17.01.2022 Dear Friends, In light of the unprecedented and uncertain times that the hospitality industry is currently experiencing we have made the difficult but necessary decision to hit pause on the Appetite for Excellence awards for this year. As our industry navigates these unchartered waters we feel that the best way to support our community of judges, and young chefs, waiters and restaurateurs, is to allow them to focus their full attention and energy on their businesses and live...lihoods over the coming months. This is not the end, WE WILL BE BACK IN 2021. We are so proud of the last 15 years of Appetite for Excellence and the alumni it has produced. We have so much more we want to do, this is not over. We’d like to take this opportunity to give a 'virtual hug' and heartfelt shout out to the people who make Appetite for Excellence possible each year. We can’t thank our judges enough for the time and commitment they contribute to the process and our incredible partners who understand the importance of investing in the future of the industry. To all the young hospo talent, you guys are the future of our industry and we’re here for you. It’s important to look after each other so if anyone needs to chat please reach out to us. So farewell for now, but definitely not goodbye. We look forward to keeping you posted on future plans later this year and coming back bigger and better in 2021. Please keep using #appetiteforexcellence so we know how you’re going and what you’re up to over the coming months. Lucy & Luke xx

14.01.2022 Happy International Women’s Day. Today we celebrate all the amazing, inspirational women taking a lead in the hospitality industry. In 2019, Bianca Johnston was the first female chef to win the Appetite for Excellence Young Chef Award and joined an impressive group of alumni and participants including our all female 2019 Young Waiter finalist line-up. ~ We are also honoured to have some of Australia's leading women in hospitality taking part in our judging - Jo Barrett, Lisa Van Haandel, Kylie Xavier Ashton, Danielle Gjestland and Analiese Gregory. And of course, Appetite for Excellence co-founder Lucy Allon continues to lead the Appetite for Excellence program in its 15th year

06.01.2022 So many in hospitality, from the smallest café to the largest fine dining restaurants, have been seen to pivot in the last few weeks and months. We’re proud to be part of such an innovative, creative industry. Wherever you can, please try and support those offering alternative food and beverage options and maybe add eating out or grabbing a coffee at your local to your post-coronavirus to do list!

06.01.2022 Counting down have you finalised your entry yet?

06.01.2022 Each year our Appetite for Excellence finals take place at TAFE NSW and we thank them for their incredible support. It’s a win-win for everyone as their hospitality students get the chance to meet our esteemed judges, observe our talented young chef finalists through the competition, whilst helping us out with an intense day of cooking, tasting and judging. And who knows, maybe these aspiring young students will be some of our future young chef finalists?!

03.01.2022 There’s no question that the hospitality industry is facing some of its toughest challenges at the moment. We also have to look to the future of our industry and how we will work through the recovery process. Appetite for Excellence founders Luke Mangan and Lucy Allon, are putting their knowledge and commitment behind this movement, looking at ways to support the industry. Luke spoke to @skynews recently about an initiative they are leading to bring industry leaders and business minds together to support their hospitality community, as well as start planning for recovery. Stay tuned for updates! #ProjectRecovery

02.01.2022 Fresh, seasonal Australian produce is one of the central themes we look for in our Young Chef finalists’ menus. At Appetite for Excellence we want to celebrate and showcase the very best Australian growers have to offer and support our Australian farmers.

02.01.2022 We are going though unprecedented challenges in Australia and across the world. Everyone is impacted in some way and our hearts go out to everyone affected, particularly our hospitality industry which is experiencing an immediate impact. . BUT we are an entrepreneurial and resilient industry, which is already evident from the creative ideas emerging. From dine-at-home offerings like ‘Mr. Niland at Home’ from @mrniland and @julieniland (many similar offerings are listed on @go...urmettraveller), to the pasta #rescuepack from some of Melbourne’s top restaurants being powered by @danivalent @kristofferpaulsen . @growassembly have created ‘The Power of Restoration’ initiative and purchased restaurant gift vouchers to auction off, they will then use that money to buy more vouchers from a different group of restaurants and so on. And these are just a few. . So let’s garner our collective power, dine out where we can, take advantage of new opportunities to order in, support where we can and kick covid-19 in the proverbial $#*%! In the meantime, we will continue to celebrate and support the people and places that make the Australian hospitality industry ROCK . . #savehospo #hospitalityindustry #supportsmallbusiness
