25.01.2022 COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update Dear all, When, in March this year, we closed all our events, the symbolism of that impacted everyone in one way or another. Whilst we knew it was coming, that first Saturday without a single parkrun event anywhere in the world was a moment that most of us could never have imagined would ever happen. Within just a few weeks, of course, many of us went from thinking parkrun will always be there, every week, for everyone, to thinking it would nev...er come back, ever. So, as much as closing our events was a huge wake-up call that we aren’t invincible, the reopening of parkrun New Zealand is proof that we can all get through this challenge. We’re pleased to confirm therefore, that following on from last week’s update, parkrun New Zealand will be reopening on Saturday 4 July, representing a fantastic step toward the full return of parkrun events around the world. I know it will also lift the spirits of parkrunners everywhere. It’s important to remember though that we still have 21 parkrun countries patiently waiting for their own circumstances to improve such that their events can return. We continue to monitor the global situation, are considering our position in every single country, and will update you all every Week as things move forward. Thank you for being so patient and understanding, and, most of all, for believing in the parkrun family. We are getting through this, together.
25.01.2022 Ok everyone we really are unsure as to when parkrun will be up and happening again. Headquarters have said that at this stage parkrun will not happen in Australia until ALL Australian parkrun’s can open....we need to remember that some parkruns regularly get hundreds of parkrunners every week...so it maybe a while. It was great this week to have a chat with Ararat parkrun’s course record holder, Mark Thompson. Mark had a great idea that we should post on here a picture of ...our runs just so as we don’t lose our wonderful close community. We know a lot of you are still out there doing your walks/runs. Let’s encourage each other so as when COVID19 restrictions are lifted we will still feel we belong, and we still may have some fitness (if you don’t have any fitness left you will still be welcome at Ararat parkrun). So send Ararat parkrun a photo whenever you remember to snap your achievement, or you can send it to Tricia Ruthven See more
25.01.2022 Today would have been our third anniversary, although we had decided to cancel today’s parkrun (pre COVID19) in respect of Anzac Day.
23.01.2022 Another very committed Ararat parkrunner who has been focused on improving his health during covid19. Nathan Bendelle well done on your unofficial PB
23.01.2022 Here is an extract from this week's announcement. "Around the rest of Australia, Saturday saw the largest number of parkrun events and participants since March. 7,359 walkers, joggers, runners and volunteers took part at 61 events across the ACT, Northern Territory, Western Australia and Tasmania. The remainder of the month will see the reopening of almost 150 parkruns and junior parkruns across South Australia and Queensland on 21 and 28 November respectively. In Victoria,... parkrun is in discussions with parkrun event teams to review the density requirements in preparation for a re-start." Fingers crossed there will be an announcement for Victoria after the 22nd Nov. When parkrun returns to Ararat we will need to follow the Covid19 parkrun guidelines. We will also need people to put their hand up to volunteer. Ararat parkrun can’t happen without at least 5 volunteers every week and if we are over 50 participants we need a 2nd barcode scanner by the new regulations. Stay safe and keep exercising. See more
21.01.2022 COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update Dear all, Over the last few months we’ve attempted to keep things as simple as possible, to focus on the critical tasks required, and to provide clarity around our decisions. This week we’d like to take the opportunity to revisit part of our strategy for reopening parkrun. As countries relax their respective lockdown restrictions we find situations where certain events could operate (legally and safely) but are having to wait for other events (t...hat could be many thousands of miles away) to be in the same position. For example, in Poland many (but not all) parkrun events have attendance records someway short of the 150 participant limit currently allowed by their Government. Some states of Australia have relaxed restrictions such that parkrun could return, whilst this isn’t the case in other states. The Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, and the Falkland Islands may be considered technically able to start, but the UK as a whole is some way from it being appropriate to relaunch our events. Reopening specific regions within parkrun countries brings with it many complexities, not least the need to understand more localised public health guidance, respond accordingly, and ensure that we don’t create issues for neighbouring regions. As such, at this time, our policy remains that we will only open parkrun events where we can safely and appropriately open every event in that country. We would particularly like to thank those events waiting patiently, and to assure them all that we are mindful of their situations and will continue to review our position on this as time progresses. We are also being asked, across the UK, Ireland, and Australia, whether junior parkrun events (2k events on Sundays for those aged 4 to14) could reopen before the Saturday 5k events. This is something we’ve looked at closely and, whilst we wouldn’t rule anything out, it’s unlikely that this is something we would do. Again, there would be many things to consider, and we understand how children are much less vulnerable to the disease, but we know that for every 100 children in attendance at junior events there are around 110 adults (volunteering, spectating, walking or running). Also, in the UK for example, there are nearly 300,000 children (aged 4 to 14) registered to Saturday 5k events, who could switch to junior events, and a significant increase in participants could have a hugely detrimental effect on what is a delicate operating model responsible for safeguarding very young children. Thanks, as always, for your patience, understanding, and support. We continue to monitor the situation globally, and are more confident by the day that parkrun will return across all parkrun countries. We are getting through this, together,
21.01.2022 Well maybe it was a good thing we are still in hiatus due to COVID19. It would have been a cold wet parkrun this morning at Ararat. This weekend should also have been Run Wonderland in the Grampians (a weekend we get a lot of tourists). A few were still at Alexandra gardens this morning, fighting fit

