24.01.2022 We like our return visitors to Araluen Park Cottages, - the Black-faced Monarchs usually turn up around October / November, and then head off about February. Nice to see this one in one of our rain forest gullies this morning. At Lakes Entrance, 9th October 2021.
24.01.2022 Just before 9:00am this morning, and after substantial rain over the last couple of days, Lake Bunga opened up to the sea. These pics taken about an hour later. At Lake Bunga, 5th September 2021.
23.01.2022 One of a breeding pair of Sacred Kingfishers. (Whilst we see these birds frequently on our property, these particular birds are elsewhere in Gippsland). 17th November 2020.

23.01.2022 Walking the dog last night we came across 4 Glossy Black Cockatoos drinking from a puddle on the side of the road. Didn't have the camera, so did the same walk tonight, Watched patiently from a distance as the two pairs came into nearby trees and then came down to drink. 18.01.2022 #threatenedspeciesday2021 today - whilst there are many threatened species listed in East Gippsland, these two in particular are of special interest to us at Araluen Park Cottages. We have had a long interest in the Gippsland Lakes Burrunan Dolphins, and more recently the Glossy Black Cockatoos that live nearby in the Colquhoun Forest and Lake Tyers State Park.
