25.01.2022 Why do we have ‘Crunch and Sip’ at Appin Public School? ‘Crunch and Sip’ gives kids the chance to refuel on fruit, vegetables and water during a set break in class. It’s a simple way to help them stay hydrated and energised, and it lifts their focus in class. Including vegetables, fruit and water in the daily routine helps to shape kids’ preference for healthy food. There are other benefits too. Kids want to be part of ‘Crunch and Sip’, so mums, dads and carers quickly learn not to forget water and a healthy snack in the lunchbox! More than half our kids don’t eat the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables each day, and many forget to drink unless they are reminded, so ‘Crunch and Sip’ helps there too.

24.01.2022 Road safety, skate park safety, holiday safety This morning an Appin Public School student was injured when he scooted into the back of a car as he was crossing busy Appin Road at the skate park. Thankfully he was not badly injured. Please discuss road safety regularly with your child/ren and insist your child/ren only crosses Appin Road at the traffic lights, for everyone’s safety. Have a safe and happy school holiday!

21.01.2022 Wellbeing The wellbeing of all of us in Covid-19 times is frequently mentioned on social media and in the news, however, it is often doom and gloom. Whilst it is okay to experience feelings of loss, bewilderment or anxiety and have these feelings validated, every one of us needs strategies to move away from these feelings back into some form of control and hope. A very simple strategy is one everyone can manage either themselves, as a family or at school with teachers. This... strategy focuses on acknowledging what we are grateful for and why we are grateful. Research is showing that keeping a grateful diary for just one week has a positive impact on the welfare of all age groups. It can be done verbally by families at dinner or bed times as an alternative to writing. The benefit with writing is that it can be referred back to at other times. We urge you to try this. Our children have rarely faced anything in their short lives where they haven’t been able to do what they want or have what they want. Let’s help them appreciate things they do have, things they can see and people around them that love or help them.

19.01.2022 Some great tips.

19.01.2022 We would like to sincerely thank Appin IGA for their generous donation to Appin Public School from their Community Chest. Payment was made to our school for the amount of $1000.00 which has allowed us to purchase a brand new laptop for our classrooms.

18.01.2022 Next Tuesday Kindergarten will be heading off to Belgenny Farm on their first school excursion. We hope they have a wonderful day! Image taken from Camden Park EEC Facebook page.

15.01.2022 We are incredibly proud of one of our amazing Year 6 students, Brady Wilson. Brady recently put forward an entry to the Wollondilly Shire Council Art Competition where students had to create an artwork based on a threatened species within our local area. In no time at all, Brady drew an amazing picture of a koala perched in a tree... Brady won the competition for students aged 10-12 in our whole district. Furthermore, Appin Public School won the school award for the best sch...ool in our area. We will be receiving some lovely native plants that will be planted around our school. Well done Brady and well done Appin!!

14.01.2022 The best six years of my long teaching career has come to an end, and today I enjoy my last day ever. I have so many wonderful memories to cherish of the fantastic Appin Public School students and their families. Thank you so much for your kind words, cards, emails and gifts. Words are not enough to express my thanks and I am humbled by them and also so grateful. The special tree of students' finger prints brought me to tears and is something I knew parents would love to see. Goodbye, good luck, stay calm and stay safe!

14.01.2022 'It hasn’t been easy, but look what we’ve produced!' Thank you to all our students, teachers, school staff and parents and carers who have made this a year to remember. See you next year for #FirstDay2021! #LoveWhereYouLearn *Posted by the NSW Department of Education*

05.01.2022 Cyber Safety These Spring holidays, give devices and phones a holiday too. You may like to try some of these ideas instead: Pot up some seedlings or cuttings to make hand-made gifts for grandparents or family members for Christmas.... Plant some herbs or vegetables, nurture them and enjoy eating your home grown produce in a few weeks. Sort through family members’ recycling and make some extra pocket money ready for Christmas when you take bottles and cans to the nearest recycling station. Take some sandwiches, drinks and fruit to a local beach, park, walking track and enjoy a few hours of sun and fresh air, always remaining covid-19 safe of course. If water restrictions and weather permits, put a sprinkler on in your back yard and let kids run through. Walk, skate or scoot to our local Appin shops rather than driving in the car. Bake! Everyone loves home-made biscuits or cakes Organise a bug hunt in your back yard Build a cubby outside or with blankets and lounge chairs inside Have a fashion parade and if you’re brave, let the kids loose in your wardrobe to dress-up Put on a play Have a Lego building competition See more

04.01.2022 ATTENTION Year 5 PARENTS & CARERS Dear Year 5 Parents/Caregivers, Unfortunately, this morning the bus was one hour late leaving for Wooglemai Environmental Education Centre due to an accident on Appin Road. This has put the planned program behind schedule by one hour. Wooglemai teaching staff have kindly offered to run the full day’s program for our Year 5 students, in line with the program Year 6 participated in yesterday. This means that the students will return to school... at 4pm rather than at 3pm which was our previous expectation. We anticipate that most students will walk, ride or scoot home as they normally would however, if you would like to make alternative arrangements, please contact our school office on 46311220. Kind regards, Vivian Harrison Principal - Appin Public School.
