25.01.2022 Here's a video you may not have seen by Louise Harvey featuring the Disturbed Earth (aka Dean Richards) remix of Stellia's Impeller.
23.01.2022 We have lost one of our most magnificent voices; not just her musical voice, but her voice of kindness, intelligence, commitment and wisdom.
23.01.2022 The wonderful Louise Harvey discusses the value of art and technology with the equally wonderful Celia Moriarty.
21.01.2022 So great to hear that this brilliant project is moving forward, albeit remotely. Kudos to TSO and the singer/songwriters.
20.01.2022 Some truly beautiful playing from Jeremy Meaden at Dean Richards' Robert Fripp celebration. The cornet is a tragically underutilised instrument
20.01.2022 Finally this unique and special performance is available to stream again. Sweet dreams.
20.01.2022 https://aquilinemusic.com/d-a-m-n The Depository of Musical Names has a new home at the slowly-being-upgraded mediadogs website. Once you have a name, it'll be easy to start a band and be Huge.
19.01.2022 Keep an ear out for a new project featuring the wonderful Invictus Quartet! In the meantime, check out this performance for the Hush Foundation. So fantastic.
18.01.2022 You know them as the irrepressible purveyors of ecstatic pop wonders ("Itchin' on a Photograph"), but now their awesomeness is officially ratified.
17.01.2022 The TSO are legends. Their support of the Hush Foundation is just one example.
16.01.2022 Word of the week: Doit. It's the sound a trumpet makes when the player glides upwards in pitch at the end of a note, beloved in jazz, latin and funk. If you happen to be a trumpeter, here's how to do it (pardon the pun).
14.01.2022 I love nothing better than to be blown away by something that's totally out of my genre. This album by Black Midi is my pick for 2019 (so far - I'm a bit behind!). Guitar slashing that hits you in the gut, totally unexpected vocal gyrations from Geordie Greep (not on this track - I think it's a different vocalist who reminds me a little of Karl Hyde from Underworld), and utterly gorgeous, truly musical drumming from Morgan Simpson in ever-changing arrangements that make me think of a garage-rock version of Hiatus Kaiyote. In this video, the original song occupies the first three and a bit minutes. The remixes are even crazier, but in their way more generic.
10.01.2022 New from Alexander Nettelbeck!
09.01.2022 https://disturbedearth.bandcamp.com/album/ambient Dean Richards, aka Disturbed Earth, has remixed two of my tracks, neither of which are even released yet! One is from a forthcoming piano/string quartet/treatments project, the other is a traditional Frippertronics-style two-tape piano improvisation, which hopefully will also become the focus of another future mediadogs release. Don't worry, though, there's no spoiler - Dean's versions are quite different to the originals and proudly stand on their own! Thanks for the long-form beauty of these reinterpretations, Dean.
09.01.2022 Great to see this wondrous work available in full form. But will you have to wake up every few hours to change the DVD???
08.01.2022 With Celia Moriarty, Dean Richards, Langley Rowbottom
05.01.2022 Thanks Annie Hardy for this shot of me pretending to know what I'm doing at the Guildford Family Hotel with Celia Moriarty, Dean Richards and more, in tribute to Robert Fripp.
02.01.2022 Our friend and collaborator Disturbed Earth has a new album. "What else is new?" you say. The guy releases albums as frequently as most of us release hot dinners. But they are consistently awesome, and yet this one is a refreshingly noisy work recorded in the charming Mooltan House, where Dean was staying to check out the choir I sing in run by Geoffrey Williams. Amazingly, they were recorded in single takes with no edits.
02.01.2022 The Virtual Soul Choir's second project is finished! Kudos to composers George Williams and Geoffrey Williams, choir leader Geoffrey, editor George, animator Paige Duggan, Baha'i supporters and all the lovely choristers.
01.01.2022 Friends, I just thought I'd mention that BandCamp are doing their little bit for struggling artists by waiving their revenue share on sales this Friday from midnight Pacific Time (that's 5pm Australian Eastern Time). https://mediadogs.bandcamp.com
