10.01.2022 After the 2019/20 summer bushfires destroyed a wooden bridge at Long Swamp in Ben Bullen State Forest, vehicles have been driving through the swamp instead of a...round it, causing significant damage to this sensitive ecosystem. Long Swamp is habitat for the Giant Dragonfly and sits at the headwaters of the Coxs River. In a meeting with representatives from Forestry Corporation, Lithgow Environment Group Inc. and Pensioner Express Trailriders we identified an alternate crossing for visitors to use until the bridge can be replaced. Access to the damaged part of the swamp will be blocked and remediated over the coming months. We will work with Forestry Corporation and volunteers as part of the ‘Swamped By Threats’ project to help restore this swamp after the fires. Ben Bullen State Forest is currently closed, however, when it reopens, visitors are encouraged to use the alternative crossing. Swamped by Threats is supported by Central Tablelands Local Land Services with funding from the NSW Environmental Trust.
