22.01.2022 This is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in life, including leaving a city I was born and raised in and spent 23 years of my life in! Ararat has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in life. Talk about a big big leap of faith! It’s resulted in relationships I’ll carry forward and cherish for the rest of my life. As hard as this is, it’s time for me to say au revoir for now and take the next step in life. Ararat and all of you here will always be very cl...ose to my heart, and I just know I will be back for a wine down or a ball real soon! Till then, cheers to friends who became family, clients who treated me like family and my work fam who had to put up with me! I can’t thank Kylie and Jess enough for giving me this opportunity to make a difference in this beautiful community of ours. It’s been an absolute pleasure watching and being a part of something that has grown into a respected and loved haven for miles in every direction! A big shout out to Em & Em for making every day filled with fun and positive vibes! I am going to terribly miss our constant yapping conversations and incessant jibber-jabber! For the time being, memes will keep us treading forwards!!! I will miss all your smiling faces and I can’t wait to see all of you again! Till then, stay strong & stay safe. Love and best always, TJ

21.01.2022 Is there a limit on buying shoes? Personally, no! Is there a limit on how much exercise is good for you before you start breaking down? 100% Click on the link to find out!... http://www.aphs.net.au/how-much-exercise-is-too-much-exerc/

20.01.2022 Could work from home become the new normal going into 2021 too? I know all of us have been thinking life is going to go back to normal soon, but we do need to have a plan B ready in case they don't. We have a few tips and tricks for you to make your work life easier and a lot more efficient! Keep scrolling...... - Invest in a good desk and chair. If you're looking for a less bulky option, which is environmental friendly as well, try handy desk (handydesk.com.au). - Come up with a routine like you would if you were working out of office. For example, log on at 9 am and make sure you log off at 5 pm. - Keep a bottle of water at your desk and make sure you keep yourself hydrated. - Add a little lunch time stroll to make sure you leave your desk and get those steps up. - Don't forget to do your desk stretches (http://www.aphs.net.au/wfh-desk-stretches/). Give us a call on 5352 5611 to book an appointment with one of our physios to have your work space set up to your needs.

19.01.2022 Do you starve yourself for 6 weeks after you’ve eaten once? Then why starve your body of the strength and conditioning it requires to keep you moving and functioning? 19.01.2022 Hello everyone! Hope all of you have been well? This is me reminding you that even though silly season is upon us, it is important to keep our bodies moving and limber! All you need is a mat, some empty space, banging beats and 15 minutes! Follow each exercise for 12 repetitions and 3 sets, with 30 second breaks in between each set and 1 minutes rest between each exercise!... Happy holidays everybody and happy moving! Best always, TJ x

14.01.2022 In continuation with our talk about muscles from last week, today we are going to talk a bit about what can we do do reduce, ease and prevent muscle cramps. Sporting drinks have been quite in trend for the last two decades, boasting of essential nutrients, electrolytes and the power to avoid dehydration. How effective are they? Would you get the same effect if you had a liter of water or say five cocktails? What is the most effective drink to re-hydrate the body and possibly ...reduce, ease and potentially prevent from muscles cramping? - Coconut water: It's a natural source of calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, and phosphorus, without the added processed sugar. - Water: Research has shown, even though water is a good and the most obvious choice when trying to rehydrate, it has no effect of reducing the occurrence of muscle cramps. It lacks the quantity of electrolytes required to balance out the loss through sweat. - Sporting drinks: Although the amount of sugar in these drinks presents as a serious concern when consumed in big amounts, research has shown that consuming these drinks during or after sport does in fact help reduce and ease muscle cramps. - Pickle juice: There is zero research backing this claim, but the theory behind drinking pickle juice for easing muscle cramps is it triggers muscle reflex which in turn shuts down the firing of neurons in the muscles. On a side note, not a bad choice of drink if you enjoy eating salt and vinegar chips! There are a lot of drink choices out there. If you are a hard trainer and would like to know what the ideal electrolyte consumption is for you, talk to a sport nutritionist. Stay hydrated every body!

07.01.2022 YOUR JOINTS CANNOT BE OUT! We are yelling this out mainly unless you've dislocated a joint, your joints CANNOT physically a, anatomically or physiologically be out. The perception of feeling lopsided or one leg being longer than the other or being twisted, rotated or feeling like a pretzel could be from muscular imbalances. ... What do we mean by muscular imbalances? One side of your body, primarily your dominant side could be stronger which could make you feel like your body is twisted. To simplify it, one side is stronger than the other, which is okay and quite frankly normal. But in summation, your joints cannot be out neither can they be put back in. In case you do have a dislocated joint, please go the ER or GP to be "put back into place". If you are feeling twisted, give us a call on 5352 5611. We will try our best to untwist you!

07.01.2022 Today we are going to bust some myths about bending from our back and consequentially, breaking them. The fact that we have movement in our spine is proof enough it was meant to move. - Myth buster number 1. YOU CANNOT BREAK YOUR BACK BY BENDING! Yes we are yelling this from the rooftops because it is 100% true. - Your back is strong and sturdy enough to take weight, impact and all sorts of misdemeanors on our part. To be specific, studies have shown our spine would require ...a force greater than 3000 Newton to break. That is equivalent to a 226 kg car crashing into a wall at 50 km/hour. To put this into perspective, there is 1 person on this entire globe to hold the record for squatting 289.21 kgs, and no it is neither one of us! - You are allowed to slouch when you sit. Wait. What? Yes, you r read correct! The problem is not in the slouching, the problem is when we decide to sit slouched on the couch for hours on end. Get up, fidget, change your posture once in a while. - You are allowed to bend forward from your back when you lift. It's called a deadlift and NO it does not cause injury to your back unless your technique is incorrect or your muscles are not strong enough to withstand the weight. Solution, a strength based program based on the expertise of your health care professional. - Last but not the least. Complete bed rest when you have back pain. Rest is good, but more dormant you get trying to protect your back, the more harm you're doing to it in the long run. Talk to your physiotherapist. There is always a scientific explanation to your experience of pain and how that can be best managed. If you have any questions or myths you've heard about back, leave us a comment below. Or better yet, give us a call on 5352 5611 to see us!

06.01.2022 Don’t forget to squeeze and lift! Pelvic floor muscles might be out of sight but they are super important muscles that should not be out of our mind! They are incredible muscles with lots of different functions. They help hold our organs up and connect to our deep tummy muscles to keep our back strong, (and yes they even help with sexual pleasure.) The easiest way to isolate these muscles is lying on your side. Imagine stopping wind and your wee. Squeeze and lift. Relaxin...g between reps is just as important as the contraction. Try holding for 5-10 seconds. Repeat until the muscle gets tired ~5-10 times. Then try doing it in different positions and develop a HABIT! When do you do your pelvic floor exercises?
