19.01.2022 Did you know irritated/burning eyes is not always because of the chlorine in your pool! A person’s body has a pH between 7.2 and 7.8, so if the pool water goes outside this range then swimmers will start to feel irritation of their eyes and skin. Ensuring the pH is kept between 7.2 7.8 will both ensure the chlorine’s germ-killing power is unlocked while also helping to reduce skin and eye irritation.

17.01.2022 How does rain effect my pool? Rain delivers algae spores and debris to pool water and it is these things that cause problems. Algae spores are usually present in the air. When it rains, spores and other material in the air above a swimming pool get washed into the water. Other spores on surrounding vegetation or on the ground, along with other debris, also wash into the pool water.... All of this material reacts with your pool chlorine and so reduces the active chlorine level in the water. As if that’s not bad enough, when the organic matter decomposes it provides fuel for the growth and reproduction of algae and other simple organisms in the water. Combined with a little sunlightespecially in warm water the conditions become ripe for accelerated growth of algae in the pool. What do you need to do? Keep your sanitiser level up in the proper range and adding algicide promptly will help keep your pool looking great during our wet season!

13.01.2022 Getting your pool Summer-Ready! #summervibes #poollife #summeriscoming #nqlivin #queensland #swimmingpool ##motivated #drinksbythepool 1. Check all your equipment works:... First of all, check the pump and filtration systems are working perfectly. Check the skimmer basket doesn’t have any cracks that could potentially lead to debris in the pool. Next, check the pool lighting and see if the bulbs need replacing. You may also need to upgrade or replace any pool equipment pumps, drain covers, pool covers, brushes, vacuums, leaf scoops or skimmers. 2. Keep your pool full In fact, top it up regularly! If the level drops below the bottom of the skimmer, the pump will run without water, and be damaged as a result 3. Use a bit of elbow grease: Spring is a great time to get back into cleaning your pool, particularly if you’ve been neglecting it when the weather’s been rough. Clean out the baskets and make sure you degrease your filter a clogged filter prevents the water from flowing freely and wears out the pump. Make sure you scrub the pool walls (especially if you have grout), by using baking soda and a sponge, or a pool tile cleaner. Don’t use household cleaners, as those chemicals aren’t meant to be swum in. Give the surrounding areas a good clean too. This prevents any surrounding dirt and debris from getting in the pool when it’s not covered. 4. Balance your chemicals: The most important part about getting your pool Summer-ready, is balancing the water chemicals. You should test the following: Alkalinity: 80-150ppm. Test alkalinity before adjusting pH levels, as pH will remain constant if you’ve got the right alkalinity levels. pH: this should sit between 7.4 and 7.6 Calcium hardness: between 200-250ppm. Stabiliser level: it should be sitting at a minimum Algaecide: add algaecide to your water to eliminate algae growth, particularly if your pool has been neglected during the cooler months. Chlorine: this should be sitting between 2 and 4ppm. 5. Shock it: Shocking your pool, by adding an oxidising compound or mixture to the water, will help to destroy chloramines and other undesirables that build up. This should be done every couple of weeks to keep it looking pristine. Do this by adding Shock N Clear 6. Jump in! Even if it’s not at your perfect temperature yet, after you’ve finished the 5 steps, you’ll definitely deserve a swim in your beautiful Summer-ready pool!

02.01.2022 How an overflowing pool can affect pool chemistry Your pool water cleanliness depends on a very specific balance of chemicals. When your pool overflows, your pool becomes diluted and throws the chemical balance off. One of the first things you need to do is test your chemicals and get those numbers balanced fast, before yucky nuisances like algae threaten to take over. But before you do that, you will have to get your water levels back down to normal.... When a pool overflows, it’s important to remove excess water quickly so that you can restore the chemistry levels. But if your yard is so flooded that it is still flowing in and out of your inground pool, you may have to do the best you can and then wait for your yard to absorb some of it. Also, if your pool now has a lot of debris and dirt, it is a good idea to lower it a little more than usual so you can add clean water later. Rain brings with it not only acid, but also leaves, debris and algae spores. When these things get washed into the pool, it’s important to remove them ASAP before they become a problem. See more
