24.01.2022 Its carnival season soon! Here are some tips to assist at this time of year. Prepare not scare Most kids havent swam in a 50m pool. So if you know where they will be doing their carnival - best to get there once/twice before the carnival. ... If you arent able to get there and have access to a pool - get them to kick with a kick-board or swim for 2min (no stopping) to get some endurance up. My goggles fell off This happens to even the most elite swimmers. So practice diving with goggles and make necessary adjustments. If youre getting a new pair of goggles - get them before the carnival. Speedo racing goggles ($40+) arent necessary, no matter what the rebel assistant tells you. Eyeline is my go to brand for affordable and reliable goggles. Carnivals are meant to be fun - so be sure that they enjoy their first or next swim carnival!
24.01.2022 We still have some morning classes available for Learn to Swim Term 4 and Term 1: Mon - Fri Please contact us at [email protected]
23.01.2022 Yesterday I was in Rebel and a father was looking at a kickboard for his 11yr old boy. He couldnt tell the difference between 3 styles $69/$29/$25. So I introduced myself and tried to help him. $69 is crazy for a kickboard unless he is in an elite squad and its required. The same goes for goggles. Ive seen kids get $45 goggles for learn to swim - Its not necessary!!! Personally I teach with Eyeline (grew up on Black Max) all my equipment is eyeline - dont get kickbacks ...but happy to support a great Australian company. Great online store and based in Matraville. When I train I use a combination of Speedo & Eyeline. First pairs of goggles shouldnt be more than $15, especially when they will get lost or get thrown around and damaged quickly.

17.01.2022 Its swimming Carnival Season! Some kids love it, others not so much. We teach all our kids to enjoy swimming and try as hard as they can. Heres our tips for a great carnival: 1. Goggles - dont get a new pair on the day of the carnival, as they can take time to get used to - you dont want them falling off when you dive.... 2. Familiarisation - if you know which pool its at, try go a week before to get used to the pool. Most kids unless they are in squads wouldnt have swum in a 25/50m pool 3. Fun - Carnivals are all about having fun and giving it a go. What better excuse on a hot day than to be in the water swimming next to your friends! Im always thrilled to see my kids finish the race with smiles on their faces - the ribbons and places are a bonus for them!!
17.01.2022 Ribbons shouldn’t be the focus of a carnival! As carnival season comes to a close not every child would have received a ribbon, and that’s OK. Ribbons are wonderful as a visual reminder of a child’s great effort, and achievements. ... However with my students I focus on 3 things: Complete the race (especially first timers) PB (Personal Best) Have Fun Sometimes it’s the luck of the draw who’s racing next to you, or your carnival trials were held 2 months before when you may not have been at your best or your fellow racers. It’s more important that my students improve, even if only by 0.5 second, than go slower than the year before and get lots of ribbons. Some students improved by over 5-10 seconds from last year, but didn’t get a ribbon - and I’m 100% ok with that. I can’t express how proud I am of my first time swimmers and my other students, plus past students who continue to swim well.

16.01.2022 As our term comes to an early end due to this unique current climate, we reflect on another memorable season. Weve seen 6 kids become water safe during the terms - with 3 being from our holiday intensives. The peak of our season is always the school swimming carnivals, where we had a record 20 students competing and 5 doing a remarkable job on their first time. ... We know there are numerous swim schools available and Im thankful that youve trusted your children with me and my staff to ensure - they are safe, love the water and enjoy their swimming. These are uncertain times, may you all stay safe and healthy. I look forward to teaching again soon and appreciate all your support for Aqua Kidz. Adam - Head Instructor

15.01.2022 Swimming in Winter isnt for everyone. However here are 4 tips to get ready for Spring/Summer. 1. Going to your local public indoor pool once every 2/3 weeks, will help keep up momentum. 2. For new swimmers who are starting in Spring/Summer, get your kids used to showers instead of baths - this helps your children put their head under water.... 3. On those rare hot days (there are a few) head down to the beach and get in the ocean or splash pool. 4. Keep them active! Swimming is a form of fitness, so make sure they are still getting up the heart rate and being mobile to make sure those muscles are ready for the warmer months. See more

