21.01.2022 A recent field trip to a special patch on private land near Ardrossan looking for orchids. We were delighted to see so many patches thick with flower heads. Thanks to Chris and Peter Davey, our guides for the afternoon.
17.01.2022 A fitting tribute to a local YP legend, Kent Treloar, who passed away on 24 July 2020. He was a self taught and gifted ornithologist, a leader in conservation and the revegetation of native bush corridors. He was the founding member and inaugural President of the Southern Yorke Peninsula Landcare Group. He understood the need to preserve native vegetation and viewed revegetation as a crucial investment in the future. Vale Kent.
14.01.2022 A few photos from a walk around our South Tce gardens and club nursery. The hard work and dedication of club members is paying dividends and was recently on show at a very successful open day, Covid safe of course!
10.01.2022 Thanks to Teresa and Jim Connell from Horseshoe Top-End for the opportunity to explore some special country on their property. While heavy rain Friday had made some roads pretty slippery we were blessed with sunshine for our stay. A field trip last weekend was well attended by APSNYP members who walked through acres of flowering senna, climbed escarpments to find green hoods and other rock dwelling plants and critters. A meandering plant ID trek to the Top of the World lookout was a highlight with breathtaking 360 degree views from the top. Sunset at the other lookout nearer to the homestead was a fitting end to a stunning trip. Thanks to David for organising and leading the vehicles.
04.01.2022 We hosted the South Australian branch of the Eremophila Study Group last Saturday. See the photo of some of the Eremophilas species highlighted. Members swapped various species for grafting and cuttings, so we hope to have an improved garden display for next year. Dr Susan Semple described current research into eremophila's which have been shown to have anti Diabetic, anti bacterial and anti inflammatory activity. Members left happy and have agreed to meet at Kadina next april. The last photo is of the two guest speakers, Dr Semple and Ken Warnes who founded the eremophila study group in 1972
