21.01.2022 With the new and expanded Tyalgum Village Markets I've re-orientated Discover Tyalgum towards promoting the markets every month. The last two have been sensational, it's been good to see the general store add their edge to the market, it's made the whole event so much more successful. Here's the post that I made for the last markets. It reached over 30,000 people and had 40+ organic shares. https://www.facebook.com/discovertyalgum/posts/2765302693717055
19.01.2022 Here's an example of a great email campaign I did last August for the O'Heart Festival. I made a series of detailed emails that we sent to everyone that signed up and we also shared the links to thousands of people through social media. Here's the emails: All the Music at the festival > http://bit.ly/2TehM3F All the Environmental events > http://bit.ly/2OlVoEh... All the Artists > http://bit.ly/31hWAOm This stuff is quite difficult, there are serious design constraints on email programs. Still, I think they came up great and really hit the mark: Easy to read and find what you're looking for, tons of information - everything that eager fans and media outlets need, dozens of links to find out more about everything. What's great is you can get a link to the email so it can be shared online, just like this! And we made emails like this for EVERY aspect of the festival.

19.01.2022 I work with Enclume Jewellery through the Discover Tyalgum newsletter, everything I've seen designed by Kirra is unique and aesthetically exquisite. Definitely a jeweller's where you could find something extra special. Check out the Facebook page for more.
18.01.2022 The Discover Tyalgum newsletter, we put this together and share it all over the Gold Coast and email it to thousands of subscribers every week: Hello friends, Here’s the Discover Tyalgum newsletter for you to enjoy. http://bit.ly/3beBmp3... Come for a beautiful country drive this weekend, spend the whole day browsing, dining and taking your time in Tyalgum Village. Even when it rains Tyalgum has a huge undercover indoor/outdoor area shared by the local cafe, bakehouse, coffee barista and gin bar, with a stage featuring live music, perfect for a rainy day out. Read the full newsletter here > http://bit.ly/31tlomJ Thank you for supporting Tyalgum village - 100% chain store free with a preference for local, organic & handmade. 17.01.2022 BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! I'm currently working on an idea that has been coalescing for about 20 years. It's an integration of educational psychology with the workplace, something that I have seen from spending years owning businesses, teaching business, and just teaching.... Here's the brief: ... What would your business be like if you went on holiday for a month? Imagine if when you returned it was actually better... (yep, that's the sales pitch - now here's how) What I've done is developed an approach for managers and business owners that frees them from the archaic boss v worker structure, to create a workplace culture where workers solve problems. How do you do that? Change the culture from 'workplace' to 'research dept'. This begins by implementing ideas from educational psychology, e.g. don't tell your staff that it's a bit beyond them, they'll hate that; just tell them it's in the zone of proximal development, that it's normal to experience disequilibrium and learning is impossible without it! Ok, that sounds complex, but it's not really, and it's amazing to see what happens when people learn how to learn.... It's much better than just telling staff off for the rest of your life. I'll be running a free webinar on this idea, followed by a course and a short book. You can look out for me on some speaking tours about this idea too! Exciting stuff...
16.01.2022 Doing some work for this awesome band - The Heart Collectors. I describe them as 'epic folk'. All acoustic instruments, exceptional musicians, quality artistry, evocative videos. Have a listen here > https://youtu.be/26I8h3rzb_8
15.01.2022 Just put this together for The Heart Collectors. This band has so many great photos, really high quality videos too, everything they need to break through the commercial noise. Enjoy listening.... How long has it been since music really made you feel something? Opened your heart to buried feelings, revealing treasures long misplaced... "The Heart Collectors are famous for their epic folk songs, evoking a timeless quality that's instantly recognizable and deeply evocative. Yet... such truthful musical expression is always new, groundbreaking and wildly liberating...." Listen, lift your spirit out of the ashes, here's a collection for your heart: Out of the Ashes > https://youtu.be/26I8h3rzb_8 Elemental > https://youtu.be/Jay7f53vmoE Woodstock > https://youtu.be/RXHLyVAQhmY Listen > https://youtu.be/D7TmXfhE_zE One > https://youtu.be/5FjrYEPiVcg
14.01.2022 Kirra's a good friend of mine from Tyalgum Village and she's also an excellent silversmith. Her store 'Enclume Jewellery' makes superb artisan jewellery. I always feature her work in the Discover Tyalgum weekly newsletter but I thought I'd share it here too, just in case anyone needs something very special, she does great commission work.