09.01.2022 Carnival season is fast approaching. A few tips to make the day easier especially for first timers. 1) Get Familiar: Try and get to the pool your carnival will be held out before. This helps ease the nerves and also a chance to practice.... 2) Googles: There can be often tears or panic when googles fall off at a carnival, especially when diving. Test the googles with dives to make sure all ok. Not recommended to get a brand new pair on the day. 3) Relax: There is lots of waiting around during the day. So bring a book or something to keep you busy whilst waiting for your race. Light snacks are good too. 4) Eat Well: Have a good meal the night before and eat small meals throughout the day. Drinks lots and stay hydrated. Not every child is going to win their race, but the most important thing is that they have fun, make their own PBs, enjoy and participate. Good luck to all students for their upcoming carnivals!
09.01.2022 Morning classes are still available! Group classes, or learn to swim. Bookings via [email protected]
08.01.2022 As our summer season comes to an end, and we wrap up our outdoor lessons weve had a pretty amazing 6 months!! Weve had 10 kids become water safe, multiple kids compete in their first swimming carnivals, 1st/2nd/3rd ribbons, school rep selection, lots of smiles (only a few tears) and one of our youngest start swimming alone with a back float - before 2. Thank you to all our loyal parents and kids. We look forward to seeing you when the weather warms up again!
08.01.2022 Swimming Carnival Season is not far away for most 9+ primary school kids. This is the time to start preparing with your swim schools or instructors for the carnival. Try to visit the pool where the carnival is being held for first timers - as swimming 50m for the first time can be daunting.... Also if buying a new pair of goggles, now is the time to start making sure they fit well. Not every swimmer is going to be the best BUT each child can still have a fun time at the carnivals by participating for their school houses, and maybe even get a ribbon!
07.01.2022 What a busy 2 weeks of Intensive Classes. With over 100 lessons taught, I did my best to teach as many kids as possible - I think my skin thought I belonged in the water. Weve had 2 kids become water safe, and some incredible progress with other students.... Thank you to everyone who has swam with myself and Daniel. Apologies to anyone who I couldnt teach, or get back to. Term lessons will resume in Feb. Thanks Adam
07.01.2022 What are Holiday Intensives? I often get asked this question - especially during the summer holiday break. There are 3 main reasons to do these types of swimming lessons.... 1. Catch up There is no set age when kids have to be swimming, however most children if theyve had regular all year round lessons should be swimming around 3.5-4.5yrs old. 2. Stroke Correction Once kids are water safe and have moved onto strokes, some children just arent clicking with certain mechanics of swimming - be it breathing, kicking or diving. Its also sometimes can be used as practice/prep for swimming carnivals in term 1. 3. General Lessons Summer Holidays are long. So with some swim schools running intensives for 2-3 weeks. Its not uncommon for beginners to learn to swim during this period. Also a few lessons for regular swimmers allow them to continue their progress and not forget their skills from during the term. Our classes are running for the next 2 weeks. Mobile lessons in the morning and from our private pool (Vaucluse) in the afternoon. Spaces are filling up quickly! Contact Adam on 0402149799
05.01.2022 We are happy to announce that we have launched a new website for our swim school. Bookings Requests can be made at www.aquakidz.com.au
05.01.2022 *When To Start Swimming Lessons* Probably the most asked question I receive. The best advice I can give is, the early you introduce your child to water - THE BETTER. Classes from 6-17 months. Mums/Dads group classes (5 kids +), are a fun activity for you your child and a great way to introduce them to water - other than the bath. In these classes they begin swimming on their tummies, backs, water games, being confident around a pool, and going under water. ... Classes from 18 months+. These classes tend to be in groups of 2-3 children. Similar skills as above but they are able to do a lot more - go in the water when prompted, monkey around the edge, climbing out, start learning to float, and swim with a back float or pool noodle without being held. The earlier you can introduce a shower to your child, the easier it will be to get them under water. Get them used to water over their face for short intervals or end the bath with a cup over the head. Be sure not to limit water over over their face, just to wash the shampoo out. Happy Swimming!! - Adam 0402149799
