09.01.2022 Mount Gambier is extremely fortunate to host the Generations in Jazz (GIJ) festival held each year over 3 days at the start of May with Jazz fans travelling from all over Australia to our region seeing the local population swell. Bringing together both students and professionals, the festival celebrates their passion for Jazz as they are immersed in an exciting weekend of competition, performance and education by some of the industry greats, led by James Morrison himself. Fo...r some schools, their music department work towards the festival throughout the whole school year, with music charts for the ‘set pieces’ available the year before - competition is fierce for a placing amongst the best of the best. As James himself has said ‘It isn’t often 5000 audience members are all Jazz musicians themselves’ needless to say, the atmosphere is electric. Covid-19 has meant the last two years have been unavoidably cancelled, however on International Jazz Day this year, the Generations in Jazz Board announced the festival dates for next year as 6th to 8th May 2022. Accommodation is usually booked out in Mount Gambier and surrounding districts up to a year or more in advance with some having to travel considerable distances to attend. Aquifer Blue can accommodate up to 10 guests and is just a ten minute drive away from the event.
