25.01.2022 Since 1998 it has been a legal requirement for all new hot water system installations as well as replacement systems to be fitted with a tempering valve. The tempering valve mixes hot water from the hot water unit with cold water, & delivers it to your bathroom outlets at a maximum temperature of 50c. This removes the possibility of young children or the elderly from being scalded when turning hot taps on. As with all valves, tempering valves have a working lifespan - generally 5 years. Signs that your tempering valve needs replacing include water which is too hot or too cold coming from outlets, & hot & cold water intermittently coming from outlets. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms then give us a ring and we can test your tempering valve & get you sorted.

24.01.2022 "Flushable" wipes should in fact not be flushed down any septic system. Toilet paper breaks down very quickly in the system. Wipes, on the other hand do not. They get wrapped around components in treatment plants which causes damage & blockages, and clog together in sewer systems & cause blockages. Flushable wipes should be treated like nappies & sanitary products & disposed of in the rubbish bin

10.01.2022 In general, your hot water service will have a working life of between 12-15 years. We do replacement installations with either Thermann or Rheem Everhot units which carry a 10 year cylinder warranty. Stainless steel units are a great option for applications where salt water spray or tank water is an issue. These tanks cost more upfront but hold up much longer in these situations & will save you money over time.

02.01.2022 The PTR valve on your hot water unit should let out a small amount of water via the drainage pipe when your unit is heating - this is normal. If however you notice that there is water constantly flowing from the drainage pipe, then your PTR valve is faulty & needs to be replaced. It is extremely important to have this done by a licenced plumber as it is crucial to have the correct PTR valve installed for your specific unit.
