24.01.2022 True fact... we don't blow smoke... Happy Fri-yay

23.01.2022 Did you know you can't smell smoke when you're asleep? All smoke alarms in your home should be interconnected - this means that no matter where a fire starts - all alarms will sound.

23.01.2022 As we bid farewell to 2020, we're urging locals and visitors to the region, not to ruin the party with illegal fireworks tonight. We're all disappointed the real deal can't happen but it's important to know that illegal fireworks often cause significant bush and grass fires. None of our members want to spend their night putting out a deliberately lit fire! They're also extremely dangerous to whoever may be lighting them, and the on lookers! All our members wish locals and visitors a cracker of a New Year, most importantly stay safe.

23.01.2022 Only 1 in 10 Victorian households have smoke alarms in recommended locations. Are you one of these households? While we all spend more time at home, only going out for essential reasons, it's an opportunity for you to make sure that you and your family are safe.

22.01.2022 What to do after getting tested? 1. Go home You must return home immediately after the test. You must wear a face covering on your way home. Do not make any stops on your way. ... There is a risk that you could have #coronavirus (#COVID-19) and could spread it to other people. You must remain in self-isolation at home until you find out your test result. Colac Otway Shire Council are offering additional support to community members impacted by COVID-19. Call their support line for advice 5233 9440. Let’s be kind to everyone, show respect, wash your hands, keep your distance and if you can, wear a mask. Together we will get through this. #IAmApolloBay Find out more: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/getting-your-results-covid-19 #covid19vic

18.01.2022 Have you felt today's wintery blast? With more people indoors, and the weather cooling down it is more important than ever to ensure you’re safely heating your home. Keeping flammable materials away from heaters and open flames will help keep your home safe (and warm).

18.01.2022 The Brigade held its monthly meeting on Tuesday. Since March we have been conducting these through video conference. The safety of our members, and the community when we respond to incidents, is our priority, which means we may look different if you do see us! If we respond to an incident, all our members are required to have their temperature taken and wear masks and gloves throughout.... We are all doing our bit to get through this, and we will get through it together. Have a safe weekend, wash your hands, wear a mask if you can, and need to travel outside your home, and keep your distance. #iamapollobay

Don't forget, from 11:59pm this Sunday, face masks or coverings must be worn if you leave your house, including if you are travelling in a car with people outside your household. 11.01.2022 Are you planning to use fire this summer? Do you know if you need a permit? Victorians can now apply for permits online using the Fire Permits Victoria website. If you’re planning your next burn-off, outdoor catering event or celebration using fireworks, Fire Permits Victoria should be your first stop to check, apply and notify.... www.firepermits.vic.gov.au

10.01.2022 CFA has received a number of calls from community members regarding bonfires to mark the ‘Spark in the Dark’ event this evening. We appreciate those who are tha...nking our frontline workers, but urge you to keep fire safety front of mind. As today’s conditions are windy in some areas we are urging those who wish to participate to not do so by lighting bonfires or using fire pits. If you are choosing to light a candle, please ensure it is monitored by an adult and extinguished properly. You might like to mark the event by using a torch or outside light. Thank you and stay safe.

10.01.2022 With confirmed coronavirus cases in the Colac Otway Shire Council ... it's more important than ever that we work together to stay safe. The Chief Health Officer today recommended that adults wear a face mask when outside your home if it is difficult to keep 1.5 metres apart from other people. Your local firies are used to wearing masks! But here's some handy tips in staying safe this weekend.... To wear a face mask correctly: > The mask should fit snug on your face. > Be secured by ties at the back of your head or ear loops. > Ensure that your mask does not have holes or a valve, or tears or broken loops. > Wash your hands or use 60% hand sanitiser before putting the face mask on and off. The recommendation to wear a face mask does not apply to children (people aged under 18 years), individuals with breathing difficulties, and those who have physical conditions that make it difficult to wear a face mask. There is no enforcement on the wearing of face masks in the region. You will not be fined if you don’t wear one at the moment, but it does help! While wearing a face mask adds an additional protective physical barrier to protect you and your loved ones, we still need to work hard to keep 1.5 metres from others, wash your hands often, and cough or sneeze into your elbow or tissue. More information on how to wear a mask correctly here https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/face-masks-covid-19 Finally... remember... staying apart keeps us together.... so only leave home when you absolutely need to.

07.01.2022 We've loved seeing all the visitors in the region recently! Unfortunately though, if you are from a restricted area, our community really needs your support to do the right thing and stay at home again, this time your primary residence, not your holiday home. Our resources, particularly our friends at Great Ocean Road Health and Ambulance Victoria, would be far too stretched if an outbreak did occur - and our community really needs them!... We know it may be hard, it is for us too, as we rely on your visits! But we need your help, so that we can then welcome you back to the region sooner . Thank you in advance, stay safe, keep your distance and wash your hands! 06.01.2022 As an organisation, it's important for us to ensure all members feel included. Today is International Day of Sign Language, an opportunity to support and protec...t the identity and diversity of all deaf people and other sign language users. Peter Busch is one of many deaf members across CFA, and has been a firefighter for over 45 years. Peter is a member of Glenaladale Fire Brigade, who have adapted to help Peter communicate on the fireground and beyond, using certain sign language and ensuring Peter is able to lipread at all times. Happy International Day of Sign Language!

06.01.2022 It's Fri-yay! Volunteers at the Apollo Bay Brigade are excited to be staying at home and doing our part... looks like many people are doing the same and cleaning up their properties, with a large number of burnoffs visible. Of course everyone has done the right thing and registered those burnoffs so the brigade doesn't get called out! It's easy to do..... And it saves our volunteers putting your burn out! Please give the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA) a call to register - 1800 668 511. Thanks in advance, stay safe and wash your hands! #stayhome #registeryourburn

04.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE: This Wednesday 1 July is set to be an historical date for Victoria's Fire Services. The State of Victoria will see an amalgamation of all Officers, Firefighters and employees of the MFB (Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade) and all Career Officers, Firefighters and some other paid employees of the CFA (Country Fire Authority). The new organisation will be known as Fire Rescue Victoria. All current CFA Volunteers will remain with the CFA which will revert to ...being a volunteer fire service. Importantly, this does not mean any change to Apollo Bay Fire & Rescue. We remain 100% volunteer run, and 200% committed to our community. Being isolated means we are sometimes reliant on support from other Brigades to respond to incidents. Regardless whether we are paid or unpaid, volunteer or career, CFA or FRV, the service to the community is our highest priority and we will continue to provide the community with the service you have grown to know and rely on in your time of need. Whether that be a response to a house fire, bush fire, motor vehicle accident, hazardous materials incident, search and rescue, high angle rescue or an Emergency Medical Response alongside Ambulance Victoria, the firefighters at Apollo Bay Fire & Rescue will be here for the community when called upon.

03.01.2022 Queenie's weekend! Did you know... Queenie attributes her long life to washing her hands, staying socially distant and, most importantly, being vigilant about fire safety! We're looking forward to welcoming people to the region this weekend, but please: Drive with care - we don't want to have to cut you or anybody else out of your car.... Use protection - cover your fireplace! Don't leave your cooking unattended. Our volunteers are hungry so will find it and eat it. Maintain physical distancing of 1.5 metres and wash your hands Campers should obey and practice campfire safety, even if it is not a Total Fire Ban day. See here for Campfire Safety https://www.ffm.vic.gov.au//fire-restrictions-and-regulati Let’s all #WorkAsOne and have a safe long weekend. #LoveWhereYouLive #ApolloBay #IamApolloBay For further information visit: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/travel-restrictions-covid-19
