13.01.2022 TOUGH NEW RESTRICTIONS ON MOTORBIKE LEARNERS The minimum age to get a learner’s permit to ride a motorbike has jumped to 18 as part of strict new laws to better... prepare novice riders. Curfews and restrictions on passengers will also apply. R-Date riders (Provisional Licence) must also have a zero blood alcohol level regardless of any other licence they may hold. What do you think of the changes? LEARNERS: -Minimum age for learner’s permit increased to 18 -Exemptions apply to 16-17-year-olds in regional SA -No passengers or towing -No riding between midnight and 5am (exemptions apply) -Must hold learner’s permit for 12 months R-DATE (Provisional Licence): -Minimum age increased to 19 -Must hold R-Date licence -Ban on alcohol consumption regardless of any other licences they may hold.
