25.01.2022 The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Queensland is presently unable to continue its annual commitment of providing $15,000 to the APWM National Committee. Due to unprecedented financial strains within the denomination, we have been informed by denominational officials and advisors that as regards missionary support, it is "business as usual". Churches are encouraged to give financial support to our APWM approved Queensland-based missionaries--by giving directly... to the National APWM or the missionary's respective ApWM approved partner Missions Agency. You may also donate directly to National APWM to help make up the shortfall that the PCQ is unable to meet at this time. You can easily do this below. https://www.apwm.org.au/finance/

24.01.2022 Vanuatu - Cyclone Harold Moderator General's Disaster Relief Appeal On Monday 12th April, Cyclone Harold hit northern Vanuatu. This was a Category 5 cyclone - m...eaning that it was severe. The Talua Bible College that the Presbyterian Church of Australia supports so much, was badly affected. By God’s mercy, no one was injured. Luganville, 45 minutes drive from Talua, and Vanuatu’s second-largest population centre was also badly affected. Other islands in northern Vanuatu suffered damage but we are yet to receive any reports. Cyclone Harold bypassed the island of Tanna in southern Vanuatu, where Danny and Jen Cooke serve with their family. Our Moderator-General, the Rev Dr Peter Barnes, has launched an appeal for funds for the Presbyterian Church of Vanuatu. He writes: Dear Brothers and Sisters, Towards the end of 1982 my family (Lyn, and young Matthew and Graham) experienced a cyclone off Santo in Vanuatu. It actually lasted for three days, although there were intermittent periods of an eerie quietness. Many of the students’ quarters at the Bible College were damaged, and in going to check out how they were faring, the greatest danger came from flying coconuts. It was less dramatic than I am describing it, but it had some resemblance to dodging flying bricks. Cyclone Harold was a much fiercer threat, and Talua has suffered extensive damage. It is good for Christians to support one another in difficulties (see 2 Corinthians 8-9), and this is an appeal worthy of our prayers and finances. Some aid will be needed almost immediately, but there will be a longer-term plan also. Australian Presbyterians are therefore urged to support our Ni-Vanuatu family, especially those at the college at Talua (TTI). With warm regards in Christ, Peter Barnes (17 April 2020) Please consider contributing to the Appeal and please distribute this information in your congregation. How to Donate Direct Deposit Bank: Westpac Account Name: Australian Presbyterian World Mission BSB: 032 260 Account Number: 151207 and mark your gift 'Harold'. Please email [email protected] so we can send a receipt. Cheque Please send cheques to APWM National 1 Clarence St Burwood NSW 2134 (Gifts are not tax deductible) Please note, if there are any excess funds, these will be separately tracked and used for future cyclone relief in Vanuatu.

24.01.2022 A Christian from China reported about Wuhan: My most liked and most shared post ever! A few months ago a pastor I know, along with church members, was preaching... the gospel on the streets of Wuhan. He kept on street preaching even when Christians were not encouraged to share the gospel. But nothing stopped them from proclaiming the gospel, not even the virus. Now it is the 10th day since the city was separated by quarantine, and protective masks are the most valuable thing in Wuhan. You can’t find a store that sells masks. People are desperate. In response, our brothers and sisters preach the gospel and give out tracts and free masks. They are sharing the word of hope and comfort from God. They have become more and more favoured in the city, even in the authority’s eyes. These churches in Wuhan keep themselves away from all the rumours and political issues. They do what a true Christian should do: preaching the gospel and being witnesses of the true peace and true hope that come from Jesus Christ among non-believers who are in panic and hopelessness. Police officers who used to be concerned about the Christian message have come to Christians for help and hope. Christians wear yellow suits for protection. The yellow has become the most beautiful colour in the city. Christians gained the respect that they never had before because of their willingness to risk their lives to serve. I thank God for their witness and being full of joy in our Lord’s amazing work. Please put them into your prayers. Lots of them are overloaded. They know that this is an opportunity God gave them to gain people for Christ. https://renewaljournal.com//china-how-christians-respond-/

23.01.2022 A Letter From Chandra Smith: Dear Friends, first of all, thank you for your faithful support and encouragement over so many years. You are probably wondering why I am writing to you, after sending out my last newsletter. After nearly 2 years back in Australia, I have seen a large gap between country and city. During my time at SMBC, I have had an opportunity to listen to students from rural communities who have shared what has encouraged and challenged their communities and t...heir home churches to continue during this drought. The one thing that has come up in each conversation is having other Christians from the city or other communities come and visit their towns and especially their churches. Also during the night of prayer for the drought to be broken many ideas were shared about how to help these communities, and one idea was that City churches could adopt country churches in the drought and fire-affected areas of Australia. With the fires and drought, the physical toll and the mental toll on people is huge. How can we encourage Christians in these drought and fire-affected communities to stay faithful and show God's love to their communities even when they are struggling themselves? What does it look like to adopt a country church? There are many ideas and I am sure people can come up with better ones here some: send people out to these communities with money, food, water; pray with people; help them fix fences; clean up from the fires; Play with their children. Call local minister and encourage them and for the country churches without ministers encourage the congregation with teams to come to provide encouraging fellowship. So, friends my prayer and hope are that you and your congregations would prayer, consider how to help and put it in action. There is an opportunity to encourage Stanthorpe Presbyterian Church by coming to Stanthorpe on the weekend of the 7th of December and attend the Country Fair. This country fair will be run by the Stanthorpe Presbyterian Church, it provides an opportunity for the community to share their local products and provide an opportunity for everyone to buy unique and affordable Christmas Gifts. There will be refreshments available and a place to sit and talk and God willing be able to talk to some locals to encourage them. Then stay the night and attend church on Sunday. That would do a lot to encourage church members and also the community, through your presence. There will be many locals attending this fair who are not Christians and would be greatly encouraged by seeing so many people from out of town. I know everyone is struggling one way or another and I know from experience how I have been helped by helping others. If you could please share this flyer and this letter with your wider Christian community, I would be very grateful. Thank you all for your faithful partnership in Christ. Chandra

