22.01.2022 We are proud to support Melbourne Water with the important work of keeping our rivers and creeks healthy. At the moment we are conducting works to upgrade the Lillydale Lake Wetland which is presently not performing to stormwater treatment quality standards. This is due to inadequate vegetation cover as the wetland is too deep for plants to survive. As part of the stage one works, we have completed a cofferdam (draining the wetland) to create a dry working environment so that the reshaping of the base with machinery to correct water depths can be carried out safely. #wetlands #conservation #waterindustry

19.01.2022 Aqua Metro Services is delighted to lead the Melbourne Water Dights Falls fishway entry structure upgrade. The works include construction of a rock bank to support native fish migration and fish populations in the Yarra River. The upgrade provides a new, less turbulent second entry access point. The upgrade will increase the number of native fishes using the fishway and ensure during high flows in the Yarra River the fish can still migrate. ... Many of Victorias native freshwater and coastal fish species need to migrate during their lifecycle.

19.01.2022 Another recent project Aqua Metro Services is pleased to lead on, is the Melbourne Water Western Treatment Plant Main Southern Carrier West Renewal. The works involve replacing 960 lineal meters of channel floor control joints sealant to continue supplying a secure and reliable water supply for the growing western suburbs of Melbourne.

19.01.2022 We are working with Melbourne Water to rehabilitate the Linda Crescent Stormwater Drain using an environmentally friendly Geokrete liner. These works will ensure the continued reliability of this asset well into the future. Relining of the stormwater drain is now complete. 19.01.2022 On behalf of Melbourne Water, AMS has now completed the remediation work at Fulton Road Retarding Basin and Wurundjeri Wetlands. The retarding basin and wetlands are integral to Melbourne Waters stormwater asset network. The retarding basin is responsible for filtering and treatment local stormwater before it enters the larger network. By completing the remediation works, Melbourne Water is able to ensure the retarding basin remains operational for another 50 years. The remediation works included construction of the access track, upgrade of the weir rockwork, construction of a concrete hard base and pipe realignment and installation of a new headwall.

18.01.2022 The Syndal Valve Complex, located just off High Street Road in Glen Waverley, interconnects two water supply mains, M132 (1150mm diameter) and M22 (600mm diameter) via a 600mm diameter cross connection. Aqua Metro Services is proud to be carrying out work on behalf of Melbourne Water to improve the valve functionality and control by making modifications to existing pipework, installing two new valves and replacing a flow meter. 17.01.2022 Fulton Road Retarding Basin and Wurundjeri Wetland is located in Blackburn South. Retarding basins and wetlands play a number of important roles from providing wildlife habitat, filtering stormwater that enters our rivers and creeks while offering access to green spaces for the community. This recreational area is very popular amongst local residents as Wurundjeri Walking Trail surrounds the wetland perimeter. ... On behalf of Melbourne Water we have commenced work on rectification of the control structures in both the sediment pond and the wetland outlet pit. All these modifications will assist in optimising the wetland performance by reducing nitrogen levels. These works will ensure the continued reliability of this asset well into the future.

16.01.2022 Back when we could have meetings in person at the office! This seems like an eternity ago with stage four lockdown restrictions taking hold here in Melbourne. With the majority of our team working remotely, it is so important that their well-being is considered during this challenging period. We understand that our team have different remote working arrangements, some have school aged children at home and are juggling work with home schooling, so its important to ensure as... much as possible they are still achieving a work/ life balance. In this lock down period, aside from our virtual meetings we have implemented initiatives such as Quarantini drinks over Teams on Friday and three-minute videos looking back on our achievements to help boost staff morale and motivation. Above all, Aqua Metro passionately believe that good people and strong teams build successful projects. We are committed to helping our people to improve their well-being as it results in better work, health and relationships. In the near future, we intend to run well-being workshops based on themes such as Importance of Happiness and Wellbeing, Meaning, purpose and core values, Gratitude and Positive Speak and Language at Work.

15.01.2022 On behalf of Melbourne Water, Aqua Metro Services has completed rehabilitation a section of the Pascoe Vale Branch Sewer. To combat this challenge, we have relined this section of the sewer with the innovative #Geokrete technology. Melbourne Water had determined this section of the Pascoe Vale Sewer to have a predicted nominal remaining asset life of 1-5 years. The Geokrete Mortar based lining system bonds to the host structure leaving no annular space. This system can be i...nstalled as a fully structural standalone liner to further extend the life and structural performance of the asset. The Geokrete technology is a precision proprietary application system, built to spec for a high level of performance, as well as allowing for relatively short construction durations. With access to the manholes located at the busy intersection of Pascoe Vale Rd and Bell St in Strathmore it meant that works had to be undertaken at night. In addition, works were conducted in confined space conditions which included jet washing the existing pipe, patch repair, treatment of corroded reinforcement and lining the sewer with the Geokrete geopolymer.

14.01.2022 In the final part of our interview with Project Engineer, Mariah, we discuss diversity in the civil engineering space and her key advice for anyone wanting to start a career in engineering. Q. What are your thoughts on diversity in the civil engineering industry? In my Masters degree, I researched Gender Diversity in Engineering, and it turns out the industry is still quite gender biased. I have not experienced this at Aqua Metro and thanks to my fantastic experience, it wa...s very humbling completing the research. Today, particularly in the construction area of civil engineering, females are still outnumbered, however this is evolving. We are seeing more women in leadership roles which encourages the next generation of female engineers. My research showed that the industry benefits greatly from a variety of peoples input with a mixture of experiences and values. Q. What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start a career in engineering? Get that foot in the door! You never know who could be that connection. Its important to start creating a network for your career. If you can work part time in an engineering related firm this is the best start. Stay motivated and take advantage of all the knowledge others have to offer and ask questions.
