25.01.2022 A busy few days for a members with 3 separate rescues and a few storm jobs in between. Starting Saturday we assisted Ambulance Victoria with an injured knee at ...Silent Street near the Pinnacle. We responded to an incident at Mckenzie falls on Monday to assist Victoria Police and this morning we climbed a very foggy Pinnacle to rescue a walker with a broken ankle. Thanks also to Parks Victoria and SES Ararat Unit for their help. #weworkasone Victoria State Emergency Service

23.01.2022 Today were celebrating the thousands of VICSES volunteers who give up their time and put their lives on the line to create safer and more resilient communities. Thank you for all the work that you do!

20.01.2022 #FlashbackFridays with #VICSES #Ararat Unit. This week we highlight the importance of having a dedicated #volunteer #community service for our rural city area and beyond. Check out this clipping from The Ararat Advertiser from over 30 years ago that goes into detail of what we did at the time and as an indicator for how far weve come today. Were looking towards a more resilient future and encourage everyone to do what they can to prepare for storm, flood, exploring the great outdoors and road safety #SaferCommunitiesTogether

20.01.2022 #FlashbackFridays with #VICSES #Ararat Unit. 25 years ago, we featured in a TAC ad to promote road safety. Check out the clipping from the The Ararat Advertiser on Saturday, March 27th 1993 which also highlights other events of the time as well as the colour photos from the shoot. To this day we encourage drivers to take care when travelling from A to B no matter the distance, whether its by themselves or as a group :) #SaferCommunitiesTogether

19.01.2022 Happy WOW Day! From the Mid West Region Staff, THANK YOU to our amazing dedicated volunteers throughout not only Victoria, but also our members within the Mid ...West! Without the love, compassion and time given from our amazing volunteers and the support from their loved ones when the pager goes off throughout the night or at family events, SES would just not exist. 18.01.2022 On behalf of the members of the Ararat SES Unit, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to Life Saving Victoria, Port Campbell SES and the families of the two members who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty this morning. Our thoughts are also with the family of the third member that was injured. As rescuers the hours spent training & exercising prepare us for the danger & for the risk but... NOTHING prepares us for the loss of our own particularly those wh...o volunteer. This is not only a loss that will be felt within our service, but the community as well. Gavin Kelly Controller

17.01.2022 Ararats annual Christmas Carols event drew the crowds: "Ararat SES member Lucas Kussowski said the family atmosphere was a great opportunity to engage with residents. We participate in the carols every year and its a way to reaffirm our position in the community, and show them what we have, he said.... The SES had a very important role throughout the evening, one which Mr Kussowski said they were absolutely excited to perform. They drove Santa Claus in at 8.45pm and helped him distribute lollies to excited children." Thanks to The Ararat Advertiser for the great coverage on the night :)

16.01.2022 With the recent storm/flash flooding event in Ararat. The unit had received 15 Request for assistance within the space of three hours. Our members had done a great job on providing assistance to the community. Thanks to their Employers on releasing our members during this time. Also, thanks to the Stawell SES on providing us with a crew. Just a reminder to ensure that Gutters, Downpipes and Drains are clean as part of house maintenance routines to avoid damage during storms.

16.01.2022 #FlashbackFridays with #VICSES #Ararat Unit. This week were inspired by SES Nillumbik Units post showing their rescue truck de-constructed in a matter of speaking. 45 years ago we were known for doing a lot more with one of the first rescue vehicles in state. The truck was yellow, and doesnt have the orange tartan that were known as and recognised today :) #SaferCommunitiesTogether

15.01.2022 Due to COVID-19 and physical distancing restrictions, ANZAC day will look a little different this year. There will still be a Dawn Service, wreaths laid, the last post played and a minute of silence for the fallen, but the public will be asked to stay at home.

14.01.2022 In recognition of the fallen Victoria Police members last week, We had decided in joining Ararat Fire Brigade in the initiative to sound sirens at 5:40pm this afternoon in their memory. Whilst the CFA recognition is largely around fire alarms on brigade towers, some brigades may also be utilising a vehicle siren. As such, we are participating utilising a vehicle siren in four cycles.... Do not be alarmed when you hear the sirens.