18.01.2022 APWM Missionaries Keith & Elspeth Campbell have a need: "Our planned furlough is from the end of March 2021 until the end of March 2022. We need to borrow or lease a vehicle for our visit to supporting churches from Atherton to Maclean (NSW). Our absolute 'must have' vehicle is from the beginning of April 2021 until the end of August 2021. It would be great if we could also have a vehicle from mid-December 2021 until the end of March 2022."... Do you know of someone or a Church that can help? Let us know if you can...

17.01.2022 The Public Worship and Aids To Devotion Committee has taken over the PCQ's Book of Family Worship. We have kept the same essential format and content, but have rearranged it and renamed it "Covenant Family Worship 2020". We have put it into a single downloadable document that you can either read on your electronic device or print out hard copies. This devotional features missionaries to pray for every day. The best news is that you are able to download this for FREE!!... Please feel free to give us feedback about the new format and your use of it.

17.01.2022 Today a group of 15 members of Presbyterian Youth NSW, head for Japan to learn about what God is doing there among the Japanese, have their vision stretched and... be an encouragement to our Japanese brothers and sisters. They will learn from APWM missionaries Nathan and Tomoko Stewart in Osaka, and hear from the Chiba (Tokyo) team where Adam and Helene Ramsay serve. This is a joint venture between APWM and PY NSW. We hope to repeat this in 2020. Thank you David and Angela Bell for leading the group!

13.01.2022 India is in Crisis! Urgent prayer request... According to https://www.indiatoday.in/ In India, the deaths due to Covid-19 have crossed the 2-lakh (200000) mark in India as more than 3,000 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours. Daily deaths were at a record high on Tuesday for the first time since the pandemic began in India, as the country, brutally hit by the second wave of coronavirus, continues to battle lack of oxygen, hospital beds for the patients and other... medical supplies. For the past seven days, India has been witnessing a daily surge of over 3 lakh (300,000) cases. While Delhi logged a record 381 Covid-19 deaths on Tuesday, Maharashtra recorded the highest-ever Covid-19 cases at 66,358. While some countries have extended help, projections suggest that the peak of the second wave of coronavirus may be in mid-May. The highly affected states are. Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Delhi. In Karnataka the govt reserves 230 acres of land as cremation grounds. INDIA REFORMED FELLOWSHIP AUSTRALIA We have IRFA indigenous partner churches and qualified missionaries all around India, even some of them affected by Covid-19, most of the states are in Lockdown, worship places are closed, schools and colleges are closed. It is hard for millions of people; India is in a dark situation, but we have light to shine. WHAT CAN WE DO? We can help with finances to address issues such as personal protective equipment, food relief for families in desperate need, and cover hospital expenses. Our missionaries can be the hands and feet of Jesus to sick and desperate people in their ministry field. WE CAN PRAY! We urge each of you to pray for India, and our missionaries in Nepal. Psalm 46 reminds us God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear... The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

03.01.2022 One of the Australian Presbyterian World Mission’s areas of responsibility is Indigenous ministry. We want to encourage prayer, awareness and support for those who serve in Indigenous ministry. With the support of the 2019 General Assembly of Australia, APWM has designated the second Sunday in July each year as 'Indigenous Ministry Sunday'. This year that is Sunday 11th July, 2021. APWM asks that you consider observing this Sunday by showing a video we have prepared, specifically praying for Indigenous ministry and possibly having a special collection - however, we are very conscious of the generosity of many congregations and individuals following the Appeals for Timor Leste and India. The video can be found at https://vimeo.com/563544012

01.01.2022 Introducing Rob and El Falls Australian Presbyterian World Mission would like to introduce you to one of our newest missionary couples, Rob and El Falls. Comme...ncing in early 2021, Rob and El will serve on the staff of the Talua Bible College in Vanuatu. Rob is in his final year at Christ College and El works as a nurse and midwife. They have two children with another arriving very soon. Prior to studying at Christ College Rob served in the APWM National Office and was a short-term staff worker with the Evangelical Union at Sydney University. Rob & El are currently developing their partnership support. If you’d like to find out more then please visit

01.01.2022 One of the incredibly encouraging things about APWM is the fantastic gospel partnerships of which the Presbyterian Church of Australia is a part. In Timor Leste..., we are involved in a gospel network that takes in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Timor Leste, the Australian Church Missionary Society, and the Brasilian Presbyterian Church’s mission arm - APMT. Many will know about the Crossway publication ‘The Big Picture Story Bible’. In this brief video, you can see the latest fruit of this network - the Dili Tetun version of this children’s Bible. Praise God for such a development produced in conjunction with Scripture Union Timor Leste.
