23.01.2022 The benefits of complimenting your program with a session of Pilates, or including exercises using foundational ‘mat’ work are far too valuable to turn a blind eye to. This includes exercises such as: - Deadbugs - Hip bridges (s/l)... - Functional TVA & pelvic floor activation - Scapular setting Essentially movements that activate your stabilisers particularly gluteus mediums & your deep core. It’s important to remember these aren’t just used for ‘beginners’ or even just senior clients - these are exercises I see elite athletes use... they’re vital for any rehabilitation programs AND for ensuring a strong foundation of stabilisers which will allow you lift more if you are doing any kind of weight lifting.

21.01.2022 Accountability buddies are a must in life, but it’s important to not forget who has the biggest responsibility... YOU. Your internal dialogue, or the way you speak/think to yourself, is running day in, and day out. What do you think would happen if you were saying and responding the same way to someone else constantly - I can assure you it would be far from constructive.... Others can only keep you accountable to a point, and may only make up a moment in your day, or week. While that mind of yours is with you 24/7 whether you like it or not. So take accountability and ACTION yourself too. Make your headspace and internal dialogue an ally and not your enemy. Because you cannot purely rely on external factors, like an accountability buddy, coach or loved one, it will only have you constantly leaving your life in the hands of others - which is exactly where it doesn’t belong.

Goals on where we want to get, things we want to do, and who we want to be But instead of saying, start doing - visualise your highest self, your ultimate self, and start showing up as them. Live like they do, interact like they do, speak like they do, BE THEM.... You won’t always be motivated, today won’t always be easy, you won’t always wake up with a fire in your belly and you won’t always feel like it but, you must instead learn to be disciplined enough to realise... 17.01.2022 RANGE of STRENGTH I see & define ‘range of strength’ exactly as it sounds - are you strong through a joint/s entire range of motion? This doesn’t mean there is value in being stronger in a portion of that ROM, because we almost always are, and that simply comes down to the nitty gritty of muscle length-tension relationships.... However, when we look at ‘injury prevention’ I believe that by avoiding certain movements, or certain ROM’s you then get weaker in that range, hence actually making yourself weaker in that position & MORE likely to injure yourself in that range. DISCLAIMER: that this works with WELL DONE coaching, foundations & progressions. Too much load, can cause injuries at the best of times, let alone in ‘vulnerable’ positions - train properly & train educated people!!

16.01.2022 Coaches & health professionals should never stop learning Are you coach? Are you still learning? Or, do you have a coach? Do they still sees out growth and progression as a professional?... It could be: learning different skills, learning from other professionals, looking at new research, practice what they preach - learning AND applying! In this kind of industry you have the potential to come across a huge variety of clients/patients now and in the future, I always want to take a reliable, and holistic approach. It’s not just about body composition, numbers or results - it’s also about function, health and ability - so, you can never know or learn too much!! This is something I very highly value, and is something I’ve had as a standard for myself on my journey to being and becoming a health & fitness professional. Especially after falling in love with coaching after being mentee, and then mentoring with @coachjarratt for TJT. I’ve since started training & coaching clients online and face-to-face BUT I also do a Physiotherapy internship with @northsdevilsrlfc & have started shadowing @exalto_holistichub as well. You couldn’t love what I do, and what I will do, more. Being in these environments fills my cup, it’s a passion and constantly pushes me personally too! What standards are you holding for yourself (as a coach), or are you seeking in your coaches?

14.01.2022 Don’t ignore your own potential When you’re face something challenging, what is your response or reaction? Do you face it? Do you ignore it? Do you play with curiosity? Run the f!ck away from it? Is there are pity party maybe?... Your ‘success’, or achievements, even your sense of trust in yourself, ultimately stems from your self-efficacy. Which is your own belief or confidence in your capacity to achieve tasks. Your self-efficacy develops in early childhood but evolves throughout your lifetime from experiences, and influences. BUT interestingly can also be observed as an immediate or short-term result of your biochemistry Poor diet, under eating, lack of physical activity, the pill, and chronic stress are all factors that can have negative impact on your biochemistry, which can be reflected in your self-efficacy Think about how you respond to a challenge... that is likely to be a reflection of your self-efficacy.

