05.01.2022 DRIVERS HEADING FOR RAINBOW BEACH, FRASER ISLAND (K'GARI) TOLD TO BEWARE OF TIDES WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Very high tides expected over Easter They will a...ffect K'gari (Fraser Island), Teewah, Rainbow beaches Mudlo Rocks at Rainbow Beach is impassable. Expect fines if you drive on dunes Very high tides are set to strike K'gari (Fraser Island) along with Teewah and Rainbow beaches, prompting authorities to warn drivers to be aware of rising waters. The Queensland Parks And Wildlife Service say "two very high tides" are due on Good Friday, at 7.45am and again at 8.15pm at the two beaches. Senior Ranger Colin Lawton says those planning to set up camp are likely to find the beach impassable for about two hours after the high tide. "Easter high tides will also cause difficult beach driving conditions along sections of the Great Sandy National Park, including beaches at Cooloola and K'gari," he said. "And due to recent beach erosion, Mudlo Rocks at the Rainbow Beach entrance is impassable at all times, and is likely to remain impassable over Easter." Mudlo Rocks is a notorious spot for wrecking four-wheel-drives as the tide comes in. Mr Lawton also warns that driving on the dunes damages wildlife, vegetation, and animal nests. What's more, those caught will face fines. One driver was recently fined $500 then ordered to pay another $250 in court costs for driving on the dunes.
