23.01.2022 Australian Artist Annabel Nowlan’s art practice seeks to illuminate, rather than illustrate, relationships of place, history and personal experience. Nowlan’s ongoing connection with the land manifests itself as a visceral instinctive attraction to materials and surface quality, that celebrates the rich vocabulary and nuances of the tamed and untamed environment and comments on our often vexed relationship with it. We have a number of Annabel’s artworks on display as part of ...our current group exhibition ‘Better Together’. Shown: 1. The Long Paddock (detail) 900x1220mm, mixed media 2. On The Wallaby (detail) 900x1200mm, mixed media 3. Perish The Thought (detail) 900x1220mm, mixed media 4. Unfinished Maps (detail) 780x1200mm, mixed media

20.01.2022 Danish architects Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen originally designed the Mayor Sofa for Sollerod, Denmark's city hall, built between 1939-1942. They were responsible for the aesthetics of the entire building, from the architectural plan to the furniture and small details such as door handles. The Mayor sofa is hand built by skilled craftsmen. The base of the sofa is made of solid oak and a true statement of handcraft and traditional woodworks. The Mayor Sofa and the entire &Tradition range are available at Aptos Cruz Galleries.

14.01.2022 A great article about our friends Damon Moon and his father Milton Moon. Worth a read :)

13.01.2022 Timeless design and craftsmanship combined; the CH22 lounge chair was one of the first chairs in Hans J. Wegner’s debut collection created exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1950 a series that would become iconic for its representation of the modern Danish design philosophy. The CH22 lounge chair by Hans J. Wegner was brought back into production by Carl Hansen & Søn in 2016. It features elegant armrests, an envelope-woven paper cord seat, and a distinctive back shell in ...form-pressed veneer with striking oblong cover caps. The chair’s refined joinery is evident in the finger-jointed corners of the seat frame, with the front legs locking into wooden wedges in a color contrasting with that of the frame. Today, while parts of the process have been modernized, the CH22 is still manufactured as it was when Wegner oversaw initial production at the Hansen family facilities in 1950, with expert hand craftsmanship employed from assembly through to surface treatment and seat weaving. The CH22 and the entire Carl Hansen & Son collection are available at Aptos Cruz Galleries.

11.01.2022 The classic CH22 Lounge Chair designed by the iconic Hans J Wegner in 1950, manufactured by the craftsmen at Carl Hansen & Son Denmark.

09.01.2022 Introducing a contemporary lighting collection designed by renowned British industrial product designer Sir Kenneth Grange in his 90th year, the Type 80 is an all-new design that's distinguished by a striking, graphic profile. Every detail has been carefully considered and precision engineered to deliver streamlined style, ease of use and consistency across the collection. Type 80’s design is enhanced by an attractive ‘halo’ light-escape feature in the shade. This adds an ext...ra dimension in low light environments - a refinement characteristic of Sir Kenneth’s designs for the brand. The Anglepoise Type 80 collection includes lights for table, wall and ceiling. Every detail has been carefully considered with as much finesse as possible. Joints are precision engineered to new exacting standards. Elegant style combined with ease of use distinguishes this collection. Both table and wall versions feature sprung joint mechanisms, cables that are discreetly routed through the arms and an accessible on-shade on/off switch. The wall sconce and ceiling rose are visually aligned and easy to install. The collection comes in four sophisticated, ultra-matte colour choices - Rose Pink, Pistachio, Grey Mist and Matte Black. The entire Anglepoise collection - including the new Type 80 are available at Aptos Cruz Galleries.

09.01.2022 Jeff Mincham’s (Living Treasure and Order of Australia) prolific career as a leading figure in Australian ceramics, spanning more than four decades, has been characterised by a complex relationship with landscape. Strongly influenced by his childhood home in the Coorong and his current home in the Adelaide Hills, his work is the product of a constantly evolving relationship with his medium. His long and varied relationship with the capricious traditional Japanese Raku aesthet...ic has forged a distinct style in which the landscape is not so much viewed, as experienced; continuously re-evaluated through the complex contemplations of a master of his craft. I’ve always thought of myself as living in a landscape, perhaps because I’ve never lived in a city or even a town for longer than a few months. The events of the landscape draw me towards it. My works explore my engagement with its moods, its changes and dramas. They speak of harsh, dry, windswept lands, of the shimmering distance beneath brooding skies. A passing moment of mystery and wonderment captured by the eye and embedded in the memory. We currently have a number of Jeff’s artworks on display as part of our current group exhibition ‘Better Together’. Displayed: Still Life with a Tea Bowl II (various sizes)