18.01.2022 Ok everyone let’s make this a post where you can post pictures of your runs/walks tomorrow. We’d all love to see where you are running/walking, and what distances you are covering....
15.01.2022 Our beautiful parkrun, Alexandra Gardens, is looking beautiful. Here are some lovely photos taken by local Joan Studd
13.01.2022 3 years ago today, 22/04/2017, Ararat parkrun launched. We had no idea what we were doing, but we bumbled our way through. We should all be very proud of what we have built, we are always applauded by the many tourists we get as being a super friendly parkrun. We won't be celebrating our birthday this year due to the break in parkrun's worldwide. Of course the break is compulsory and a very much needed break to help combat the spread of COVID19. We have had word from parkrun HQ that all parkruns will remain closed at this stage until at least the end of May. Just think of how wonderful it will be when we can gather together again on a Saturday morning at 8am. Everyone look after yourself and your precious family.
13.01.2022 I think this post sums up how a lot of us are feeling about now
11.01.2022 So parkrun is not about to happen as we all know it, but to encourage people to still get out anytime during the week, parkrun has created not parkrun. Have a look at this link to see if it’s something you’d like to do. This is only a fill in, not a permanent replacement of parkrun. Ararat parkrun will be back as soon as HQ allows it. https://blog.parkrun.com/au/2020/06/10/notparkrun-is-here/
10.01.2022 We are excited to confirm that parkrun events in Tasmania will reopen on 17 October. For a complete update on the status of each state and territory within Australia click here http://parkrun.me/gvsqf #loveparkrun

07.01.2022 The Victorian government has this FREE website with heaps of workouts, yoga, dance etc, to keep us moving during lockdown. You can make up your own teams if you wish or do it by yourself. The workouts will be updated regularly. https://www.getactive.vic.gov.au/

05.01.2022 We are all missing Ararat parkrun so much, some of us have lost fitness and maybe even gAined a few covid kgs, while others have really committed to getting fitter/healthier. I have permission to repost this wonderful post from regular parkrunner Nicki Blackie. Huge congrats Nicki Virtual parkrun #28 would have seen me ring the bell with a PB that got me under the magical 35 minutes. So happy that I got to share my excitement with some of my parkrun family who were at the gardens at a similar time. I did not think that was possible, so never say never. Came home and rang the bell instead. Big thanks to @blizzardruncoaching and those girls who inspire me by getting out there and walking every day! Stay safe everyone and maybe our lives will be normal again soon
04.01.2022 This is an interesting read....not sure if parkrun in Victoria will go down this same way when it eventually reopens.
04.01.2022 Huge callout to these legends. Cameron Evans and kids

04.01.2022 One Saturday it will happen in Ararat again, won’t that be a great day.
03.01.2022 Ok everyone, Friday night used to be known as parkrun eve, sad that it’s still not happening but we all know that it will eventually be up and running again. This post is the place for you all to post your selfies of your runs/walks that you are all going to complete this week
