21.01.2022 PHONE SCAMMER ALERT: PLEASE BE AWARE We have been contacted by a number of Apollo Bay residents advising us that they have received calls from a person claiming to be an officer from Bendigo Bank. The type of fake call being made varies, with some claiming to be the President of the Bendigo Bank, from the Banks Fraud Department and sometimes even mentioning the local branch managers name. If you ever receive a call from someone claiming to be from our bank, please DO N...OT give out your personal details over the phone. Bendigo Bank will never ask you for your password. WHAT THEY TRY AND DO The caller is telling people that there has been fraudulent activity on their account and is asking them for personal details, such as Access IDs and passwords to ensure their account is secure. We have been advised by our Financial Crimes team that these people are gaining names and phone numbers from a generic source, such as online telephone directories and that they do not have access to your banking information. If you do receive a suspicious call from anyone, simply hang up the phone. If you ever receive a call from someone you are unsure of, you can tell them that you feel more comfortable calling the branch on 03 52377779 or our official 1300 BENDIGO number (1300 236 344). 21.01.2022 COMMUNITY UPDATE ON THE SEABIN Back in 2019, our community investment program helped to fund Apollo Bays First Seabin. We are happy to now update you on this ongoing project. The bin was installed in the harbour after its display at the Apollo Bay P12 College fete, raising lots of questions from the students about how the bin works and how we can reduce plastic floating in our oceans. However, whilst the Seabin is working and removing some rubbish from the harbour, the area... in which it is currently located fills very quickly with seaweed. Port staff have identified a new location for the bin where they feel that it should perform more effectively and once relocated they will monitor its collectIon of not only micro plastic and rubbish, but oil from the boats. Once the Seabins permanent home is decided upon the goal is to install signage explaining how the bin works. This will also act as a reminder to all visitors to our town, and the Great Ocean Road, that all rubbish should be disposed of responsibly or taken home, and not left on the beaches or the foreshore. We will continue to keep you updated once the Seabin has found its permanent home

18.01.2022 Following up from our very successful mental health event last year with Wayne Schwass, we are now proudly partnering with Great Ocean Road Health, The Apollo Bay & District Health Foundation, and Anglesea, Winchelsea and Lorne Community Bank Branches to bring a very special live stream event to our Community. At this stage, we are asking you the same thing we did last time...."bring a mate"...but this time, it's "tell a mate"- We want you to tell a mate (and yourself) to save the date - Sunday November 8th at 3.00pm for a very special live stream event that will further reinforce the message that "it's ok not to feel ok" It has been, and continues to be, such a challenging year for us all, please take the time to invest in your own mental health and well-being by tuning in to this important live stream event

06.01.2022 This week is Mens Health Week This is an important opportunity to highlight mens health and what it means to be healthy Through a series of promotions, events and publicity around the country, Mens Health Week is here to provoke thought and discussion about what needs to happen to improve male health.... Last year we focused on supporting mental health and well-being of our community through some community initiatives, so this is a great time to revisit some of the special moments from that time. We wish to continue to support mental health and well-being of our community in the future. It has never been more important given the current situation. Watch this space for our updates.
