24.01.2022 6 people from our town. 10 minutes. 10 images. This Sunday, the Friends of Araluen present Celebrating Living Histories in the Witchetty's Artspace. Every life is remarkable and every individual has a story. Come and hear tales of living in Central Australia from some of the unique characters that live here from 2pm. Entry is a $5 donation at the door and a bar with snacks will be available.



24.01.2022 Tex Perkins has played a key role in Australian music and he's coming to the Araluen Arts Centre this January. Tex Perkins has had a career that ranges from Thug's experimental punktonica, to lilting, dark country of Dark Horses, to the snarling pub rock of Beasts of Bourbon, to the evocative soundscapes of The Cruel Sea. Now Tex has teamed up for an exciting new and long overdue collaboration with Matt Walker for a night of blues swamp-groove and a few Cruel Sea covers.... 23.01.2022 Due to ongoing travel restrictions, Urzila Carlson’s ’Token African' show scheduled to take place at the Araluen Theatre in Alice Springs on Tuesday 9 March will unfortunately no longer be going ahead. All pre-purchased tickets will be refunded, excluding booking fees. The Araluen Box Office staff will be in contact to organise refunds. We have a small team working on this so please be patient as we work through our list.

23.01.2022 The Araluen Arts Centre acknowledges the passing of Kunmanara Lewis a renowned artist who across the course of 35 years created ground-breaking sculptural works with Tjanpi Desert Weavers, been a master carver with Maruku Arts and a painter through Ernabella Arts. She leaves a significant legacy through the many projects she was instrumental in and the Collections she is represented in including the Araluen Collection. We send our deepest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.

Filmed on found 16mm film stock, Bait deals with the tensions that arise between locals and tourists in a Cornish fishing village against a back drop of second homes, short-term lets and gentrification. 17.01.2022 Artist Angus McIvor was not only a finalist in this year's Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award but also a subject! McIvor painted John Strehlow, son of the famous linguist and recorder of Arrernte sacred ceremonies, TGH Strehlow. Meanwhile, fellow Alice Springs painter Felicity Gorman took the opportunity to capture Angus. McIvor posed with both works at the recent announcement ceremony held in the Araluen Galleries.... 15.01.2022 Marina Strocchi is renowned for working from surrounding natural environments, her home and still life. During an Arts Fellowship to Brooklyn and Manhattan, she was faced with the built environment on an incredible scale. The sheer mass and density of life and hope, the walls of repetitive windows, towering over the humans who made them, is reflected in these her new exhibition, New York New Work, on now at the Araluen Arts Centre. Visit the Araluen Arts Centre Tuesday through to Sunday from 10am.



13.01.2022 The end of the year is upon us, and we invite you to come and celebrate with us this Sunday at our Annual Art House Cinema End of Year Christmas Dinner. We will be serving a two-course buffet in the Araluen Foyer from 5:30pm before the screening of our final film for 2020, It's A Wonderful Life. Head down to the Witchetty's Artspace on Sunday 21 February to hear stories from Anna Flouris, Pat Beattie, Mary Minotti, Max O’Callaghan and Bill Davis. Entry is only $10 at the door.

Yaye's Cafe will be closed from Monday 21 December 2020 until Monday 4 January 2021, and will reopen at 6:30am, Tuesday 5 January. 09.01.2022 Join us this Saturday as Marina Strocchi presents a talk on the foundation of the Ikuntji Women's Centre at Haasts Bluff. Strocchi was the manager of a fledging art centre in 1992 and after a visit to Kintore bore witness to a special moment in time when Pintupti/Luritja women became curious about painting. Family Connections is a presentation of film footage spanning from 1993 to 1995 as well as Marina's own experience that saw the foundation of the Women's Centre which would later go on to become the internationally recognised Ikuntji Art Centre. The talk will be held in the Araluen galleries from 10:30am this Saturday.

07.01.2022 We are looking forward to hosting the judges of this year’s Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award; Marlene Rubuntja (artist), Kieran Finnane (arts writer, journalist) and Chips Mackinolty (artist) and thank them for the tremendous task of selecting the winning artworks. This year 29 entries were received from artists across the Northern Territory capturing Senior Territorians who have made a significant contribution to our community. The Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award 2020 exhibition opens to the public at 2:00pm, Friday 4 December.

07.01.2022 It's that time of year again! The Araluen Art House Cinema End of Year Christmas Dinner is on this Sunday. We will be serving a two course buffet dinner in the Araluen foyer from 5:30pm, followed by the screening of our final film for 2020: It's A Wonderful Life. There are limited tickets available to the dinner at $35 per person, while cinema tickets can be purchased at regular Art House Screening prices. All dinner tickets must be pre-purchased for catering purposes by calling the Box Office on 8951 1122.

05.01.2022 Amy Hetherington - Comedy is on tour in the NT and it's nearly time for Alice Springs to join the fun. The team at Gove FM loved her show last week saying "Amy is an energetic, engagingly enthusiastic, yarn spinner who obviously loves human beings. This make spending an hour with her one of life's many entertaining pleasures."
