19.01.2022 A media release today from the office of the Victorian Premier Dan Andrews has announced that from September 28 "AHPRA registered allied health services in Melbourne will be able to resume seeing patients for face-to-face services for a broader range of treatments than just preventing hospital admission, such as for pain management or to prevent a deterioration in functional independence." You can read more on this positive announcement and download the latest media release here: https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/safely-reopening-elective-su The APodA will be receiving a full briefing on this pleasing update tomorrow afternoon from the Victorian Chief Allied Health Officer and we will ensure members are immediately and fully informed of these details.

16.01.2022 South Australia’s COVID restrictions are easing and the Stay at Home Direction is being removed from midnight Saturday. Allied health providers can resume face-to-face services from Sunday 22 November. Providers must have a COVID Safe plan in place, maintain social distancing and appropriate infection control practices, and continue to use telehealth where possible. A reminder that under the current Stay At Home Direction, people may leave home to receive essential healthcare services. Definitions of essential health services from schedule 1 of this Direction how it applies to allied health can be found here: https://ahpa.com.au//south-australian-covid-19-restrictio/

16.01.2022 MELBOURNE PODIATRISTS This Sunday 6 September, it is expected that the Victorian Premier will outline the proposed Covid-19 road map for Victoria. Ahead of this announcement, the ApodA met with the Victorian Chief Allied Health Officer (CAHO) yesterday and at this stage this is the only information that can be confirmed:... There is likely to be a traffic light structure in place which suggests Red = closed, Amber = restricted, Green = open with a COVID-safe plan. Podiatry under Stage 4 is operating in an Amber environment The ApodA has recommended to the CAHO that podiatry and allied health be instated at Green following the current Stage 4 restrictions. This would be similar to the restrictions that were in place under Stage 3. This is based on the current evidence that suggests: o Many of the patients that have been deferred for 6 weeks cannot be deferred without significant patient health consequences o All podiatry practices in Victoria have a COVID-safe plan o Podiatry follows strong infection control and hygiene practices as part of standard practice o All staff, including admin staff wear masks. Patients will be wearing masks also o All practices have implemented strict social distancing protocols and practices in waiting and clinical areas o Podiatrists are well versed and accustomed to the use of PPE when practicing o There have been no COVID cases reported in Allied Health practices o Podiatrists are an educated audience and therefore understand the importance of ensuring they do not attend work when unwell We have requested more notice than was provided at the commencement of stage 4 restrictions and we will inform podiatrists of further details as soon as they come to hand.

14.01.2022 AN UPDATE FOR MELBOURNE/VIC PODIATRISTS: Allied Health Professions Australia and the APodA today met with the Victorian Chief Allied Health Officer and representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services to seek further clarification in relation to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) reopening roadmap for Metropolitan Melbourne (https://www.vic.gov.au/coronavirus-covid-19-restrictions-ro). Unfortunately, at this time there is no further official guidance and we are conti...nuing to wait for details, which we understand will be available next week. However, based on our discussions to date it is our understanding that restrictions remain at their current levels for an additional 14 days from the 14th of September to the 27th of September. We encourage providers to contact clients with bookings over the next 14 days that do not meet the current definitions outlined in the permitted workplaces guidance (https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/health-care-and-social-assistan) to reschedule appointments appropriately. We are cautiously optimistic that restrictions will be eased slightly from the 28th of September, however we will provide further updates early next week or whenever further information is available. We also understand that guidance on student clinical placements issued by DHHS on the 14th of August (https://www.google.com/url) remains current, and the department will advise if/when there is any update available. We thank and acknowledge podiatrists for their ongoing support for the community and their diligence in managing the tough balance between maintaining client health of their clients and reducing potential exposure to COVID-19.

13.01.2022 Get involved this Foot Health Week! There will be many ways to get involved in Foot Health Week (12-18 Oct) this year - more on this soon! To kick things off, we'd like to extend an invitation to our members to take part in a special initiative we're running during campaign week. We're looking to connect members of the public to podiatrists in their area for complimentary 20 minute foot health assessments via telehealth. This is a great way to engage potential new clients, pr...omote your practice to the community, and help spread the word about the importance of good foot health during Foot Health Week. We are looking for APodA members who are willing to come on board and offer some complimentary sessions. If you're interested in participating, please get in touch via email ([email protected]) with your full name, practice name, phone number and location, and we will get back to you with more information. Please note, you must be able to offer telehealth consults to participate.

02.01.2022 The announcement of the continuation of stage 4 restrictions in Melbourne for a further 2 weeks has been nothing short of disappointing for many Melbourne based podiatrists who have made significant sacrifices over the past 6 weeks and more. Like a lot of Melbournians, the prospect of having to endure an additional two weeks of stage 4 restrictions and the prospect of having to again defer some patients is very, very concerning. I need to reassure members that we are doing wh...atever possible not only to seek clarification on exactly what this means for podiatry and what restrictions will look like through the phases imposed upon the State, but we are also seeking to enable practitioners to provide service beyond the current triage in an endeavour to lessen the likelihood of patients conditions eroding through long absences in treatment. We have been assured by Government representatives that this will be clearer later this week. In the meantime we will provide any updates of relevance to ensure that podiatrists are given as much notice as possible in readiness for returning to practice. I encourage APodA members to contact the Association if you require further guidance and I look forward to providing more information on the impact of ongoing restrictions in Melbourne as soon as it comes to hand. #APodA #podiatryau #covid19 #membersupport #australianpodiatry #australia #health #healthpractitioner #podiatry #virus #coronavirus #assistance #resources

02.01.2022 New Episode out now! The APodA Podcast presents... Evidence Based Practice | How DO you find the best evidence to guide your practice? Clinical decision making is a complex process. It is dynamic and fluid, involving gathering data from multiple sources, interpreting and reasoning the information, collaborating with both the patient and other professionals. You then have to choose a course of action and evaluate the outcomes of that choice ... Yet, how does a busy podiatrist ...find the time for this and how do they find the appropriate sources? Join the APodA and Dr Sheree Hurn as we discuss this and more. Listen here https://www.buzzsprout.com/956374%C2%A0 #australianpodiatry #apoda #foothealth #podiatry #podchat
