21.01.2022 With so much happening in Australia and around the world, its difficult to balance everything, but important to remember this group of innocent men incarcerated in a hotel in Preston. See if you can send some $$ to help them (via Chuffed, see below) with phone credit so at least they can speak to lawyers, family and people outside.

09.01.2022 A reminder re Medevac vigil 2.Medevac send a postcard The government is still trying to repeal Medevac legislation that permits seriously ill people detained offshore from seeking medical care in Australia. It looks like this will be debated in the Senate on Monday 11th November. We need to let Senators know that we oppose this, and strongly believe that people who are sick deserve treatment. RAR is co-ordinating a Vigil at Parliament House on Sunday November 10th. If yo...u can attend, all the details are on the RAR website: https://www.ruralaustraliansforrefugees.org.au/ And you can send Senators a postcard: https://aran.net.au//2019/10/19.10.21-Save-Medevac-Postcar (There is a list of names of all Senators on the RAR website). But hurry the debate is listed for Monday 11th November. See more

04.01.2022 Latest news from Christmas Island, thanks to The Guardians Ben Doherty. Nearly two whole years incarcerated there. Shameful.

04.01.2022 Please sign this petition. The government has already wasted in excess of $200,000 when the community this family live in wants them back!

03.01.2022 Immigration detention is not a safe place during a pandemic. People who are currently detained need to be released into community supported accommodation.

01.01.2022 BREAKING: Today is a shameful day for the Australian Government. They have successfully torn down the Medevac Law, a life-saving process that puts doctors, not ...politicians, in charge of medical treatment for people indefinitely held on Nauru and Papua New Guinea. To the people on PNG and Nauru who will be affected by this news, please know that RACS will always be here for you. We will continue to fight to defend your human rights and we will not give up until every last refugee held offshore is resettled in safety. Before the Medevac law was in place 12 people died in offshore detention, others waited 5 years for medical treatment. This law was about treating people with basic humanity. Now that has been taken away. The men and women held on Papua New Guinea and Nauru have spent years suffering in limbo, because of the harsh policy this government continues to pursue. We strongly urge the Australian Government to resettle these people in safety as soon as possible. Repealing Medevac and leaving them to languish indefinitely is no solution. The Medevac Law received overwhelming public support 5,000 doctors, 12 of Australias peak medical bodies, Australian Medical Association , and thousands of members of the community spoke out. But still the Prime Minister and Minister Dutton refuse to listen. So we are asking you to flood their office with calls, ensuring that they hear our voices. Tell them that you want to see refugees resettled and able to rebuild their lives in peace.
