24.01.2022 As we come out of social isolation our pets suddenly find themselves spending a lot of time alone again and some of them will struggle with the transition. There are plenty of things you can do to help them cope just ask us! Zylkene, Adaptil, and Feliway are non-prescription calming agents that help many pets. Some animals do need prescription medications for high anxiety but for some animals a natural product is sufficient. ... Adaptil for dogs and Feliway for cats are pheromones that calm your anxious pet in times of anxiety. Zylkene contains a milk protein derived molecule that acts as a low-key calming agent without any sedation. These products usually need to be started at least 3-4 days before an anxiety inducing event because they are so gentle. 05.01.2022 Winter Chills getting your pets down? Winter can be tough on some pets, particularly when it comes to joints! Old age arthritis (or osteoarthritis) is very common in dogs and cats. Arthritis is a progressive and painful joint disease that many animals suffer in silence. We know that 1 in 5 adult dogs suffer from osteoarthritis and 80% of dogs over the age of eight have arthritis. And while cats are great at concealing pain, over 61% of cats over the age of six have ...radiographic signs of arthritis in at least one joint. Arthritis often affects the hips, knees, shoulders and elbows and in cats, arthritis in the spine is also common. Most dogs and cats are very stoic creatures and tend to mask signs of pain. Some dogs may show lameness, but cats with arthritis often just sleep more and stop grooming themselves. Signs that your pet is suffering from arthritis may include: Reluctance to walk, climb stairs, jump or play Limping/lameness Lagging behind on walks; Pain or stiffness when getting up or down Yelping when touched A change in personality (aggression when normally good-natured) Licking the affected joints Sleeping a lot Not grooming as much as when younger Dont worry there are plenty of things we can do to help Come in to any one of our clinics and chat to our lovely staff about some of the things you can do to help your pet this winter!