13.01.2022 Click through all the photos on this post to see how we format the Discover Tyalgum newsletter for Facebook. I love being thorough, not just a handful of photos, more like 30.... Every business is featured with a substantial blurb. https://www.facebook.com/discovertyalgum/posts/2532148747032452
09.01.2022 So I'm not the greatest webdesigner.... but you don't have to be! Here's something I knocked up for the O'Heart Festival to get them some sponsorship. I wrote all the blurbs, edited all the pics, laid it all out on one page. Here's the link > https://oheartfest.com/sponsorship/... Easy to read and navigate, some pretty pics, it works, that's all you need. Too often people spend weeks and way too much to end up with something they can't adjust later without hiring some 'expert'. I can show you how to do stuff like this in an afternoon.
06.01.2022 Just knocked up this ad for the Fire Fundraiser on Fri 21st. I used a photorealistic filter to make all the images pop out a bit more on people's feed. Also ran an image for each of the artists. I like doing FB ads where you just make the post first and then use that post as the ad content. Sometimes the whole carousel and video ads just look too much like ads. When you use a post it looks like a normal person has done it, not like a big commercial operation. Because this is ...a charity gig, it really had to come across as genuine (because it is!). I also love this opening shot of everyone having their photo taken, classic semiotic play. Plus everyone's really happy and the colours are wonderful and rich. If you're local come to this gig, there's usually only one band on so this will be a packed night for Tyalgum Village. Come along! 100% of door sales, beer sales and loads more is all going to the charities.
06.01.2022 Really enjoying marketing this band The Heart Collectors. They're doing an album pre-release, selling it directly to their local fans at this one special concert then not selling any more until the official release later in the year. 'Time to say I love you', is a great title considering all the drama in the world, and it also wonderfully captures the genuine connection between a band and their fans. I used some fancy text in this, but kept it minimal. Yes, you can make bold,... italic and change fonts on facebook posts (and instagram), it's a little arduous but do-able. It just makes the ad stand out above an ordinary post, but not so much it's gimmicky. Because it's all about an upcoming CD I added the pics, blurbs and links for all their previous releases too. Again, I just made this as a post and then used the link to the post to make the ad. This means that this stays on their page after the ad has run, which is important because fans are likely to go looking to purchase CDs after the concert, so keeping the ad there makes it easy for the fans to do so.
06.01.2022 The wise office does not make the error of supposing that there could ever be a psychologically 'normal' human being or lasting, complete harmony across all departments. It knows full well, and is undisturbed by the idea, that we are all distinctively odd, anxious and only just holding it together. This is wholly to be expected and in no way shameful. The wise office has no interest in the fanciful and cruel notion that things could ever be 'professional' at all times. It recognises the concept of professional for what it is: a conspiracy to persuade us that we might be more level-headed than any of us actually are. (Alain de Botton)
06.01.2022 I love doing stuff like this. If you've got a good cause and you want some marketing done, if I can help I will. Good result here: FLUTTERBUCKS PIZZA RAISES NEARLY $3K FOR LOCAL CHARITIES!... https://www.facebook.com/discovertyalgum//2560163507564309/ See more
05.01.2022 DEALING WITH MEGACORPS (part 1 of infinity) Every now and then you might get something truly absurd like this I received from Facebook.... There you are, mortgage, 3 kids, and some very average employee at Facebook randomly closes your entire advertising account when you're running a full time marketing agency. In the age of megacorps this kind of stuff is far too common, it's happened to me several times. What to do? Well usually you get a tiny box to write some response in with no guarantee of a reply and you can never find that communique again. Fear not, Facebook do have a place where you can write to them, it's hidden in plain sight. If you look everywhere on your page you'll never find it though. Here's the trick, just add the word 'support' to the facebook url. So instead of https://www.facebook.com/ it becomes https://www.facebook.com/support - that's all you have to do. On this page you should find the details of whatever silly decision Facebook have made about your account, and usually if you click 'read more' at the bottom of their message you can enter a response. In this case that I experienced the issue was resolved within a couple of hours. However, I never received any information about what ad might have breached their policies or why. Just remember that in the age of megacorps they often act with great irresponsibility towards their customers. If you think Facebook is bad, try dealing with Google..... Some advice, always add some friend as an extra admin on your site. If you ever get locked out for no reason at least your friend might let you use their account so your whole online business doesn't end up never activated again.

04.01.2022 Apollo is now marketing Julie Sims Marriage Celebrant! I love that this photo is an authentic 'photo' that has been scanned in, all the speckles imply a 'marriage that lasts a lifetime'. Instead of going into all the services, prices, details of what a celebrant offers, just a romantic line - so it connects emotionally. After all, that's what love's all about!
04.01.2022 Big shout out to my old mates Steven Essa & Darren Jenkins now running X10 Effect. I actually used to manage their bands (Cryogenic & Mortality) and had them on my record label back in the 90s. We caught up a couple of years ago and they re-inspired me and gave me a load of training. I can't recommend them highly enough - they're genuine people with real expertise.
