17.01.2022 Twenty TVET practitioners from six Rural Training Centres (RTCs), the Solomon Islands Tertiary Education Skills Authority and the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) in the Solomon Islands have commenced the International Skills Training, Trainer and Assessor course (IST) with #APTC. The Director in Strategy, Planning and Reform for the Solomon Islands Tertiary Education and Skills Authority (SITESA), Mr Cypriano Nuake, said the training is providi...ng him with valuable skills and knowledge critical to his role in preparation for SITESA’s plans for 2021. This will assist the Quality Assurance Division and I to carry out registration and accreditation of courses in the Solomon Islands as well as recognizing foreign qualifications. It will also assist me in planning activities related to registration and accreditation of courses, Mr Nuakehe said. The second IST cohort for the year convened participants from the Afutara RTC, Asia Pacific Sustainable Development RTC, Divit RTC, Don Bosco Technical Institute, Don Bosco Tetere RTC, Tabaka RTC, SITESA, and the MEHRD). The training is supported through the Australian Government’s investment in APTC as part of skills strengthening focus leading to improvements in quality TVET delivery within the skills training sector. #creatingskillsforlife #TVET #umitugedacreatingskillsforlife Australian High Commission, Solomon Islands

15.01.2022 The APTC has established a collaborative partnership with the The National University of Samoa (NUS) and the Samoa Tourism Authority (STA) aimed at delivering real outcomes for Tourism workers affected by #COVID19 through higher quality TVET training, #skillsdevelopment and employment. To this end, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between the APTC, NUS and the STA on Friday 23 October in Apia, Samoa . The new formalised partnership brings together the collectiv...e efforts of the three organisations, which include the upcoming #APTC training for the STA and tourism sector under the Government of Samoa's Stimulus Package, and joint program development opportunities in the pipeline with NUS in Tourism and Hospitality. APTC Chief Executive Officer, Soli Middleby, joined the partnership signing virtually from Fiji and participated in marking the collaborative milestone with attendees from the Australian High Commission, NUS, STA, Nuanua O Le Alofa, Disability Advocacy Organisation in Samoa, Samoa Qualification Authority (SQA) and other key government ministries. These efforts and focus are more critical than ever as we work to build resilience and enable recovery during the #COVID19 Pandemic for our Pacific Island Countries. This partnership demonstrates a recognition that in doing so together, we can achieve more and enhance success towards these goals, Ms Middleby said. APTC looks forward to the upcoming work to be done in partnership with the NUS and the STA! creatingskillsforlife #TVET #partnerships #PacificSkills Australian High Commission, Samoa Samoa Tourism

14.01.2022 Congratulations and well done to 15 locals from Boera in the Central Province in Papua New Guinea , who proudly graduated from APTC with internationally recognised Certificate II in Construction (CPC20112). Among the graduates were three women and 12 men, who recently received their certificates at Edai Town outside of Port Moresby. He congratulated the graduates for receiving their Australian qualifications. APTC PNG’s Country Director, Dr Brad Shaw, thanked the Edai Town Development and Boera Holdings Limited for organizing the event. It is important for students to finish the student journey from program orientation to graduation. Due to #COVID19, APTC has organised a virtual graduation for our 2020 completed students, but this Edai Town cohort are the lucky ones because Edai Town has sponsored and organised this for you," Dr Shaw added. He also commended one of the female graduates, Keke Namona, and her male colleague for successfully progressing to take up Certificate III in Carpentry (CPC30211) with the APTC. #creatingskillsforlife #TVET #PacificSkills #PNGAusPartnership Australian High Commission Papua New Guinea

09.01.2022 Collaboration, partnership and locally led development are integral to the way APTC works. To support these efforts, we are thrilled to welcome Isamaeli Time, who joins APTC as our Partnership and Coalition Coordinator, based at our Samoa Country Office in Apia . Isamaeli joins the APTC family with an extensive background in climate change, project management, stakeholder engagement and consultation, monitoring, evaluation and learning.... In his new role, he will be on the frontline of APTC’s various partnership initiatives, focusing on collaborating with TVET providers, the Samoan Government and development partners. Isamaeli is passionate about environmentalism and climate change. While working in the technical and policy sphere of the environment and climate change landscape in the Pacific over the years, he also contributed to the creation of the first local taro whiskey product, launched by the Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa in 2018. When asked about his motivation for joining APTC, Isamaeli said he was keen on providing a platform of mutual benefit for graduates. By ensuring graduates are well-equipped with skills and knowledge, employability is increased. They then support their respective industries and sectors, therefore enhancing their services and promoting economic growth, he said. His life outside of work revolves around his family and two children, with sports, particularly rugby, as his hobbies. APTC is excited to welcome Isamaeli to the APTC family. Congratulations, Isamaeli, and we look forward to working together ! #creatingskillsforlife #TVET Australian High Commission, Samoa

06.01.2022 APTC alumni in Lae and Mt Hagen in Papua New Guinea were recently part of the Labour Mobility Track (LMT) awareness and survey. With the aim to find out about alumni interest in the LMT participation, APTC PNG Communication, Alumni and Events officer, Elaine Vaina, travelled with the recruitment drive team to Lae and Mt Hagen to conduct the awareness sessions. Alumni in Lae were fortunate to have a representative from the Australian Consulate General’s office to speak to ...them and invite them to visit their office to register their interest for the Pacific Labour Mobility Scheme. Meanwhile, alumni in the Highlands region have shown interest in the Labour Mobility Track and the opportunities available to them as APTC alumni outside of Port Moresby. Thanks to our alumni in Mt Hagen and APTC's growing partnership with other TVET institutions such as the Mt Hagen Technical College, alumni representatives, who are also trainers at the institute, provided support in organising the session. APTC alumni from as far as Yalibu in the Southern Highlands Province and Jiwaka Province came to attend the awareness session that was held at the Mt Hagen Technical College in Western Highlands Province. The visit also provided an opportunity to hear of some of the challenges faced by the alumni from outside centres, including their inability to connect with each other, and discuss ways to ensure everyone is part of the bigger Alumni network. #creatingskillsforlife #APTCAlumni #labourmobility Australian High Commission Papua New Guinea

03.01.2022 Congratulations to 38 ni-Vanuatu nationals who graduated in Port Vila on Wednesday 25 November with Australian-standard qualifications, delivered by APTC! In her keynote remarks, Jennifer Kausei encouraged the new graduates to continue learning and to be role models in their communities. Australian High Commissioner to Vanuatu, Sarah deZoeten, also congratulated the graduates, making a special mention of the three Torba students who traveled from one of Vanuatu’s most remot...e islands in Torres to Port Vila for their 6-month training.
