25.01.2022 This is why the kids are told to Get down low & go go go.

25.01.2022 Appin Valley hazard reduction this SUNDAY 27th, has been confirmed and planned by Fire Control. Appin and surrounding brigades will be burning from 9:30am. Please keep out of the bush area, close your windows as smoke will be surrounding the area. We expect a low flame hight due to the moisture levels.

24.01.2022 To all the fathers in the Appin Fire Brigade, and to all fathers everywhere, may you have a wonderful and joyous day. HAPPY FATHERS DAY!

24.01.2022 A huge effort from everyone across 2019/2020 fires. Appin Rural Fire Brigade had many members involved in many aspects from Support, Incident Management, Liaison, Remote Area Operations and we still continued to roll a truck out everyday. Definitely a season that won’t be forgotten for a long time.... Again, thank you to our amazing community for the ongoing support.

24.01.2022 Over the next few weeks, we will be posting a number of factsheets showing what you can do in preparation for the fire season - stay tuned, and stay safe!

24.01.2022 Appin Valley residents and surrounding homes in Appin, most likely will be effected by smoke from Thursday night 3rd Sep' and the weekends to follow. This is an extremely important HR to secure the homes along the bush line.

23.01.2022 APPIN Fire Brigade has now received the Premiers citation. Well done everyone.

22.01.2022 SPECIAL NOTICE TO ALL RESIDENTS OF THE WOLLONDILLY AND WINCECARRIBEE SHIRE AREAS REGARDING THE NOTIFICATION OF INTENTION TO CONDUCT PILE BURNING ACTIVITIES: Please note that effective from Monday 3rd August a new Notification Procedure will come on-line and all landowners and property occupiers who are intending to conduct pile burning activities MUST notify by following the link below and register. Log onto www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify... You are also required to notify your neighbours at least 24 hours in advance of the time that the intended pile burn is to commence

20.01.2022 The 1st October marks the beginning of the fire season so no fires without a permit. As well as getting a permit from the local Council & your local Brigade, ...you then need to log on to the RFS website and fill in the notification to do a burn, this requirement is all year round. This will hopefully overcome a lot of call outs for brigades that are not necessary. Please do not ask for a permit via a Facebook post. You need to contact us directly as we need to inspect the burn. See more

20.01.2022 The FIRE DANGER RATING for Saturday 28th November 2020 is VERY HIGH

20.01.2022 Sad news indeed, Jack was instrumental in building our current fire station, he was present at our formal station opening and was supportive throughout his years as Wollondilly Fire Control Officer (FCO), a sad loss to our community. Appin Rural Fire Brigade would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Jack’s family and friends.

20.01.2022 This weekend is Get Ready Weekend, we are set up and ready to answers those questions. Call past the local shops and come see us, grab a bacon and roll from Southwest Barbecue and a coffee from one of the local cafeterias.

20.01.2022 Today we learnt that a dear friend to our brigade Paul Turner retired captain of Mount Hunter Brigade and retired Group Officer from our Southern Highlands Team suddenly past away yesterday. Appin RFB would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Marie (his wife) and family and also to our extended fire brigade family of Mt Hunter, we are truly saddened by this event.

19.01.2022 A very special day at Telopea Park in Buxton today, with the official opening of a new community playground and memorial dedication to honour Horsley Park NSW R...ural Fire Service volunteer firefighters Andrew O'Dwyer and Geoff Keaton who tragically died whilst fire fighting in the local area on the 19th December 2019. Hosted by Wollondilly Shire Council, proceedings included a welcome to Country, smoking ceremony and heartfelt addresses to family, colleagues and community gathered, from our Prime Minister Scott Morrison (ScoMo) and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, recognising and acknowledging the sacrifice and significance of such a fitting and beautiful community project. Was lovely to see young Charlotte and Harvey playing on the equipment and in the playground that has been built and dedicated to their dads. Their smile and laughter was simply infectious. A truly wonderful example of local community led projects, that matter to all those affected and impacted by the fires and tragic loss of Andrew and Geoff last year. A huge shout out to Krystal who conceived the idea and all those who donated and assisted in realising her wonderful initiative. A special shout out too, to Kim who made it all happen, and who was coincidentally named this week, as our 2020 NSW Volunteer of the year - deservedly so. Thanks again all involved for such a special and fitting tribute as well as a lovely day. Resilience NSW

19.01.2022 Congratulations Shane Fitzsimmons, well deserved.

16.01.2022 We're returning the favour. After helping us last fire season, 55 Australian firefighters will travel to the USA to assist with fires burning on the west coast. These firefighters will undertake specialist incident management, aviation & field supervision roles.

16.01.2022 The NSW RFS have deployed four of its aircraft to the north coast area to assist the NSW SES with flood and storm operations as wild weather and heavy rain sett...le over the area. RFS Aviation Rescue Crew members Alli McGoldrick and Anthony Duff check equipment while awaiting tasking from the NSW SES. Good luck team, hopefully you won’t be required. See more

12.01.2022 FACT: There will never be as many fire trucks as there are houses. Do not depend on a fire truck being available at your home. But if you and your home are well... prepared, you stand a better chance of surviving a bush fire. There are simple things you can do around your home to prepare it for a bush fire, like keeping the grass low and having a cleared area around your home. Learn more and get ready at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare #getreadyweekend #nswrfs

08.01.2022 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL IN THE WOLLONDILLY SHIRE.

08.01.2022 Ever wondered how fast a grass fire can move? With the @Bureau of Meteorology predicting a warm and wet spring there is likely to be good grass and crop growth across NSW. With this growth will come the increased risk of grass fires. Maintain your property, be prepared and have a plan.

08.01.2022 Please note all fire permits are suspended.

07.01.2022 On this day last year NSW recorded 17 concurrent Emergency Warnings. Communities in the Blue Mountains, Clarence Valley, Richmond Valley, Walcha, Armidale, Namb...ucca, Kempsey, Tenterfield, and the Mid Coast were all being impacted by fire. At 6pm 94 fires were burning across the state. While the losses on that day were significant they could have been far worse were it not for the extraordinary efforts of firefighters and community members. See more

05.01.2022 It’s our Captains 50th birthday today, join me in wishing him a wonderful birthday. Congratulations Darren, hope you have a great day.

05.01.2022 Today we held an intimate yet social distanced ceremony to reveal the Geoffrey Keaton and Andrew O’Dwyer Memorial Playground at Telopea Park in Buxton to the fa...milies of the hero’s that lost their lives fighting to save our community. In attendance were the families of Geoff and Andrew, their Captain and crew from Horsley Park Rural Brigade, Picton CWA, Wollondilly Shire Council Representatives including Mayor Robert Khan and Councillor Matthew Deeth, Rural Fire Service Officers including Commissioner Rob Rogers, Superintendent Martin Surrey and Area Commander Simon J Davis, and of course, a team from the Buxton Rural Fire Brigade crew. Today was an incredibly special and emotional day. It was especially touching to see the children of these families enjoying the playground built in the name of their dads, uncles, sons, cousins and brothers. Thank you to all that attended and to all that made this possible in the first place. The official opening to the public will be in December where the journey of this amazing memorial will be shared
