24.01.2022 Fire Safety Tips for YOUR home!

24.01.2022 How's this for strange?? Whilst areas in the southeast were being shot down by hail, Aratula RFB was out at a grass fire. Thanks to Patricio, Brad and Mark H for turning out. EDIT: Photos from Brad and thanks also to George.

23.01.2022 , , . Your towns have moved further into drought for your drinking water supply, after Moogerah... Dam dropped below 15 per cent capacity. Despite the catchment receiving over 180mm rainfall throughout December and January, it was not enough to boost levels in Moogerah Dam. Your communities rely on this dam for your drinking water supply. Water usage is currently sitting at around 170 litres per person per day and we’re encouraging you to continue to save water wherever you’re able to. Medium restrictions remain in place, so please adhere to these as a minimum. There are currently no changes to the tanker filling station in Boonah and it remains open to all users. Read more about current conditions at www.urbanutilities.com.au/currentconditions

23.01.2022 "Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint." Mark Twain Update time, Peeps. Fire Danger levels are up and down more than a yo-yo at the moment. Currently we're at very high and with heat and wind its going to go higher at times. ... After a bit of the wet stuff it was mowing time again, strange isn't it? The helipads tank has been tidied up and the fire station is more respectable and the weed - always the weeds - got sprayed. Big thank to station legends Trevor, Mark H & Tony who've installed the filler onto the helipads tank recently. It was one of the things we identified last season that we needed to make operations easier. "And now, something completely different." - Monty Python Is any one, or know of, a graffiti artist of good quality?? We had the helipads tank vandalised just before last season and we have a blank canvas (or 2) for some quality art work with a fire theme. Message us for details.

22.01.2022 Fires that do not require a Permit Provided adequate precautions are taken to prevent the spread of fire, the following fires may be lit without a permit except... where such fires are not allowed under a local law for a part or all of a local government area: A fire in which neither the height, width nor length of the material to be consumed exceeds two metres; A fire lit outdoors for the purpose of cooking and warmth, if enclosed in a fireplace so constructed as to prevent the escape of fire or any burning material there from; A fire lit for the purpose of burning the carcass of a beast; A fire lit at a sawmill for the purpose of burning sawdust or other residue resulting from the operation of a sawmill; or A cane fire may also be subject to a notification and may be lit under certain conditions. Please read the Cane Burning Notification to find out about eligibility and burning conditions needed to comply with this notification. If you are uncertain whether the above situations apply to you, and whether you need a permit or not, please contact your local Fire Warden for further clarification. Note: Most local governments provide alternative methods (other than fire) for the disposal of vegetation and waste materials such as refuse collections or disposal of green waste at a council recycling centre. Contact your local government for more information.

18.01.2022 From our great neighbours Puma Aratula (RACQ discount, good food, friendly service, good lookin' staff). Upwards of 117mm this afternoon, guess we'll be checking drains at the station tomorrow. Thankfully no calls for us.

15.01.2022 We've been given a warning for storms developing in Storm Alley in the scenic rim. Time to scoot around and finalize your storm preparations.

14.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast severe thunderstorms across Queensland's south-east interior to the coast today. Damaging winds, heavy rainfall and large... hail are possible. Today's weather details: http://9Soci.al/mgkF30rt45q #9News | Nightly at 6.00pm

14.01.2022 Thanks to QGAir who gave us an overview of helicopter operations. As we assist with many traffic incidents on the highway Brad organised a session with the crews tonight. Thanks to Cam, Bruce and the team for covering what they are looking for from us.

13.01.2022 "Great things can happen when you don't care who gets the credit." - Mark Twain OK, so many have seen the smoke from a fire in the lower Rosevale area in recent days, well today it kicked off and started to spread outside of the initial permitted area. Aratula, along with Kalbar, Tarome, Mt Walker and Mt Forbes, all got called to assist Rosevale at around 4.15pm.... The fire was contained and managed and as of 11pm tonight there are still crews on scene. It appears that containment is going to be successful but with the predicted forecasts things are going to be obviously dodgy. With such a great team effort this afternoon and evenings efforts were a breeze - remember we did all this 12 months ago!! Many thanks to our colleagues at Firecom South East who were working hard at the time, and thanks also the Salvation Army who cooked dinner for us all tonight. Photos below are a point and shoot of how things were progressing. As can be seen many many men & women jumped and responded when needed. Do you want to be a part of the team? Yes it is hard work at times but the satisfaction of helping the community is great. EDIT: Crew responding today were Paul, Lyn & Brad on Aratula 52 and Mark, Patricio and James on Aratula 51. Thanks Peeps. EDIT 2: We had our new radio holsters in use today for the first time. Thanks Janine from www.kirribeecustomcovers.com.au, they worked a treat and everyone had one on.

06.01.2022 Don't want to damage the duco when these are around. Pics by Brad.

06.01.2022 Pam & Paul at Greenbank with the new tablet training. Got great new tools to use.

06.01.2022 FIRE BAN SER midnight tonight until midnight Wed all Local Government Areas.

06.01.2022 "I don't know why we can't afford professional models, but we got this goose" We have a stack of new radio holsters from locally owned and based company Kirribee Custom Covers. These allow us to have a radio, note pad, snacks etc all attached to us, away from hips (stopping things getting caught) whilst we're doing our thing.... Janine and Andrew are in the process of signing up as members. These are going to make our operations so good. If you're in the need for some covers, horsie stuff etc check out https://www.kirribeecustomcovers.com.au/

05.01.2022 After last summer's devastating bushfires, emergency services were inundated with enquiries from members of the public eager to find out how they could help. N...SW Rural Fire Service Inspector Ben Shepherd says volunteering with the RFS is not just for people who live in rural areas. City people can play a part too, and there are jobs that suit all skillsets, from aviation to communication, social media and IT. You don't have to be in the field to help. To find out how you can make a difference, contact your state or territory's SES or rural fire service. Find the list here: https://ab.co/2IMUFwE
