11.01.2022 A St George police officer says there's been overwhelming support for a music video promoting water safety, after a near-drowning at a local weir. Jack Taylor ...Weir operator SunWater commissioned the song "Respect the Water" after a number of young men were pinned underwater while trying to rescue a boy who was swimming near the gates. Police Liaison Officer Adam Osborne says water has been part of the culture for thousands of years. "Aunties and uncles used to play in the river and now the younger generation do too, but infrastructure's probably changed over the years," he says. "It's unpredictable as well, with flooding and gates opening and not knowing when they're going to be opened."
