23.01.2022 The new book from Germany, "Aquarium Plants" has information on making Australian Biotope with pictures of Top End aquatics. It was recently published in English, I got my copy a few weeks ago, lovely book. You can order it from the author Christel Kasselmann here - https://www.christel-kasselmann.de/buech.../aquarium-plants/ If you want to make a nice planted aquarium for your native Aussy fish this will help.
23.01.2022 No phones for the last few days, not being looked at until 19 August. NBN Fixed Wireless Access on Mahaffey Rd is still broken. I saw two NBN Techs at BCF a short while ago, said they had respliced the fibre from the grass fire near Stuart Hwy. Got home thing is still broken. Called Telstra, went through 1.5 hours of checks. NBN Tech will visit 19 Aug. So send an email, they are routed through mobile phone connection.
22.01.2022 It is warming up, rainbowfish are breeding, need a few more spawning mops. the dog has been helping. You can see evidence of the dogs help on the green float on the coffee table
22.01.2022 The wet season may be starting, there is a bit of cloud and some rain, it put about 30 cm in the bottom of the Saratoga ponds.

21.01.2022 The rainbowfish eggs are not doing too well, hardly any hatching. Each of the dozens of mops has a large population of seed shrimps (Ostracod), I suspect they ...are egg predators. Does anyone know how to kill them off without causing too much collateral damage? I took some pics through the new Motic microscope and a short movie. See more
21.01.2022 plenty coming along if anyone wants some.

19.01.2022 Computer Problems!!!! Due to a upgrade to our system software, we have lost our newly upgraded business program. So the last 3 months of Invoices, quotes, purchases are lost. There are payments in the bank account with no reference or numbers that I cannot match up. So if you think you have sent money and your order has not been sent, it maybe because I don't know who you are. If you can send a email to [email protected] and I am sure we will get there in the end. We still have save PDF of quotes sent to people it is just tracking them down with no reference numbers or incorrect numbers. Sorry for the inconvenience. cheers Robyn
18.01.2022 Robyn took the toga photo to K Mart and got a cup made. Put an add on the other side. The guys from ANGFA sent me a rainbowfish cup, thanks.
17.01.2022 These are highly underrated fish. I have also been unable to catch them at their best with the camera.
16.01.2022 FISH KILLS Wet season rainfall across the Top End can cause ‘fish kills’ or mass fish deaths in waterholes and billabongs in lowland river channels. Fish kills ...can occur throughout the year in the Top End but are more common during the build-up and early-Wet. The cause of fish kills cannot be confirmed without proper investigation, however there can be a number of causes of fish kills including environmental factors that cause low oxygen levels in water, toxicants and pollutants, and aquatic diseases. Most of the fish kills in the Top End are natural and the result of low concentrations of dissolved oxygen in the water. Early storms in the build-up wash large amounts of organic matter and other soil materials into water bodies. As it rots the material will use most of the available dissolved oxygen and with no oxygen left for the fish, they unfortunately die. You may see a few or even hundreds of dead fish floating on the water or washed up on the banks. If you see something that looks like a fish kill, take pictures if possible, record when and where you saw it and note GPS coordinates if you can. You can report a fish kill by phoning the Fishwatch hotline on 1800 891 136 or by using the NT Fishing Mate app.
15.01.2022 Christel Kasselmann came to Oz a couple of times 2018 and 2019 to look at our aquatic plants. She wrote a very good book some years ago and then published an updated version in 2019. I recommend you get this book if you are keen on aquarium plants. I have the German language copy and will definately buy the English edition.
14.01.2022 Fishing in the Wilton River 2012 with Michael Hammer. Caught a baby bull shark, wrote his name down on the survey sheet and let him go. Thanks for the photos Michael.
09.01.2022 Captive sawfish video. The little sawfish for the TWP have been growing, you can see the fat belly on this young 81 cm female, maybe more than 81 cm now. Those that have not seen them every day think they have grown in a few weeks they have been here in quarantine.
08.01.2022 I recommend this book to all aquarum and native Australian plant enthusiasts. Christel came to Oz a couple of times and photographed our local aquatics for this book.
06.01.2022 The Mary River Chequered Rainbowfish have been breeding well. I took a movie of them eating pea and prawn mince. They live in a five thousand litre pond and get excited at feed time.
05.01.2022 Feeding time in the Goby Aquarium.
04.01.2022 Collecting fish from natural places can be harmful for their helath. Parasites can multiply quickly in a captive enclosure. Recently collections from Corroboree... Billabong have a nasty little hitch hiker called fish lice (Argulus). I did a skin scrape and put some under the microscope. Next step will be to send some to the museum or to a fish Parasitologist. They are a very small species not easily visible as some species of fish lice. They were on catfish, freshwater mullet, archerfish and saratoga. They have been treated with organophosphate and there were also small flukes present, I did not get a photo of them, next treatment will be with a fluke killer such as praziquantel or flubendazol. 02.01.2022 The rain about two weeks ago filled the ponds, however the soil is rather porous so the water is now a meter down on those photos. The Bentonite addition is under way.
02.01.2022 Congratulations Dave Wilson. Melanotaenia wilsoni, one of two new species just described by Dr. Michael Hammer and company and well deserved too. The fish ha...s been in the hobby since it was first discovered by Dave in the Finniss River catchment in1988 and has since also been located in the Reynolds River drainage. It is neat little rainbow now having its own name. Sparring males courtesy of Dave Wilson-Aquagreen See more
01.01.2022 Aquagreen has stopped selling live things at present. Last week we had some freight issues and I expect the freight system will get less reliable due to all flight cancellations.
