09.01.2022 8th Nov 1940, United States ship City of Rayville hits a German sea mine approx 5kms South West of Cape Otway. The Lighthouse Keepers see the flash & hear the... explosion. They later see the crew in their lifeboats. The Lighthouse Keepers telephone Apollo Bay and fishing boats come out in rough seas to rescue the crew. The crew recover in Apollo Bay at the old Ballarat Hotel, known today as the Great Ocean Road Brewhouse!! We are very proud of our forefathers and the history of our venue. The photo in the bottom left was taken in our beer garden back in the days, almost 100 years ago.. Rescued Crew members wrote a letter of appreciation dated 16 November 1940 to "the Right Honorable R.G. Menzies, Prime Minister of Australia which you can read here: https://www.ozatwar.com/german/cityofrayville.htm Photo and repost from @capeotwaylighthouse. Thanks, guys for sharing this image!

08.01.2022 The property has just had an ISO refresh ready for new guests in the near future. A good paint in & out, floors sanded, new blinds, comfy furniture and a new deck to soak in that view.

08.01.2022 100 years and forever thankful for this amazing road.

08.01.2022 We are honoured to have one of the best chefs in the region making his Local Seafood Bouilabaisse this year! Steve Earl - Owner & Head Chef of La Bimba and he w...ill also be our guest celebrity to talk about sustainable food sourcing and how we should support local producers and farmers. Steve was born in Winchelsea, he has always had an affinity for the Great Ocean Road and admired those who source produce from local areas and treated it respectfully. His uncle from Holland was a chef who inspired Steve to understand environment through appetite and at 17 Steve decided to develop culinary skills to complement this vision. La Bimba is about keeping our food cycle as close to home as possible and allowing the produce to speak for itself. The thing about simple honest food is that there is nothing simple about it; its the blood sweat and tears that go into it long before it even enters the kitchen and this is what makes simple food extraordinary. Thank you Steve. We cant wait to enjoy your soup and hear you speak!
