25.01.2022 Ive just gone though some numbers this week. The below are averaged per day over this last week. 18 text message conversations. 22 phone calls 17 Facebook communications. 12 work related emails... Our clients are absolutely our #1 priority. These communications are how we can do what do. If I cant answer my phone, dont respond to a voicemail or reply as soon as you might like, please understand this is because were also actually at your home fixing appliances whilst all this is happening. Shortly, well be moving to a 1300 phone number and were looking into software to manage and automate as much of this as possible. But its really in the baby stages.

25.01.2022 So a new record today. 49 text message conversations today. Didnt bother counting the others mediums. Going to bed

25.01.2022 Twas the night before Yom Tov & Mendel was quite proud. Hed set his oven to self clean just like Frida had asked. Repeatedly and quite loud. In the morning would begin the cooking and cleaning.... Steam smoke and dust in a cloud. Mendel was woken with the sole of a shoe. His eyes met the stern look of his wife whos face was quite blue. The oven she cried, what did you do? Its not heating! I cant cook! Therell be no brisket for you! Dovid comes running hes got a clue. Abba, Call the Doctor hell know what to do. The Doctor? Mendel asks what would he know, It doesnt have the Flu! No Abba! ApplianceGP! They fix ovens, so therell be some Mandelbrot for me. So Mendy calls Borach who comes with a smile. Gut Yom Tov he says in just a little while. The Doctor comes quick, and all is besseder. A few hours later Mendel, Dovid and Frida all sit for the Seder.

23.01.2022 Further to an earlier post titled Which washing machine should I buy, a link to which is below. Below is some information on the 3 major European brands.... Asko were recently taken over by Haier, a Chinese company. While it hasnt affected production yet, parts, warranty and customer care has been impacted very negatively. So much so that recently a part for a 2.5 year old product wasnt available for 4-6 weeks. Lets say I came up with a creative solution. Bosch and Miele are better contenders. Both are still owned by the parent companies and the product remains good value. The real difference is that both Miele and Asko, have stainless steel outer drums (as opposed to plastic) and cast iron counter weights (as opposed to concrete). The mechanics are much the same across all 3. Miele also has the added advantage of much better exterior panels and enamel. They also have a 10 year quality pledge on the enamel and stainless steel drum. Asko in particular are guilty of the enamel corroding and flaking around the dispenser area. https://www.facebook.com/387298221665831/posts/903094013419580/

22.01.2022 Weve been watching the Euro and USD. AUD has fallen relatively and this means parts from Europe and US will increase. While we do carry some stock of common parts, we obviously cannot carry everything and eventually will need to replenish our supply with the parts at the new price. We have been able to absorb much of this without increasing our callout fee. Something we are of course reluctant to do in the current climate. However, some parts will increase by 5-10%. Bosch ...& Asko have communicated increases of 15-20%, Miele increased prices earlier in the year and havent indicated further changes yet. ApplianceGP will not increase our labor charges during this time and will continue our charity and pro bono work as usual. However some parts may have to be increased. Again this is due to the AUD relative to other currencies.

21.01.2022 Here’s another helpful tip on getting the most out of your washing machine over this time. It works wether the machine is operational or not. https://www.facebook.com/onlyonsxm/videos/3037075376312545/

19.01.2022 Weve all had bad experiences with one company or another. I know lots of clients all very happy with Asko, Bosch & Miele. And some who are of course vehemently dissatisfied with any or all of the above. Reviews too, arent a good indicator of customer experience, largely because one only goes onto a review site when one has had a bad experience. Few will post its amazing, it washes my clothes! truly a miracle Take for example Miele. My experience has been very positi...ve. So to with many others who swear by their Miele appliance. But no one posts the positives. So its not a real indicator of broad customer experience. Every one I know including myself moans about Telstra. Its a national pastime but honestly my experience with Telstra over the last 15 years has actually been quite positive. Conversely Im not a fan of VW vans except for the annoying fact that theyre the most comfortable to drive... when theyre on the road as opposed to up on a hoist. For the most part, of the thousands of machines sold across all manufacturers, Systemic failures are rare. From personal experience, most faults are wear and tear from age, or customer faults like drain blockages. Statistically speaking, youre safe with anything. Which of course doesnt make your decision easier. At least with Bosch or Miele you have consistent availability of parts. Electrolux group (inc: Westinghouse, Simpson, AEG, Hoover) do fail miserably in that area. But customer experience, so often has more to do with the person on the other end of the phone, than it does with the appliance itself. And when the customer service person is just having a bad day (admit it, you have them too) then it reflects poorly on the company and thus the brand. These things are worth considering before you cease wanting to have anything to do with a particular brand, model or appliance. We find ourselves tacitly implicated in the quality and caliber of goods we recommend. So we are careful about what we suggest. Its always your decision. We absolutely respect that, and we dont want to see you wasting your time or money either.

