25.01.2022 Last night on Darug Land, in the silence of Granville Town Hall, Hussein Kahil invoked love. We held our breath, listening in solidarity, taking 'nafas' within his voice. 'Beirut' is the name of the song, composed by Lebanese Diva Jahida Wehbe, with poetry by Lameea Abbas Amara. Hussein is part of Dandana, Arab Theatre Studio’s music ensemble. He connects to Beirut with this music and the lyrics that speak of the city's beauty, created as a work of art. The song has a special place in his heart, connecting him to Jahida's loving devotion to her composing and singing. 40days after shocking death, injury and loss in Beirut, this is a special part of our Arbaeen remembrance. 17.01.2022 We can’t wait to share with you the sublime performance we witnessed on Saturday Night in the live recording of a tribute concert to Beirut and Lebanon’s musicians. From the Sydney Conservatorium of Music to The Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music. The Sydney Conservatorium’s String Orchestra performed an eclectic repertoire for more than two hours, led by Maestro Roger Benedict, with soloists Olivia Hans-Rosenbaum, Dominic Azzi and Tim Yu gifting us masterful rend...itions. Guest pianist Rami Khalife's Requiem for Beirut was exhilarating in its emotional musicality, and cultural icon Marcel Khalife’s presence, voice and lyrics grounded us in a moment that can only be described as exceptional. You will be able to book tickets to the Digital Concert very soon. Watch this space. Here are some notes from our small audience - "We came out of our numbness to the concert reluctantly, as numb became a comfortable covid state. But what we found was healing and a new awakening of all our senses." "The curation and pacing of the program inspired awe and hope." Rami Khalife’s wondrous composition 'Requiem for Beirut' elicited intense physical and emotional responses. The orchestra had a brilliant dialogic engagement with his tsunami of chords and melodic narrative. That the 'Requiem' was preceded by the quiet spirituality of 'The Cloud of Unknowing' made it even more powerful, with Dominic Azzi lead violinist, composed by Gerard Brophy. This significant event is an Arab Theatre Studio initiative with the support of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in solidarity with Beirut after the catastrophic explosion on 4 August. #beirutsydney #beirutlebanonsydney #artistsforbeirut #sydneyconforlebanesecon #beirutsydneymusicians #arabtheatrestudioforbeirut Sydney Conservatorium of Music, The University of Sydney Lebanese National Conservatory Marcel Khalife Rami Khalife Dominic Azzi Roger Benedict Marcel KhalifeKhalife Marcel Michel Khalife