11.01.2022 This morning was the start of my third week taking the Seniors class @jettsmargate and I can sure my entire heart was it full this morning, to see a group of 50yo+ members: 1. Consistently put in all their effort for each session 2. Everyone’s technique improving! 3. LOTS of new questions, we almost did a whole Q&A this morning 4. ALL of them can now diaphragmatically breathe, and activate their TVA... So, what excuse is holding you back

11.01.2022 Ever since finding a home-base to start coaching at, the outcome of working with the number of clients I am, seriously sets me on fire Everything I encompass on here, is merely a reflection of what’s transferred when coaching my clients, and it f***en shows! 10.01.2022 ladies & coaches listening up A topic I want to address and will continue to address, no matter how taboo it may seem. Ladies if you are training I want you to be aware of this, and coaches if you are taking your clients training seriously you should at the very least be asking the relevant questions.... When menstruating there is a cascade of hormonal, physiological and biochemical changes going on in the body. So when it comes to training, it shouldn’t look the same to how it was the week before, or it will the week after. More often than not, your body will need to ‘deload’ and sessions decrease in intensity, for some there is no changes - so awareness of your body is vital, and coaches must be adaptable to that intuition. @ Sunshine Coast, Queensland

10.01.2022 Did you know that children as young as 5 report dissatisfaction with their bodies in Australia? . . Did you know that 50% of 13 yo. girls are unhappy with their bodies, and that percentage rises to 80% in 18 yo. girls? .... . Body image is a multifaceted concept comprised of perceptual, attitudinal, and behavioural components. . Body empowerment and confidence to me is far more than ‘health’ and hence requires a different approach. . For me it’s about self-love, it’s about mindset and mental health. It’s raising awareness in the behaviours that come along with poor body image and self perceptions, and understanding when what you may hear, or even notice you’re say yourself may be a trigger to the impacting one of the facets of body image. . . Insecurity, comparison, intimidation, or an unhealthy lifestyle are not in the same mixing bowls. They’re not correlated like some people seem to believe or perceive. They’re not correlated because body image is encompassed into health, not opposing it. . . I could tell you about social media, but I’m sure you’ve already heard so instead I want you to reflect. 07.01.2022 What’s a tempo lift & why do we do them Such a love/hate relationship with tempo’s! A tempo is essentially adding a count to your movement. This can be done on the eccentric (or lowering), a hold at the top or bottom, or on the concentric (push or ‘up’).... OR all of the above if you feel like torturing yourself They’re something that I would usually incorporate for technique. Plus, when they’re heavy enough & slow enough, they allow you to have much more control under heavier loads.

02.01.2022 Incline curls are a juicy way to load the biceps brachi through its whole range of motion (ROM). The biceps activate in elbow flexion, but also shoulder flexion, so when we put the shoulder & elbow joint into extension, you have put a ‘stretch’ through the entirety of the muscle. An incline curl, can be complimented by also adding more load to the inner range of the bicep by being prone (face down) on the bench and performing a curl (or a preacher curl), because now the shoul...der & elbow joint will be in flexion at the same time. You also have your usual bicep curl which has the shoulder at neutral. Neither is more or less effective, but combined will show a much larger increase in strength and muscle growth when compared to purely doing ‘standard’ bicep curls.

01.01.2022 This is a gentle reminder today on the importance of nourishing your immune system, not just this week, not just the next month but every single day of your life. The mayhem, fear & craziness of COVID-19 has only highlighted for me the lack of understanding, education and value we as a society, have for our immune system & health. The gym is just one example where I’ve seen this, every class and session has been incredibly quiet in the last week, yet my young at heart class w...as FULL. Our most ‘at risk’ population, yet have the value and understanding of the importance of movement in this time, along with extra precautions in hygiene, to still come to class and nourish their bodies. Myself and a couple of other health professionals have considered collaborating to provide an immunity program to provide an educational and practical program to allow you to incorporate practices into your daily lives that will nourish your immune system along with your overall health & lifestyle. Take this uncharted time to learn, to nourish and connect. Have faith, and not fear. Look after yourselves