18.01.2022 We will be around over Xmas & NY period although with limited capacity. Please understand, most suppliers have also closed so access to spare parts may be limited or delayed.

17.01.2022 During this unsettling time, we are still working, however with obvious precautions. We are prioritising fridges and washing machines, and will attend to dishwashers, dryers and ovens as time allows. Please be conscious that like other businesses, we rely on suppliers and couriers to deliver parts, and there have been some delays recently. ... As always, we do our best to resolve these issues by carrying commonly used parts but we obviously cannot possibly carry everything. Good luck, good health and we look forward to being able to assist in anyway we can.

17.01.2022 Why do I have to pay a callout fee & why is it $X? You have a job. Typically you get on a train or drive to your workplace. You do what you have to do & come home to your family and kids. Then drive the kids to assorted activities, get into dinner and bedtime and possibly around 9:30 might actually have a conversation with your partner. But thats a different post. Its pretty much the same for us, except typically our workplace is your home. We have to drive to your home t...Continue reading

17.01.2022 It’s been a long week. We’ve done 3 times more work than we’ve ever done before. Josh, Gabriel, Bobby and I have worked much later than usual to get through it all. I’m celebrating Friday with a phenomenal bottle of wine from one of my favourite wineries. Have a great weekend everyone & thank you for putting your trust in our team at ApplianceGP

13.01.2022 Will we travel to Mt Hotham to repair appliances? Absolutely, as long as there is the promise of skiing and accomodation.

13.01.2022 First person to correctly guess where I am, get free labor on an appliance service.

12.01.2022 Over the last 2 hours, my phone has gone flat twice- I cant charge it fast enough with all the communication we have been receiving since the Govt announced a lock down. During this uncertain time, we are deemed to be an essential service and we will continue to operate as long as possible. Please remember, you are not the only ones panicking. You are not the only one with an appliance related problem. We are really very busy doing our absolute best. We will respond and c...ommunicate as soon a possible. Please respect our family time. You cant expect us to be at our best if we dont get a chance to recover from a busy week. Like you, we need time away from our clients to be able to focus on our own family and friends. Some parts suppliers are also closed, couriers may be short staffed. There are many variables we dont know yet. We too have never experienced this. Its new to us just like it is for you. There may be delays that neither you nor I like. Remember, nothing we do is urgent. Urgent requires an ambulance. If youre looking to us at 11pm, remember youre kids are ok, youre safe. Everything else is a minor inconvenience in comparison. Please dont expect an answer till a more civilised time.

11.01.2022 With the Jewish festive season approaching, many of you will be preparing by cleaning your ovens, fridges and freezers. Whilst this is always a good idea, I implore you, please do so early. Were stocking up on spare parts to help us be able to help you. We of course, cannot possibly have everything in stock- we do our best. But you can assist by checking over things early and avoid the rush later. We wish you all a Chag Sameach and thank you for your continued support.

10.01.2022 Miele are a great machine- a very sturdy product, but after 9 years of primarily cold washing, the alkalinity of the detergent and the forces placed on the metal have caused it to fracture. Miele have a 10 year quality pledge on this component and they covered the repair work. But the customer was without a washing machine for a week and this cannot be done in your home- which means we have to take it away to the workshop. Its some 4 hours labor. Please, please use a hot wa...sh from time to time. One a month, 90 degrees long wash. NO detergent- instead use some epsom salt or bi carb & vinegar. It really will prolong the life of any machine.