13.01.2022 Whilst youre at home at present, take the opportunity to learn more about your local risk environment and how to prepare 1. Understand the local flood history in your suburb or township. There are a number of Local Flood Guides for at-risk townships across the State on the VICSES website at ses.vic.gov.au/get-ready/your-local-flood-information where you can get to know your local risk profile, potential impact areas and how a flood might behave in your local area.... 2. Take note to never drive on flooded roads. We know the number one cause of death during flooding is people attempting to drive through floodwater. It can take just 15 cm of water to float a small car. Thats the height of an average pen. Stay safe by never entering floodwater.

10.01.2022 #FlashbackFridays with #VICSES #Ararat Unit. This weekend 23 years ago, we did Dial-a-Santa for the first time as a way to raise money for operations, equipment and more. Check out the clipping from the The Ararat Advertiser on Saturday, November 25th 1995 which also highlights other events of the time. Nowadays we use these special helmets which are currently the only way were collecting donations. Keep a look out for them and appreciate the support #SaferCommunitiesTogether

09.01.2022 On Good Friday (yesterday) we had responded for 4 motor vehicle collision within the space of 8 hours, whilst providing support with the Ararat Fire Brigade Royal Childrens Hospital Good Friday Appeal. We would like to thank our members especially their families, for letting our members provide a service to the community on such a trying day #savealife #drivesafe

07.01.2022 "As many of our VICSES members appreciate, all too often we see the tragic loss of life on our roads. We are deeply saddened at the heartbreaking loss of four Victoria Police road safety partners in the line of duty. Our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of those affected, those who responded & their colleagues at this time." -VICSES Chief Officer Operations

06.01.2022 Check out your local #VICSES unit in action with a tree job in the northern surrounding area last Friday morning. We used a chainsaw and moved the debris away on the sides of the road whilst most people are making their way to work #SaferCommunitiesTogether

06.01.2022 #FlashbackFridays with #VICSES #Ararat Unit continues from last week with these photos of Dial-a-Santa in 1995. We recently visited Jack & Jill Kindergarten and were delighted by the wonderful children with a thirst for knowledge as well as flowers and smiles. One of the best reasons to be safe this holiday season is our children #SaferCommunitiesTogether

05.01.2022 Due to the current Pandemic environment, the Ararat Fire Brigade had Cancelled this event. #WeWorkAsOne #WeArePartOfOurCommunity

05.01.2022 #FlashbackFridays with #VICSES #Ararat Unit. This week we had our annual celebration for another year of training, jobs, community engagement and more. The tradition stands strong just like our members from 20 years ago in 1998, a couple of faces you may still recognise today. During the holiday season, we set aside time to spend with family and friends but business as usual - even Christmas or New Years Day - rain or shine :) #SaferCommunitiesTogether

04.01.2022 Its R U OK?Day, our national day of action and a reminder to Trust the Signs, Trust your Gut & Ask R U OK? any day its needed. 03.01.2022 #FlashbackFridays with #VICSES #Ararat Unit. Check out these clippings from The Ararat Advertiser 45 years ago! For those with keen eyes may have noticed something a bit unusual with the gear we had carried back then. #DidYouKnow that we used to perform Dive/Underwater Rescue? Now a specialised Victoria Police skill set :) #SaferCommunitiesTogether

03.01.2022 #FlashbackFridays with #VICSES #Ararat Unit. This week we are reminded by the good fun over the holidays that is the classic bushwalk through the wilderness. Check out the clipping from The Ararat Advertiser from 35 years ago depicting a search for a group of 4 bushwalkers who were found in the Grampians one Tuesday morning in 1984. Land searches are another part of what we do and encourage those heading into the bush to take the necessary precautions when exploring our beautiful national parks #SaferCommunitiesTogether

02.01.2022 It is with sadness that we share this news from our neighbouring unit, requiescet in pace together we are VICSES

02.01.2022 #FlashbackFridays with #VICSES #Ararat Unit. This week we take the opportunity to honour one of the most famous tools from the road rescue kit - the jaws or spreaders as we call them as well. Check out these awesome clippings from The Ararat Advertiser and a photo of our old truck from over 30 years ago. We encourage those driving these holidays to take care and to drive to the conditions #SaferCommunitiesTogether

02.01.2022 #FlashbackFridays with #VICSES #Ararat Unit. This week we take another opportunity to honour Brian Rickard PSM.