08.01.2022 Like a magnificent monument, the Androgyne Dining Table designed by Danielle Siggerud for Menu Denmark - pairs natural materials to striking effect. Evolving the collection further, the bold, confident take on a dining table amplifies the silhouette of the collection’s side table to grander proportions. A table not for the faint of heart, it makes a characterful accent in any space from a domestic dining room to a restaurant or other gathering point. Natural or dark stained oak and Kunis Breccia stone tabletop, the latter of which is available only in Ø120, and base options create bold combinations, complementary or contrasting in texture and finish. The Androgyne Table and the entire Menu collection are available at Aptos Cruz Galleries. The picture also shows the Harbour Dining Chairs and Hashira Pendant also by Menu.

06.01.2022 The new Geometric Pendant designed by Boris Klimek and Lenka Damova for Brokis accentuates the aesthetic expression and structure of BROKIS GLASS, which itself is remarkably distinctive. The collection is defined by basic geometric shapes that characterize the overall contours of the lights and instil them with a singular graphic element to achieve a striking contrast with the animate, almost sculptural makeup of the glass. The suspension components make up the glass geom...etric shapes, their edges rendered in black profiles. The graphic aesthetics of the collection allow the lights to be arranged in a great number of final shapes circle and oval either as solitary lights or as a sort of jigsaw puzzle, which in the hands of architects can result in an endless variety of lighting combinations. Thus, the concept surpasses its primary function as a lighting fixture and opens the door to large-format blocks of light and other uncommon compositions. For the majority of the solitary lights, each side can be finished in glass of a different colour for even greater variability and originality. Available at Aptos Cruz Galleries.

The Let Lounge Chair by Sebastian Herkner and Fritz Hansen embodies the German designer’s excellent skills and signature aesthetic, with Fritz Hansen’s expert craftsmanship and quality. It is designed for a wide variety of expressions and interior styles and is suitable for commercial projects or residential use. ‘I like the character of the armrest which is spr...eading its wings in an inviting gesture. The chair is Sebastian's first design in collaboration with Fritz Hansen. It comes fully upholstered in textile or leather. Bases are available in powder coated steel, classic chrome, or wooden legs in oak, natural ash, and black coloured ash. The possibilities are truly endless. 05.01.2022 Ben Sando’s paintings have rich surface qualities that display strong composition and considered mark making. His works are warm and inviting with imperfect line, broken surface and drip marks, reminding us that they are a made work created by an artist’s hand. Ben seeks an implicit presence with his works; he tries to not over ‘clutter’ his paintings to allow the viewer to also contemplate notions of emptiness, erasure and quiet. His paints are mixed by hand using oxide pigm...ents, ochres, charcoal and some gouache and water colour pigments, mixed with PVA glue and water. Ben has also been known to source his own ochres from the Riverland. Ben’s debut as an emergent artist was at Aptos Cruz in 2006, exhibiting his first solo exhibition in 2008. He is now a regular artist at Aptos Cruz Galleries and featured in our current group exhibition ‘Better Together’. See more

04.01.2022 The Bat Dining Chair - designed by Danish-Italian design-duo GamFratesi and manufactured made by Gubi - is created with a Scandinavian approach to crafts, simplicity and functionalism. The embracing shell with armrests equally embodies both aesthetics and comfort while carrying strong references to the interesting and distinctive shape of a bat’s wingspan. The wide range of shell colours, upholstery options and diverse bases provides for a personalised expression that makes t...he Bat Dining Chair fit perfectly into a variety of public and private contexts. Due to its unique design, the textile of the fully upholstered Bat Dining Chair can be changed with time to give the chair a different expression and new life to the interior decoration. The Bat Dining Chair and the entire Gubi collection is available at Aptos Cruz Galleries.

01.01.2022 Stewart MacFarlane is a notable contributor to the creation of an Australian identity. Dramatic, colourful, and sometimes shocking, MacFarlane’s paintings uncover the intense human dramas that run beneath the civilized order of society. In a framework of stark realism a realism where recognizable Australian cityscapes, superbly evoked, sum up all Western urban life the artist suddenly lets loose a surreality of human gesture and emotion, a cryptic enactment that seizes the viewer with its potency. Veronique Helmridge-Marsillian We currently have four large scale artworks by Stewart including the ‘Memoryville’ as shown as part of our current group exhibition Better Together’ Memoryville_S MacFarlane_1530x1830mmW_2005