10.01.2022 Mouldy Door Seals? Most people wash their clothes in cold to warm water. Thats between 15-40 degrees C. Thats because most fabrics can only withstand that temp...erature range without shrinkage or discolouring. Its worth noting that detergents, even those proclaimed as good in cold water, work better in warmer water. The powder dissolves better and the enzymes they use also work better in warmer water. Bacteria & mould also like warm water. So when youre washing your clothes in 30-40 degree water, the single cell organisms that accompany your lives, think theyre on holiday in Thailand. Its warm, wet, lots of food, no risk of sunburn because its dark. Some washing machines, for example Miele, have a Hygiene Info alert to let you know that it needs a hot wash. When we install new washers or replace a door seal, we advise the following. Every month or 2, set the washer to the hottest wash possible. 90-95 degrees, or add vinegar, bi-carb or a specific cleaner if you have. (I do this on a delay start so its done overnight) Keep the door ajar when not in use to encourage air flow Its usually not necessary to wipe the seal after use, but that wont hurt at all. Washing towels & bedding in +60degrees will also aid in preventing mould growth. Basically this is all about creating an environment inhospitable to bacterial or mould growth. Once the seal has developed mould, its not usually likely to go away. Ive spent lots of time trying to clean it off, and certainly that can remove some of it, but it wont go back to 100% clean. Prevention is always better.

10.01.2022 Every day we get calls from existing and new clients. Were glad we do. Sometimes we can help the same day or the next. Well often answer a message late at night, well outside of business hours. Or offer free advice over the phone. Sometimes we might be driving past your street just as you call. Sometimes I can be there in 15 minutes. Just today, from phone call to door knock was literally 3.5 minutes. But sometimes we cant get to you the same day or the next. Its not b...ecause we have an important golf game. Its because were out helping people. We dont want to be rude or trivial. We want to help you. But its unfair on us to be upset with us when we cant get to you inside 24 hours. Sometimes were waiting on parts from a third party. We cant will the part into existence. Its comes when it comes. No one is actively seeking to delay the process to annoy you. Please remember, if youre contacting an appliance repairer such as ourselves, your kids are ok. No one needs an ambulance and fortunately its not urgent. Well do whats possible within the framework of the business, it just might not be at YOUR earliest convenience.

09.01.2022 36 text message conversations 42 Phone calls 14 Voice mails 10 Facebook messages 10 (valid) emails... Please forgive us if We dont get back you as quickly as wed both like. We are investigating a VA system to automate some activity but that will take some time. Its just not possible to give the client Im with 100% and answer all those communications simultaneously.

08.01.2022 Some of todays feedback Hi Boris I wanted to let u know I was very happy w Josh. He was fabulous. Im sending your number to another friend who is having issues w her oven. Regards Cherie Hi Boris, ... l just wanted to let you know how happy l was with the oven service today. I was not only impressed with the prompt timing but also with the service Gabriel provided. 08.01.2022 Hi Boris and Gabriel. I would like to thank you both for your attitude, punctuality and most of all for your professionalism. You have provided the best possible service in the current situation of part supply during covid restrictions and considering situation with the intermittent problem in my ASKO "high-end" dishwasher. You have saved me a lot of money by not replacing expensive computer and recognising in time that there is undetectable problem associated with overcompl...icated and very unfriendly design of that particular model of ASKO. You spent fare amount of time trying to detect the problem, check all sorts of connections and very thoroughly adjusted every possible part of my dishwasher, including how the door is opening (much better now, nice and slow, not falling fast hitting my legs like before). Also I am very grateful for your advice on which dishwasher to buy in the future in case my current one will start playing games with me again. Hopefully not! It works ok after you "magic touch". I guess the red light at the bottom has to be on during the washing and it's not an indication of the fault like I thought before. Regards. Olga Unger See more

07.01.2022 Weve been very short staffed this week of school holidays but weve pushed through. Im sure Ive dropped many things I shouldnt have but I can only do so much. Everyone is back on board on Monday 15th. Please bear with us while we catch up on whats become a staggering workload next week already.

07.01.2022 Its always a great feeling to get comments like these from a client we helped over the phone. Hello Boris, its Jenn Harriott just letting u know I was away for a few days. Have reset the fridge when turned back on last night open once today to check it is working.I can not thank you enough, you truly are the most honest business man that I have met in years. Any wonder you are well respected & recommended so often on the hub! I definitely would highly recommend you to others. Have no understanding why my fridge is working but happy to except. Much thanks Boris, best wishes for a personal healthy & successful business 2019!

