25.01.2022 So here is the news we have all been dreading but also expecting: parkrun is cancelled Australia wide until at least the end of March. We will bring you updates as we receive them Please share this post with your social network ... Deb

25.01.2022 Just a reminder that its going to be super hot tomorrow so please give some consideration to the safety of your 4 legged run buddies. They can become dangerously overheated very quickly in this weather. Molly the Flea will be taking it easy with a nice leisurely stroll and maybe a cooling dip in the river along the way. There are several bubblers along the course that also provide a doggy drinking bowl so make use of them. Protect your pals, and keep yourself safe in this ri...diculously hot weather #loveparkrun #dontforgetyourbarcode

22.01.2022 We are now confirming that all parkrun events across the world will be suspended throughout the month of May. Read our latest weekly update http://parkrun.me/...sf574 #loveparkrun

21.01.2022 The latest update from head office. Please understand that in relation to restarting, we are governed by the decisions made by parkrun Australia. Also be mindful that parkrun Australia has duty of care to consider, and unlike football stadiums, pubs, restaurants and other similar businesses, parkrun events are not able to restrict the number of participants or enforce social distancing.... It’s been great to see many of our Aplins Weir community still getting out on Saturday mornings running and walking our beautiful course. Stay safe and connected everyone. Deb Co Event Director

20.01.2022 How beautiful is this weather? Some might say absolutely perfect for outdoor actives, and our sources tell us that many of our parkrun families, their barkrunners, and indeed a number of our RDs have been out and about running, walking, hiking and cycling (none of the barkrunners have been seen cycling). Our sources also tell us that something quite remarkable happened this morning that we felt we just had to share:... Under 18 Riverway parkrunner and Kirwan High student, Deklen Emonson, went out to the dam this morning and did a solo 5km in 16 minutes 13 seconds!! If my pace calculator is correct thats a cracking average pace of 3:15 /km. Congratulations Deklen thats a fantastic effort, and we hope youll come and have a tilt at the Aplins Weir course when things get back to normal! So what have you been up to whilst we have been on hiatus? We would love to hear from you all, and see photos!!! We are missing all your lovely faces so post in the comments below. Stay safe everyone

20.01.2022 We have been advised by parkrun Australia that our event along with all others Australia wide are suspended until at least the end of April. This announcement is not unexpected under the circumstances. We hope everyone is doing ok and we will keep you updated as we receive advice from Head Office.... Stay safe everyone and stay connected. There are tough times ahead so lets support each other as much as we can. Deb

19.01.2022 Molly the Flea was early morning course marking and met up with her Valentine Truff the Enforcer. Truff was out for a quick run before taking up his position at the scanning table: No barcode No time No exceptions says Truff

16.01.2022 We know many of you are seriously missing Saturday mornings at Aplins Weir: Molly the Flea sure is, shes been running around in her purple volunteer bandana all morning. And today would have been a very special event. Firstly because its ANZAC Day, remembering those who lost their lives in service of our country, and paying respects to all who served and continue to serve.... Today we would have also celebrate the second anniversary of Aplins Weir parkrun! And while it is sad that we couldnt get together for this milestone we need to remember that this situation wont last forever. We will be back and we will celebrate In the meantime lets remember the sacrifice of our soldiers and the good times weve had in the past. #lestweforget #loveparkrun #happy2ndbirthday

08.01.2022 Celebrating International Womens Day

07.01.2022 On a sunny Saturday morning in early February, local runner Tony Gordon joined us at Aplins Weir to attempt a 5km PB. After nailing his fastest 5km, Tony excitedly told us that he was training for an upcoming marathon in Japan, and that he was feeling confident due to the effort he and his coach had put into his training program. Not long after, Asia was hit hard by Covid-19 and Tonys event was cancelled just before he was due to fly out. He then set his sights on the Canber...ra Marathon, which was scheduled for early April but was subsequently postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak here. Not to be deterred Tony continued his training regardless and smashed out a 10km PB on 21 March, completing the distance in 32:04 shaving more than 2 minutes off his previous fastest 10km! But apparently that wasnt enough for Tony. In the wee hours last Saturday, 11 April, he set off in the dark to run his marathon, without fanfare, without the crowds, or the hype and excitement of a staged event that many of us need to lift and inspire us to achieve our very best. He ran the 42.2km and he did it at an astonishing av pace of 3:41/km for a new marathon PB of 2:35:43! Congratulations Tony from Aplins Weir parkrun and thank you for inspiring us to just keep going and not let the things that are beyond our control affect the things that are within our power to make happen. Stay active and safe everyone
