24.01.2022 Ah Fashion crisis of me as cartoon character I will put to use in powerpoint slides and maybe a bit of marketing here and there. I have 2 revisions, not sure about shoe colour hahah. Also my hip hand is a bit small but otherwise does it pass for me?

23.01.2022 I knew when it was time to fly like a bird. Keeping ‘open to possibilities’ has been a major theme all my life. It took some courage to spread my wings across the sector and transition as a professional. I did do it and have arrived full flight into the allied health arena. 20.01.2022 It’s been fun updating on the new Appy office, website and NDIS registration. Its all been added work on top of providing my service. So I’m letting everyone know I’m now taking a couple of weeks to grab a bit of rest, reset and chase a sunset or two. Back in August

20.01.2022 After a big morning of delivering AHA moments to my clients. I must leave this beautiful lunch space and head for the rolling hills and beauty of Bega. Telling myself this

19.01.2022 There are free resource such as interactive slides, Q and A’s and even an online game for each topic. This has a lot of merit towards getting the most out of the internet (safely) and alerting learners to certain risks and downsides of the Online World. Learn more about the free resources here: https://www.appyconnections.com.au/online-safety-education/

19.01.2022 1st day of the springy season. Working with technology means lots of screen time. I was super lucky today and both my clients wanted to work on their verandahs in stunning locations at Tura Beach and Bega. Just wrapping up the day from home because I can how did you spring into spring?

19.01.2022 We don’t want our learners falling prey to cyberbullying and just as equally we don’t want them to cyberbully someone else. Let’s focus on what we really want our learners to know or do rather than what we don’t want them to do. Be kind rather than, ‘don’t be a cyberbully’ is a great place to start.

18.01.2022 Now until early 2021, I will be working on a new program that can be delivered online and in person. It’s all about supporting school leavers with employability skills and of course use of technology with purpose. I’d love to put a survey out soon to gauge relevant content and interest. In the meantime .. do you remember ?

18.01.2022 This looks like a great program

17.01.2022 Everyday life lessons on the move A man with autism required visual aids for a specific new skill related to ‘keeping safe’ and following a process for contacting someone when he got a flat tyre on one of his solitary rides on country roads. He engaged a speech therapist who had taken photos and completed the conventional low tech visual aids (paper versions) and short step by step instructions. A great resource but not user-friendly to take bike riding. As he was to take ...his mobile phone on the bike rides, I collaborated with the speech therapist and was able to use her images and words and replicate this into a high-tech version using an existing app ‘Sounding Board’. This converted the same message/lesson but now the instructions were on his phone and therefore accessible and mobile at all times. Additionally, it was further customised with his own voice as audible instructions to follow. A learning program was developed and implemented and his support staff were trained to follow and practice this process with him. See more

17.01.2022 A few years ago, honours research was conducted in a real time case study. The researcher (myself) also implemented the study in their shared community and the participant became her hero. Read more about the research here: https://www.appyconnections.com.au/academia-in-action-find/

17.01.2022 hey there I’ve had my wintry break, it wasn’t all roses as my health went a bit haywire Good news is that I’m rested (including my head) and on a good road. Love, health and happiness is key. Winter blooms also make the zigzag journey so beautiful . Looking forward to getting back to it next week xo

16.01.2022 Happy Birthday Jennifer I’ve known this awesome woman for 17 years or so. Nice to have a dance and celebrate her day, 80s style

11.01.2022 A big vision requires a big screen. I have an intern from University of Wollongong for a few months. He’s going to be on the 32 inch soon and the 55 inch touch screen computer is a whirl pool of fun for us to work on an epic vision

09.01.2022 It was a privilege to be involved in the research and a part of the momentum of using new (at the time) technology and it was actually happening in real time in real situations. As we used Talking Mats when planning the intervention, there was a clear understanding of what the participant liked to do when attending day programs. It was well worth taking that step, it is a person-centred planning tool that worked. The participant was set up for success from the beginning, the rest was practice, trial and error and courage on his half. 06.01.2022 There are 5 findings for Academic Speak and Everyday Practical Speak from the Honours Thesis. You can learn about all 5 here: https://www.appyconnections.com.au/academia-in-action-find/

06.01.2022 A talking mat is a communication tool based on extensive research and was administered to the non-verbal participant of the study to ascertain his preference of activities. Fifteen ‘recreation and leisure’ symbols (with Velcro backing) were made available to him, examples were: cooking, walking, shopping, listening to music, computer and ten pin bowling. 05.01.2022 The 6 part training is called ‘Rising Sun Program Get ready for your working day’. The topics all relate to ‘Employability Skills’ and use of technology to assist and break down barriers. Get in touch if you want more information, it will be available March 2021 as an online training program and would be accessible through NDIS funding.... 05.01.2022 Developmental Educators have a diverse tool kit and I get most excited implementing individually tailored programs. I’m happy I don’t fit into one box and as a DE with my own business and experience, I can quite naturally be creative, responsive and collaborative. In certain instances, if out of scope I refer clients to another AHP or even better work in collaboration. Read more about Developmental Educators here:... https://www.appyconnections.com.au/developmental-educators/

04.01.2022 Hot tip for people who take a zillion photos when they only want one. Back on the job yah! Today an Appy client was shown a new way to take photos with his iPhone. He did well Simply point and press the volume up/down button and it clicks a photo. Try it, it’s a tangible experience - like a real camera

01.01.2022 After a lengthy wait since February. I have news that my reregistration was approved as a Registered NDIS Provider. I've always been registered but to be honest I wondered as a sole trader if the cost, time and resources needed was worth going through the NDIS Commission audit process. I found the energy and I did it. Wahoo! The logo below is a bit tacky I know ;) While Appy Connections is the business name, my trading name is Kristi Sproates and I am a Registered provider of Therapeutic Supports and Innovative Community participation till 2023 :) :)

01.01.2022 Im exploring Tik Tok for educational purposes- true Love the support workers honest explanation at the end. It is a funny little clip https://vm.tiktok.com/ZSV1LUcw/
