09.01.2022 Salute to the Legends: here is legendary horseman Ian Francis and the famous Star Carousel, the mare Francis once described as 'one of the greats'. Carousel (S...tar Black Minstrel - Glenna's Daughter) won Brisbane Royal, Moonbi Cowhorse of Australia and won the 1987 Cloncurry Stockmens Challenge (by a 12 point margin). According to Ian, her dry work run at Cloncurry is still considered by many good judges thirty three years later as one of the best they have ever seen. She was the consummate cowhorse, as clever on her cattle as you could dream of with that remarkable 'sixth sense' that only the greats possess. The Glenna family was developed by master breeder Ventry McLennen at Grafton and it produced such famous competitors as Bruce McNaughton's brilliant open mare Music and Maxine Brooks beautiful all-rounder Dark Glen. We have carefully developed and competed this family for almost 40 years and we remain deeply honoured that a mare of Carousels brilliance and status has been part of our family and our breeding program for so long. Carousel was retired as a 5YO on Ian's advice to make the most of her genetics and we are pleased we did. While we could wonder what else she might have been capable of winning, she produced sires and top competitors including N Musicman (Doc's Spinifex) N Gurindji (Docs Freckles Oak) N Yothu Yindi (Docs Freckles Oak) After she had been retired for three years from the broodmare band she finally produced her only filly, Nonda Dottie Papunya, dam of the exciting young campdrafter Nonda Last Frontier (four open wins in four months) and Nonda Utopia, our 2020 Nutrien Sale nomination. She lived until she was a remarkable 31, looked after by us like a Queen until the very end. She is buried under a mighty old gumtree that is as majestic as the mare herself.

We have done stories about Sinclair Hill (our top polo player for many years), but not about his polo pony stud farm, T...erlings, Moree, N.S.W At the Quirindi Polo Tournament in 1970, 35 of the polo ponies played were bred at Tellings and 24 were A Grade.