06.01.2022 Josh, Gabriel and Boris wish you all a Hag Sameach and Happy Easter. Thank you for your continued support. Were taking the week off between 19-26th. Well be available to answer questions and messages over the break.

06.01.2022 Some months ago, we attended to a client with a top of the line Miele Dishwasher. Its some $4800 worth and it needed a part that wasnt available in Australia. That meant a 2 week delay from Germany. The client was very upset and expressed that vocally. We spent some time on the phone to Miele, however it was sufficiently out of warranty that while they were willing to discount the cost, they couldnt magically make the part appear any sooner. Some 2 weeks later I called t...he client, advised the part had come in and I could fit the next day. The clients response came a surprise when she asked that I delay a further 2 weeks. She has 2 sons, 16 and 20. They dont get along and spend most of their time apart in their own rooms. The client had convinced the boys to help out with the dishes. Predictably, they fought, argued and threw tantrums like toddlers. But after 3/4 days, things slowly came into a rhythm. After a few more days there was conversation, then help with homework. Then a lift to school. After about 10 days the 2 boys didnt come home at the usual times. The concerned mother calls. Turns out they had gone out to see a movie and get some dinner together. When I did return, the client apologised for herself loosing sight of the big picture and told me how grateful she was that this had happened. Having her sons constantly fighting was creating other family problems and the dishwasher was in her mind a lifeline. When that lifeline was removed and she had to create another solution, the serendipities were infinite for both the sons and the parents. Im a parent, nothing is more important than my kids. And when I see my mum, I can only imagine her joy, when she sees my brother and I working together. Our kids the closest of friends. That both sides of the family share a common love for each other. For us it wasnt a broken dishwasher. It was our mum nurturing that from birth. Im so glad that for this client has this too. It wasnt us, we didnt create it and we deserve absolutely no credit. It was a frustrating delay on a part & we were merely bystanders. But that frustration led to her sons reconnecting as friends. And Im so glad for her and her sons that her family has that priceless bond again. Its almost worth breaking the dishwasher deliberately.

05.01.2022 With the new restrictions for Melbourne, there is some uncertainty as to to what’s allowed and what is not. We ask you to decide what you can reasonably define as urgent. ApplianceGP can continue to trade however with some obvious restrictions. We ask that you too wear a mask. We strongly suggest that you sanitise the work area to your satisfaction. There are going to be delays on parts, both from local suppliers and from AusPost. ... We at ApplianceGP will continue to do the best we can to provide the services we do, to find solutions to the appliance issues that come up. We do now hold a number of new and second hand appliances in stock. It might not be exactly what you want but it’s what we have and it’s available now. Usual manufacturers warranties apply on new products.

03.01.2022 Finally getting a few days away, camping near Wilsons Promontory at Shallow Inlet Caravan Park. Were driving down the last stretch,300 meters from the entrance, by the side of the road a woman is waving madly indicating I stop. We do and she approaches the van asking if I repair dishwashers. I look down the side of the van that says ApplianceGP and reply that I do. ... She tells the story that her handyman who couldnt fix hers was driving away and had called back saying an appliance repair van was driving down the road. Could I possibly drop in later and take a look? Reluctantly I agree, figuring out here in Yanakie shes unlikely to get anyone for weeks. We set up camp and a couple of hours later at 9pm I drop into a house literally next door to the caravan park. She directs me to a Miele dishwasher. I say what are the chances, a dishwasher guy is driving down the road at just the right time & he just happens to be an Miele Authorised technician. After assessing the dishwasher, I zip out to the van, and return a few moments later with just the right part. As were talking while the dishwasher is on a test, I look around and notice a samovar on a shelf and ask how she acquired it. In yet another random coincidence, her mother was born in Ukraine just like I was. So, dishwasher fixed and new friends in Yanakie made. I cant get over how the universe aligned. At just the right moment her handyman saw may van, I just happened to be an authorised Miele repairer and just happens to have a small obscure part in my van & I just happened to have a similar samovar myself. We hadnt even planned to take the van but it just turned out easier.
