01.01.2022 In the age of Covid-19, many of our freedoms and luxuries have been taken away from the community. The freedom of seeing family and friends, the luxury to go out for lunch or dinner are not available to the community as they once were. With the newly announced 4 Phase easing of restrictions, Real Estate has been deemed non-essential till the 26th of October. This means individuals or families who have sold their homes and are yet to purchase another can no longer inspect a pr...operty. The same goes to those who wish to rent a property, ALL transactions in regards to Real Estate are deemed NON-ESSENTIAL. These restrictions fundamentally undermine our right to shelter, with new and extended regulations in regards to the rental industry those who rent a property are protected and have the luxury of knowing that they will be sleeping with a roof over their heads, yet those who wish to purchase a house because they’ve sold theirs or lease a property because the Landlords are moving back in are not entitled to the same right and luxury of having a roof over their heads. We ask that the Government reconsider this ridiculous decision but facilitate an open channel of communication between the Government and the Real Estate Industry, with strict Covid practices, the Real Estate Industry has been one of few to not contract or spread this virus. Instead of implementing a ‘Safe Covid Plan’ the Government has decided that your right for shelter isn’t essential. This isn’t a post to create a debate about the virus but a post to raise awareness that individuals and families face the threat of not having a roof over their heads.
