21.01.2022 A nice practical infographic guide for the athlete following a vegan diet taken from this paper https://jissn.biomedcentral.com/articles//s12970-017-0192-9

15.01.2022 Another great initiative encouraging regular physical activity. Accumulate 42.2km of walking/running throughout the month of October. As an added bonus you’re raising money for heart research I think this has been going for a couple of years but I’ve only just heard of it!

15.01.2022 I have the coconut oil debate frequently so great to see the evidence ...

15.01.2022 This is really interesting. Might need to cut back my coffee intake!

14.01.2022 COVID-19 update We are still open and will be offering clinic appointments or home visits for our clients as long as this is still advised as safe by the government. Healthy eating is still important (though maybe more of a challenge with some food shortages), chronic diseases still need to be managed, food intolerances still need to be managed. We will also continue to offer phone/Skype/email consultations for the duration of this pandemic. The health and safety of our clien...ts is our top priority and we will be undertaking extra hygiene measures including hand washing before and after each client, maintaining a 1.5m distance from clients and disinfecting hicaps terminals between uses. Keep safe and wash your hands x

14.01.2022 The new Heart Foundation guidelines only suggest limiting full fat dairy and eggs (to 7 per week) if you have high cholesterol or heart problems. And they recommend increasing fish and plant based proteins and limiting red meat to 350g/week. Good news for my 2 egg/day habit!

12.01.2022 We're really excited to be offering the My Health for Life program, with our first group session starting 14th August at the Logan Hyperdome Library. Future session dates are still being confirmed, but we are looking at morning and evening sessions to accommodate a broader range of participants. My Health For Life isn't your usual weight loss or exercise program; its aim is to promote long term behaviour change and reduce your risk of chronic disease. It's aimed at all age gr...oups and abilities. It's totally free, and is a QLD Health and Diabetes QLD initiative. More information is available at https://www.myhealthforlife.com.au/ To find out more and complete a risk assessment please call us on 0406 761 558 or email [email protected].

12.01.2022 Yet more evidence for the benefits of supporting the gut microbiota with a high fibre diet. Super-interesting and this has implications beyond diabetes management.

12.01.2022 This year I’m trying to get more serious about my environmental impact, and as a dietitian I’ve got to admit I focus more on the nutritional profile of foods rather then their environmental sustainability. But this article really made me think. Dairy is super nutritious but a massive source of greenhouse gas emissions. Oat and soy milk come out on top in this article, and I’ve got to say soy is a pretty good nutritional match for cows milk. So I think they’ll both go in the trolley this week and we’ll see what we think of them!

07.01.2022 Love this! ‘Cooking’ isn’t just the chopping/steaming/sautéing. It’s the planning, the shopping, the mental inventory of what food you have in the fridge, what you ate last night, whose turn it is to pick dinner, when you last ate fish, which veggies are cheap and in season? It’s a big mental load. No wonder I have clients that don’t like cooking!

04.01.2022 Really excited about sharing Nutrition and Cooking as we Age in Underwood - Sept 14th @ 10am. I'll be uncovering some key concepts to healthy ageing as well as cooking and recipes that you can try at home. This is a one-off FREE event, although you do need to RSVP https://nutriage.eventbrite.com.au/?aff=Apple as there is very limited seating, hope to see you there!
