25.01.2022 Connection to Country is a key design driver for this new commercial building, occupied by the NSW Ministry of Health and other NSW health agencies. Adjacent to Royal North Shore Hospital, the site was once inhabited by the Cammeraygal people of the Guringai clan, known for their strong connections to the land, and their use of key landscape elements such as water, fire and vegetation as part of the healing process. Arcadia’s design approach is to subtly communicate the histo...ry of the site so that occupants have the opportunity to reflect while using the space. To show the importance of yarning and congregating in Indigenous culture, Arcadia designed a series of spaces which can be used as meeting rooms, lunch nooks or places of respite for the public. An Indigenous planting strategy recognises the original plant community on the land as well as acknowledging the larger plant communities that flank the site. Materials throughout the site will continue the narrative. Connection to Country is woven through the public art in the space, through collaboration with an Indigenous artist corporation. 21.01.2022 The Canopy at Lane Cove was completed in 2020. Using Arcadia’s reference design as the basis, documented and developed by Scott Carver, the Lane Cove Council has delivered a much-needed public space that has expanded the capacity of the Lane Cove Town Centre for community amenity. Arcadia has been involved in this process since 2014 when the Lane Cove Council identified the Rosenthal Avenue Car Park site as a potential public space and sought to work with the community to cre...ate a place that would meet their needs. Arcadia’s concept for The Canopy offers a unique urban experience for the evolving community of Lane Cove, whilst embracing the village atmosphere and natural landscape characteristics the suburb prides itself on. With its combination of laneway and retail experience, community amenity and large-scale nature and water play, people are attracted to the many elements of this much-needed public space. We are thrilled to share these photos with you it is so rewarding to see the space being enjoyed by the Lane Cove community in the way we originally envisaged. Photography by @paulmcmillanphoto

21.01.2022 Arcadia is delighted to have been part of the AL_A and Architectus team, one of only six teams short-listed in the international design competition for the relocation of the MAAS Powerhouse Precinct. Gross Max (UK) and Arcadia collaborated to develop a landscape approach for the proposal. The collective scheme put public spaces first, making the riverbank a place of convening, allowing the city to flow below the buildings and up into the museum. The Jury considered the desig...n proposal to be a positive response to the landscape with exceptional connectivity to the water. The scheme presented clear potential to reinvent the river experience, naturalising the riverbank and linking the city and river to make a new civic connection from Parramatta Station to the water." More detail for the scheme, and comments from the jury can be found here: https://maas.museum/new-/al_a-uk-and-architectus-australia/ Thanks for the opportunity to collaborate on this exciting proposal: @amandalevetearchitects @architectusau @gross.max_ @balarinji @yerrabingin @arupgroup @museum_of_applied_arts_science @cityofparramatta NSWDPIE iNSW

19.01.2022 It’s been more than five years since Kiaora Lane opened to the public in Double Bay. Originally designed as a shared way, the laneway was quickly closed to traffic due to the high level of activation of pedestrians to this new public space. We love checking in on our projects to ensure they grow better with time. It’s very rewarding to see how popular Kiaora Lane is with locals as a pedestrian link and place to meet. The artwork by Bondi sculptor, Jade Oakley, is such a great ...feature in this space! 17.01.2022 We are so excited to share these images of Inglis Park and playground, which recently opened to the public at Cbus Property's @newmarketrandwick. Designed by Arcadia Landscape Architecture, Inglis Park nurtures and celebrates the long and rich cultural heritage of the site with its ties to the Australian horse-racing industry and the history of Randwick. The original sales ring sits under a 130-year-old Moreton Bay fig tree, witness to every horse ever sold on the Newmarket s...ite. The Arcadia team saw the potential to use the ‘bones’ of the sales ring, using the framework to create a suspended climbing and play structure, with a giant double-helix slide as the focal point, in recognition of the connection to the nearby Prince of Wales Hospital. Featuring an extensive lawn, BBQ dining facilities, including a children’s picnic party zone, polished concrete tabletops, timber benches and a pergola, Inglis Park links seamlessly with and expands the adjacent food and beverage offering of the @newmarketdining precinct. 03.01.2022 Arcadia is excited to see that The Canopy at Lane Cove is open! We would like to pass on a huge congratulations to the Lane Cove Council for the delivery of this visionary, town centre-shaping project. Arcadia’s vision for Lane Cove’s new town centre won the design competition run by Lane Cove Council in 2015. We are proud to see how our concept design has provided the basis for this new community asset, including the park and adventure playground that is now open to the public. We would also like to acknowledge Scott Carver for their contribution in the delivery this project. As landscape architects and urban designers, one of our biggest rewards is watching the community come together and enjoy a space in the way it was envisioned. Drop in and check it out

01.01.2022 Arcadia’s design for the Therry Courtyard at St Ignatius has been entered in the health and education landscape category for this year’s NSW AILA Awards. When Arcadia was engaged by St Ignatius to create an outdoor space to complement the new Therry Building, designed by PMDL Architects, the team immediately saw the potential to create a place that challenged the parameters of what constitutes a traditional learning space within a school campus. Arcadia’s design approach and ...vision has delivered an area that has been embraced by all for innovative learning activities and a more playful way to circulate around the school. Accessible and inviting spaces provide a home-base for boys, enabling students to come together as part of the overall community, or for a place where they retreat, reflect or socialise. By creating a variety of quality open spaces, the landscape has allowed the school to extend the teaching and learning opportunities, with active and passive recreation spaces increasing from 14 to 24 learning areas. The layout of the landscape infrastructure creates engaging spaces that are optimally sized for collaborative learning. The modular nature allows adaptability as teaching and learning styles evolve.
