ve/
04.01.2022 Job Keeper extension on deadline: ATO has announced an extension to enrol into JobKeepers for April to 31 May (from 30 April), and the payments only need to be paid by 8 May not the original end of April deadline. The rules for the alternate tests have also been released with more updates still to follow (hence the extension)
